But I have no doubt that the Christian nutbag freaks who hijacked the GOP would love to see that kind of America. Read Pat Robertson's comments on 9/11 - they sound remarkably like bin Laden's. Gephardt69 0 Posted June 1, 2006 I find it rather interesting that the weighted average is like 51% but if you asked people what they thought of "the senate" it would probably be even lower then santorum's rating. also that maine has two republicans and that north dakota has two democrats... weird. Pat Robertson claims that 9/11 was God's way of punishing us for our tolerance of gays, feminism, multiculturalism, etc. Unfortunately, he speaks for a significant number of people on the fringe social right and they have some political clout with the GOP. Read Pat Robertson's comments on 9/11 - they sound remarkably like bin Laden's. You do realize that not many Christians are on the Pat Robertson bandwagon, correct? Just because the guy's on t.v. doesn't mean he has that big of an audience. Again, Pat Robertson represents a VERY small piece of Christians in this country. Too small to hijack anything. If Pat Robertson has no clout with the GOP, then why has Bush met with him on several occassions? ETA: Sorry, those comments about multiculturalism, gays, feminism, etc. being responsible for 9/11 were actually from Jerry Falwell appearing on Robertson's program. parrot 789 Posted June 1, 2006 The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way—all of them who have tried to secularize America—I point the finger in their face and say "you helped this happen." That's Jerry Falwell commenting on 9/11. Maybe you caught him shaking hands with John McCain - the commencement speaker at his university - the other day. MDC 5,877 Posted June 1, 2006 I didn't know that he had......I know lots of different Christians with varied faiths and I can tell you that none of them cares much about what Pat Robertson says or doesn't say........ Same with me, but Robertson has an estimated 1 million viewers and I'm guessing these people are wealthier than average and politically active. I also sort of lump Robertson in with Falwell and other prominent televangelists - they're all kind of the same thing IMO and I'm sure there's significant overlap in their audiences. Anyway, yes Robertson has met with Rove and Bush on a few occassions. He met with Bush right before the Iraq war to supposedly talk about the invasion, and I'm sure they've met since. It may not be a big demographic but Robertson does speak for a group of people who have some clout.

Multiculturalism? He (Falwell) thinks we should have just one culture in the country? What possible biblical basis could he have for that, I wonder? Not that it matters, since they guy is a nutjob anyway. I just thought that was odd inclusion.

phillybear 364 Posted June 1, 2006 I hope so but it'll be tough, since he has a ton of PAC money and the American Taliban backing him. I am considering voting for Santorum out of spite. The local media is running a non stop smear campaign against him. The Daily News is so blatant, it makes me want to vomit. Besides, the difference between Casey and Santorum is negligable. I mean, at least pretend to have some semblance of balance. Ugh. Outside of that, I am probably going to vote against every incumbent. Locally, the one party system is finally deservedly crumbling under arrests, indictments and jail time. I hope the feds arrest our tool of a mayor soon. The Daily News is so blatant, it makes me want to vomit. Besides, the difference between Casey and Santorum is negligable. I mean, at least pretend to have some semblance of balance. Ugh. I can't claim to know a whole lot about Bob Casey and suspect he's deliberately laying low, hoping that Santorum's miserable reputation will be enough to get by. But a few differences between the two of them: Santorum is in bed with K Street and all of the slimiest elements of Washington. If only because he hasn't been in Congress, Casey isn't a part of that culture. Casey is pro-life, but Santorum is a religious weirdo - anyone who responds to a question about gay marriage with a diatribe about sex with dogs and made his family sleep in the same bed with his wife's miscarriage (!) is not the kind of stable mind I want representing my state. And finally ... unlike Santorum, Bob Casey actually lives in the state he wants to represent. Santorum lives in Virginia. For the record, I'm a big fan of Arlen Specter ® so this isn't about the GOP. I just think Santorum represents everything that's bad about Congress right now, and he's done such a poor job of representing PA that it's time to vote him out. MDC 5,877 Posted June 1, 2006 The world according to MDC. Didn't you start this same thread....well, every day for the last 3 years? Or do they all just look the same. They only look the same when you're wearing your knee-jerk GOP blinders. My original post was a list to the rankings. The only Congressman I singled out for criticism is Rick Santorum. Since he represents PA and his in-state approval rating is 36%, I don't see what's so partisan about that. Get a grip Sally.

I was surprised to see that McCain's approval rating wasn't higher. Same with Arlen Specter - they're two of my favorites. I'm also sort of a fan (in that I've liked what I've read of her) of Olympia Snowe, but I was surprised that she was ranked so high.
