ALsportsnut 0 Posted July 10, 2006 I am in a 5man keeper league with 19 other guys. I have the 2nd overall draft pick. As of now, I am protecting Culpepper, Portis, Holt, TO. There are 100 players protected before the draft, so quality QBs and RBs are hard to come by. I have Brad Johnson, Troy Williamson, and Samkon Gado as my remaining players worth protecting. Which one would you protect as my fifth player, and what would you do with your 1st draft pick? I was thinking about Brad Johnson, just in case Culpepper doen't make it back in time for the start of the season. And drafting Bush, Addai, or other quality rookie RBs with my first pick. But my fear is that Troy Williamson will have a breakout year. Thanks, Mark

remote controller 143 Posted July 10, 2006 Williamson might not "break out", so to say this season, but I truly don't see the other two as options for keeper status. Surely not Johnson, and you stand to recoup some of that through Williamson, Fantasy production wise. Gado is mired in ????'s. He did well last year, but is having hell with the new offensive scheme, and Green and Davenport cloud the water too much. This is a very easy choice in my mind! ALsportsnut 0 Posted July 10, 2006 My team that I have to cut down to 5 by the weekend. *Culpepper, Daunte QB MIA Johnson, Brad QB MIN *Portis, Clinton RB WAS *Holt, Torry WR STL *Owens, Terrell WR DAL Williamson, Troy WR MIN Rodgers, Aaron QB GB Gado, Samkon RB GB Morency, Vernand RB HOU Bradford, Corey WR DET Hilliard, Ike WR TB Jones, Jamal WR NO Jones, Mark WR TB Robinson, Marcus WR MIN Wilson, Cedrick WR PIT Lee, Donald TE GB Smith, Alex TE TB Reed, Jeff K PIT Browns, DST DST CLE I have 4 Texas Longhorn fans that are doing everything they can to trade for the 1st pick to get Vince Young. So, I am pretty sure Reggie Bush will be there for the 2nd pick.
Belushi 9 Posted July 10, 2006 I'd keep Williamson out of that bunch. Surely you can get a better QB than Johnson in the draft? Johnson's barely backup-worthy.
Savior57 0 Posted July 10, 2006 Add Williamson or Gado to your keepers and GET BUSH !! Williamson is the better player but backs will be totally depleated, so I think that's a close call. Honestly, I think you'll NEED BUSH to be competitive
ALsportsnut 0 Posted July 11, 2006 Add Williamson or Gado to your keepers and GET BUSH !! Williamson is the better player but backs will be totally depleated, so I think that's a close call. Honestly, I think you'll NEED BUSH to be competitive As far as being competitive, with 20 teams in the league and teams protecting 5, everyone has a watered down line-up. I won the championship 2 yrs ago. Lost last year, because Culpepper got hurt. I am planning on picking Bush, but I am not sure he will have the best season this yr out of the rookie rbs. But, I like him as a keeper player better than anyone else. I will probably take Williamson, and use my first 2 picks on RBs. Then maybe a TE and eventually get Joey Harrington, or any QB out there that may start. I had Rudi Johson last yr and traded for TO. Maybe a bad move, but I was out of playoff chances and knew I had a chance to get Bush. Another reason for trading Rudi, is the fact that I am a Tide fan and it's a sin to have an Auburn player on my roster. Thanks everyone for your help. If you have comments on how I should use my picks feel free to help. Start 1-QB, 2-RB, 3-WR, 1-TE, 1-K, 1-DEF Thanks....
Force of Two 0 Posted July 11, 2006 Keep Gado and hope that he wins the job over the handicapped crew in Green Bay....and then take Bush...maybe the combo with some other picks will help you get competitive quicker in the league....if for some reason in round 2 you can take another rookie RB...then do it.... ALsportsnut 0 Posted July 11, 2006 Let's say Bush is off the board. Who should I take with my first pick (2nd overall)?
OriginalMonkeyBoy 0 Posted July 11, 2006 Let's say Bush is off the board. Who should I take with my first pick (2nd overall)? First: I'd keep Gado. Just because you seem good to go with WR (Holt, Owens) and as was stated earlier, RB's will be few and far between with 100 guys off the board before you even draft. Second: Who knows. It's hard to tell who will be out there at no.2. Most likely a bunch of Rookies. You could try Young, maybe trade him to one of the Texas guys (if they have someone you want)..It's tough enough when there is a 10 team, 2 player keeper...but a 20 team-5 player keeper...My brain is too full... ETA: Please see mine
ALsportsnut 0 Posted July 11, 2006 No kidding. 100 players are gone before we draft. Mostly owners protect 2 RBs, 1 QB, and 2WRs That means: 20 of the top QBs are gone 30-40 of the top RBs are gone 30-40 of the Top WRs are gone 5-10 protect a TE So, basically you are looking for: A 2nd or 3rd year guy that had a tough year the year before, but has potential to have a break-out year. A veteran guy that could get through another season and produce enough to help your protected players The best rookies that have a chance of starting this year, if not this year, defiantely next year and beyond. But, We have about 15 owners or so who come up for the draft from all over the country. Mostly college friends. The weekend is full of activities. Beer drinking and the golf tournament are the most popular events. thanks for all your help. I probably will go with Gado, and go from there.
Bezzerck 0 Posted July 11, 2006 I would take Troy Williamson. Johnson can be later if you want him and I would expect there to be better back up QB's available. Plus Williamson will give you Johnsons points and has a much bigger upside as well as if he does he can has the option of being a keeper for many season to come as oppossed to Johnson who is on his last legs. Gado is in competition for a backup spot with Davenport and possibly Herron. Plus there is news that he is struggling in camp. Hardly what you want to hear for one of five kepers. Green is starting and he is going to have a bounce back season relegating Gado to a change of pace back at best. If bush is unavailable I would take either Addai or Deangelo Williams. Possibly even try to trade down two spots if people are still after Young so that I could land Addai, Williams or Moroney and add an additional pick later in the draft Please see mine http://www.fftodayforums.com/forum/index.p...howtopic=215431
