Super Cubs 154 Posted June 4, 2006 Let me start by stating the facts that Antowain Smith is 34 which is a little old for a NFL RB. And has not been overly productive since '01 in New England. But seems to be in a good spot with the Texans backing up DD. Davis "the injury-prone back" when healthy is a great well rounded back in all areas but short yardage. Being a loyal Texans fans this a concer I've had for a while. In the 2nd round of the draft I thought they made a good pick but was hoping for White to help fill this hole. I think Smith could be a good fit to help move the chains. Which may lead to him getting a few goal line carries. Not wishing an injury on Davis but he has had a problem with staying healthy. And if I were a #2 RB I would hope that I was on the Texans because I think there is a pretty good chance I might get to start a few games. Then there is Kubiak who has been with the two headed monster in Denver which might lead to rbbc in Houston to help keep Dom healthy. I agree Smith could be a nice injury sub, but I think the real sleeper at RB will be rookie, Wali Lundy out of Virginia. He's a big enough back to run with power, has good hands, and has quick feet for his size. He's not Fred Taylor in terms of size-speed-quickness ratio, but if he gets a shot to play...I'd say an Olandis Gary-Terrell Davis type...a good downhill runner that's excellent around the goal line. I'm interested in following his progress in training camp. IMO, Lundy was a great pick for the Texans as he's got some talent and has a real nose for the endzone. I think he could end up being a solid RB in the NFL (either as a good backup or a spot-starter) and something of a steal for the Texans, considering where they drafted him. Between Morency, Lundy, and Antowain, I think it will be tough to tell who the primary backup in Houston will be...at least this early on... Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
