Who to take at 4 now that Portis is hurt

Recommended Posts

I have been planning to grab Portis 4th overall. With his injury history and the shoulder injury tonight, I am very skeptical at taking him now. I am having a tough time finding someone who distinguishes themselves among the next several RB's. I'm leaning towards SJax now. Would you still take Portis or go another way?

OK, if people push someone else above Tiki they are just plain haters (which I know there are a lot of)

Tiki's age scares the begueses out of me. You never no when a RB his age will break down. Too risky for a 1st round pick. Plus, our league is weighted towards TD's and he won't get many.

How did Portis' age treat him tonight?

Injuries can happen to anyone. Palmer and Culpepper are pretty darn young. So was Edge when he blew out his knee.

If Portis is really hurt, I'd go with S. Jackson over Tiki. I'm assuming you're not drafting tonight, and will have time to figure out what the situation is with Portis before your pick. Assuming he seems to be okay, I'd still pick Portis.

If you get a chance, check out my post and throw in your two cents: 14 team league - draft slots

I would still draft Portis over Tiki -- Tiki is 31 years old and who other than C. Martin have you known do great at that age ? That said I would take S. Jackson at 4 now and still take Portis at 5. Unless his tests on MOnday come back grimm . Portis seems ot be able to play with pain so I think he will still be okay.

Though why the fockk would he of tried to hit the guy so hard in the focking preeseason !

I keep hearing this. But what's left out of this "company line" about Tiki that TSN, CBS and all the others keep saying is that there's generally a decline....look at Dillon. Tiki was a stud last year. More 100 yd games than anyone but LJ.

And Tiki was a fumbler...as such he didn't get as many carries. He also split carries with Dayne. Low milage.

For me age ain't nothing but a number...it's the carries that add up. Tiki still has plenty of tread on those tires.

I had a separated shoulder playing ball in college - and I was back in 2 weeks fine......Portis has lot sof time to recover and will be fine for season's start.

Relax people.

If Portis does come back fine in the next 2 weeks, would you draft him at 4. He is close to getting an "injury prone" label.

i generally agree but anyone in a TD weighted league who gets vultured has to be bumped down a notch or two

I have shared my experience. My dislocated shoulder was constant problem for over a year before I got an operation. I am sure it depends on the grade of dislocation

Portis dislocated, not separated his shoulder.

Portis had a shoulder injury late last year and missed a lot of carries in the playoffs cause of it.

Wonder if it is the same shoulder. If it is, you just can't trust it.

yes, heaven forbid a RB miss 4 games in the span of 4 seasons..... thats just too much risk for me!

7000 yards and 69 TDs over 4 yeras = stud

why dont you go apply the IP tag to someone whos is actually a worry

In a PPR I think Jordan is a good choice at #4 should Portis injury scare you off. Personally, I think Tiki will have a fine season but it's tough to argue with statistics regarding age of RB's. Especially in a keeper league I think Jordan or even Jackson are fine choices at #4 (again, depending on the extent of Portis' injury).

According to ADP: Tiki Barber then SJax. (Antsports)

That's the way I see it.

Realistically, when will we know the full extent of his injury? I draft Friday, and I was counting on Portis if I miss the Big 3.

MRI showed Partially separated. But I don't think you will see him play the rest of the preseason.

A partial dislocation is not that bad. fyi... a dislocation is the arm coming out of the socket. a separation is the bone above the shoulder going out of place. Portis has a dislocation.

i have had 3 complete reconstructions of my shoulder b/c of dislocations.... so i am a expert. any time it goes out ligaments are stretched or torn. it was barely out & only out for a short time so odds are the damage was not bad. he will feel 100% fine in 2 weeks. the biggest issues he will have are falling on the arm & catching passes that are not perfectly thrown (behind or high). if major damage was done... he is EF-ed, b/c it will go out all the time.

His injury really didn’t sound that bad… rest & rehab & he should be fine for the season.

I agree - as long as he has no soft tissue damage, he should be good to go in 2-3 weeks.

The question is why did it pop - the labrum or rotator cuff may have been strained or torn (or partially torn) - these are the worst case scenarios.

That said, even in worst case, Portis would still rehab for 2-3 weeks and play with a harness...it would just be a greater risk of recurrance.

Something had to give, shoulders just don't come out and go back without damaging the parts that keep the shoulder in socket. It all depends on probably how far it went out.

everyone knows that you take reggie bush at #4 now.....

:argue:

Unless Portis for some reason is going to miss multiple games in the regular season no way you drop him beyond 4 in my opinion. Reggie Bush would probably agree.

There was a 12 team draft in the Big Easy this evening.

Word is that Reggie Bush took Portis at 1.04.

Just saying...
