Culpepper looking good in first public workout

Recommended Posts

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) - Daunte Culpepper did what everyone wanted to see.

The new Dolphins quarterback, in his first public workout since joining the Miami Dolphins, dropped back during a morning minicamp session Friday and saw no one open.

So he took off running - looking every bit like his former self.

Culpepper, who had surgery in November to repair three torn ligaments in his right knee, sprinted down the field during a non-contact drill against players not wearing pads. He also ran back to the huddle and showed no signs of being limited at all despite wearing a knee brace.

--Last season, I built 2 (big money-league) teams around DAUNTE CULPEPPER.

I came in 3rd place in one league, and 2nd in the other.... not bad, but no Championships to brag about either. Anyway, needless-to-say I've been ridiculed all year long for taking CULPEPPER so early. These guys are constantly busting-my-B*/lls about it. Nothing, "AND I MEAN NOTHING" would make me happier than selecting CULPEPPER in like the 7th round and watching him flourish !!!

-- I hope this guy makes it all-the-way back and rubs everybodies nose in it !!!!

I think this is more significant news than anyone is apparently realizing.....

Daunte Culpepper has been the #1 fantasy QB on four different occasions. If he can get back to full health by August (and that's still an 'if'), he should start flying up draft boards.

He'll be flying up mine, that's for sure............

Fumbleweed, I agree if he truly does the same stuff on the field as he did in practice. I think we can all agree there's a major difference between doing this stuff in a controlled environment and the chaos of a game. I just don't believe it until I see him do somethign ridiculous on that knee while trying to evade a pass rusher or LB in the open field.

It's good news, but I'm not ready to vault him up draft boards. For leagues with a early drafts, he's a huge gamble. I'm rooting for him, but I'm not ready to invest that high a pick in him.

I took him in a recent early draft. In the 5th round pick 4. I knew he would be ready close to the start of the season. Daunte has something to prove. he will be back and have a great year.

Understood, but the pendulum has swung too far recently in the other direction and he is criticized far more than lauded. People have very short memories. Culpepper (albeit with Moss like many will point out) has been the #1 FF QB FOUR TIMES!!

I'm not vaulting him up my draft board yet, either. But, you can bet I'm going to be keeping my eye on his progress all summer long. The reward could still be great.

wildman/fumble,

do you think/feel culpepper is getting less press and publicity than palmer, as far as fantasy circles go? his (culp) injury occurred early on, while palmer's was higher profile (nationally televised playoff game) and more recent. looking at this board, i find myself reading a lot of threads/headlines concerned with the 'cincinnati johnson boys' and their future stats being influenced by palmer's health status.

not nearly as much love for 2 players who may be equally talented and capable of posting similar if not better stats---chris chambers and ronnie brown.

perhaps the SI front cover had something to do with it? or, as was mentioned, once owners saw the debacle that was culpepper in the 'post-moss era', they have erased him from their top3-qb lists? i'm not sure, but i concur that a player with top3 overall potential should be watched closely---he may become the ultimate steal of the upcoming drafts.
