DrJ 0 Posted August 5, 2006 Haven't been listening to the radio, but according to the Bears message board there are reports on ESPN1000 that Benson was carted off the field. Just now on ESPN1000 (listening via internet, here in Thailand), Silvy & Carmen Show, they reported that Urlacher and Brown ping-ponged Cedric between themm (he was going half-speed, after catching a ball in the flat). Evidently they creamed him and he was carted off for x-rays, seems was holding his wrist or something. This was as seen by their on-field phone-in reporter. It's been confirmed by someone listening to a sox broadcast. Apparantly it's an injury with his shoulder - we'll find out more soon I guess.
harken34 0 Posted August 5, 2006 Must have been bad if they had to cart him off for a wrist or sholder injury.
DrJ 0 Posted August 5, 2006 Left shoulder injury, X-Rays to come. Reports are that he took exception to a hit by Hillenmeyer, and then this.

Feedback 0 Posted August 5, 2006 I've been listing to Chicago Radio and earlier this week they said some of the players were taking some shots at Benson. They said it's because there's alot of Jones backers on this team, do you think this may have anything to do with what happened.

I'm a big believer in don't ruin a good thing, and call me crazy but i think the Bears had a GOOD THING going last year.... Why ruin the Karma? Give T Jones some cash to keep the smile on his face and carry on where you left off last year.... or you can be stingy with your cash, continue to stone him and make him unhappy. Obviously some of the players feel Jones earned it last year if all this turmoil is true with the players.... Hopefully it ruins their season.... Ah if Only Philly would have only restructured Owens contract ah what could of been...
Ditka311 0 Posted August 5, 2006 This is just asinine. Thomas Jones, whose career year was last year (doesn't get any better for him, folks) sits out and pouts and the defense has been taking big shots at Benson for the duration of camp. This was a management decision! Benson is only doing what he has to in the role he has been handed. I don't see why you take it out on him. Maybe if he was mouthing off like McNown did. So even if Jones starts you just knocked out your backup RB for awhile. Brilliant.

DrJ 0 Posted August 5, 2006 The video has showed up on comcast, it isn't at all as described in the original post. The defense didn't hit him that hard or take any cheapshots. Mike Brown is saying that he doesn't expect him to miss much time, and Lovie is saying they're just being cautious and are hoping it isn't serious. Hopefully that's the case... I haven't read anything from any of the sports news websites... anyone confirmed anything? Yup, it happened. Severity is still up in the air though.

What I want to know is: If Jones is so confident that he can beat out Benson, then why doesn't he show it in camp?
swamp dog 0 Posted August 5, 2006 i don't get it. why was lovie letting this guy get creamed day after day in practice? it's been news now for a week that the defense was beating the shiat out of him on almost every play.

Hurricane 0 Posted August 5, 2006 http://chicagobears.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=16412 The hits Benson absorbed were consistent with most during a padded practice and weren't overly aggressive or vicious. The injury occurred on such a seemingly ordinary play that even the two defenders who were involved couldn't explain what transpired. Still waiting on full details but this story doesn't make it sound malicious.

I admit I overreacted but I was ticked off for a minute. As swamp even mentioned, it's no news that the defense has been overly tough on him the entire camp. While I understand that the management pissed off a lot of guys by anointing Benson the starter and disrespected Jones, you have to stick up for your teammates. I can understand if he was mouthing off like McNown was but from what I understand Benson has taken it in stride for the most part (except running over Chris Harris). I don't think Benson was anoited, but in fact what he was drafted to do. Eventually you have to give the ball to the guy you drafted. Kitna had a decent year then Palmer started and he went off. It has been discussed on this board how SA got his start. They are playing football which is being a contact sport people get hurt.Yahoo saw some tough love on earlier this week... Jones was asked if the Bears' financial commitment to Benson might make it difficult for the two competitors to be treated equitably on the playing field, and he said that was possible. "(Money) definitely dictates what happens in this league," Jones said. "That's the business side. A lot of times you can't just play football in this league. It's not just a football league. There's a business side, too. A lot of people don't understand that. I'm just trying to focus on what I have to do, which is being here, playing football and letting everything else happen the way it happens." http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/bears/home.htm Seems like bad things happen to Texas Rbs... swamp dog 0 Posted August 5, 2006 anyone can get hurt at any time on any play. that said... the bears botched this whole thing from day 1. they handed the job to benson without him earning it. they then let the defense essentially "haze" benson. why? um, because he hadn't earned the job. you can argue the particular play was or wasn't malicious/that bad, whatever. but it's going to look bad simply because a lot of people have been questioning the handling of the situation and a lot of press has been generated about benson getting the snot knocked out of him at practice. Ditka311 0 Posted August 5, 2006 I have a lot of respect for Thomas Jones. The dude works hard and has made no trouble off the field. Even in this debacle he hasn't really gone off on management all that much. At the same time I wish he would just let his play do the talking. I understand the Bears haven't treated him with all the respect he deserves for being the offense the past couple of years but they have a business side too and a lot of money invested in Benson. Instead of all the b.s. going on in the papers and sports radio in Chicago, I wish they would just battle it out in camp. I wish they would do the same with Griese and Grossman but they have already handed the starting Qb spot to Rex. The last thing the Bears offense needs is for the few key players to get hurt/hold out. That's why it is so frustrating to me. The offense isn't the greatest as it is. The drama isn't needed. It seems like a reality version of Playmakers.

As an NFC North foe (and Tigers fan nonetheless) you aren't going to see me agree with swamp all that much but this kind of sums up my frustrations. There is nonstop "coverage" of this in the papers, on TV, and on the radio. I listen to sports radio through the computer all day long at my desk...it's gets irritating after awhile. . (it also got irritating when the bears execs focused so much on celebrating the anniversary of the Super Bowl victory...)
DrJ 0 Posted August 5, 2006 Here's a video of the hit: http://www.zippyvideos.com/1319394625739376/benson/ It looks like it could possibly just be a stinger or something. And Cedric Benson is superhuman. I still don't know how he didn't tear his ACL last year, knees don't bend that way. We'll see... He did look comfortable taking that swing pass. swamp dog 0 Posted August 5, 2006 Better than a broken clavicle. Ask Charles "Dimebag" Rogers how that worked out... really? a broken shoulder is better than a broken clavicle? lol...no one's applauding this injury, so let's keep the whose-better-than-whom debate to issues of healthy players on the field playing against each other and out of the doctor's office. Still waiting on full details but this story doesn't make it sound malicious. Sounds more like Benson is a poosay and TJones might be the man after all. He dinged his shoulder on a routine play and was carted off the field? Carted off the field?!? For a shoulder injury? Ladies & gents, yours truly has dislocated his shoulder a whopping 5 times. And let me tell you...having broken bones, sustained a concussion and strained my back severely, NOTHING compares to the feeling of having your arm ripped out of your socket, while your labrum & rotator cuff shred like tissue paper. And the longer it's out the worse it gets, because all of the hyperextended muscles start to twitch and spasm. :::shudder::: - hurts thinking about it. My doctors told me the it's the 2nd most painful thing next to giving birth. Because unlike a broken bone, you don't typically go into shock for the dislocation. That's the single worst shoulder injury I can imagine, about an 8.5 on a pain scale of 10, and *I* was able to get up and walk around. Damn skippy I coulda walked off the field, and the 1st time it happened, I drove myself to the hospital. (after that I knew what to do so I'd instruct a pal to pop it in. gross for everyone involved. Glad I have good friends...) How bad is a shoulder injury that you can't freakin walk off the field? "waaah! get me the cart!"...you POOSAY! Now if y'all will excuse me I have to go adjust my rankings.
