RB Situations Across The League

Recommended Posts

If you are like me, you have your draft coming up soon. I think most of us realize that the RB situation is very shaky this year, especially in the middle rounds. I figure I will post all the teams, the top 2-4 RBs (based on NFL.com depth charts), and we can go through and list info. on them. Just basic info will work (every down back, 3rd down back, injured, injury prone, rbbc, goal line back, etc.) Please don't base your ideas on one preseason game or a hunch, but pure proven facts (or as close as you can get). Let's see how this works, will help me a bunch next weekend. Help me out please! If I am wrong, correct me!

Dallas Cowboys:

Julius Jones -

Marion Barber III -

Tyson Thompson -

MB3 will most certainly spell / steal carries from JJ all season, how much is yet to be determined, but Parcells has made it evident that MB3 will get a fair share of work this season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers:

Cadillac Williams -

Michael Pittman -

Caddy comes out on 3rd downs for Pittman. Pittman also comes in for most pass plays or plays that involve a screen.

Alstott comes in for short yardage / goalline opportunities.

Gruden can and will use all 3 backs dependant on the situation and to keep all 3 fresh. He has quite the history of using multiple backs, even though 1 will be the "centerpiece" just expect to lose a few TD's to Alstott and a few random screens/draws to Pittman.

I don't think Lundy's the #4 in Houston anymore. He's run effectively with the starters and clearly has picked up that offense. If DD can't go in week 1, my bet is he'll be the starter.

I don't see Dillon getting 90% of the carries in NE. Dillon is a 2 down back, with Faulk taking over on 3rd; also, Maroney will get significant opportunities. I look for the split to be 70% Dillon or less.

Random RB Thoughts

Portis may now be had for a bargain. I am not convinced he is going to miss much time.

Jacobs getting more looks this year than last year. Should not matter too much if Giants are still productive.

Westbrook is still centerpiece and star of the PPR leagues.

I am nervous about Anyone wearing Silver and Black especially as a first round pick.

Mike Bell likely won the starting job on Saturday. But one fumble is the first two weeks, and he may be benched ala Quentin Griffin

Gotta think that someday Maurice Morris is going to get his shot. Alexander can not keep taking this abuse can he?

Agree that there are too many RBs in Tampa, stay away here.

McAllister may be a steal as a late RB in the 5th. Wan't the knock on Bush was that he would not be able to take the load as an everyday back? And speaking of Bush I would not consider him at all unless it is a PPR.

Dallas will be RBBC stay away from JJ

Agree

I think a LOT more. GL of course, but more regular carries. Tiki's workload worries me.

Westbrook is still centerpiece and star of the PPR leagues.

Dont forget Jordan here

I am nervous about Anyone wearing Silver and Black especially as a first round pick.

See above

Saint happening. It's beginning to look this guy was targetted as at least a fallback before the draft. We all know how Shanny likes to be the genius. Think he wont ride this guy if he can?

Gotta think that someday Maurice Morris is going to get his shot. Alexander can not keep taking this abuse can he?

Not til SA breaks, but see Tiki comment

Offense on the upswing. CW is a late 1st early 2nd

McAllister may be a steal as a late RB in the 5th. Wan't the knock on Bush was that he would not be able to take the load as an everyday back? And speaking of Bush I would not consider him at all unless it is a PPR.

This is a lingering injury. The straight ahead power will be there, but the cuts are a problem. He'll come out on 3rd down. Duece may be a GL vulture though.

Dallas will be RBBC stay away from JJ

This would not fit Tuna's pattern. Look for a decision. If JJ gets dinged, Barber comes in. One or the other will get the carries, and the other will sit.

In Green Bay, A. Green is still injured, so Davenport was working with the first string last night. However, Davenport has been in GB for years and has never really stepped up. Don't count on him for anything fantasy-wise. IF Green can get healthy, he should get most of the carries once the season starts, but this is looking more and more like a rbbc situation.

Also, Kevin Jones has done poorly in preaseason games (7 yds on 6 carries yesterday). I think Calhoun or someone else will take his job soon (maybe by week 4-5).

By the way, did anyone see E. James yesterday? He looked pretty lost in the few clips I saw (a pass bounced off his head!!). He'd not available in my keeper league anyway, but I just thought I'd mention it.

Kevin Jones - Should see most of the carries should have a ? at the end. Calhoun should be added to the Detroit list.

Davenport's percentage should be higher than 15% this year.

How come Jerious Norwood isn't listed at all for Altanta considering how well he's played in the preseason?

How will Mike Bell get 85% of the carries if Tinker is getting 10 a game?? unless Denver is going to run it like 65 times a game.....

I dont buy the mike bell crap.....at very best he will share the carries with Tatum....85% is like and LT load....I dont think a rookie will get that....

You should just put a ? for Denver because no one knows.....every season no one knows

And not to be a douche but you said at the top all fact or close.....arnt all of these %s your own opinion/projection?

As long as Duckett is still in Atlanta, he and Dunn will get the majority of touches - 60/30 - Dunn/Duckett, with Griffith and Norwood sharing the other 10%. Sure, Norwood does have a WOW factor, but he has shown some rookie moments as well.

It sounds like they will groom Norwood to eventually take over for Dunn, but not this year. Norwood should still be listed, as either a trade of Duckett or an injury to Dunn would undoubtedly make him more valuable.

Remember to always take what happens in the preseason with a grain of salt. It's mainly for the coaches to see who amongst the rookies and other guys on the fence will make the team. Once the regular season starts the veterans more or less will take their rightful spots in the lineup if healthy, and the Falcons have two solid RBs who can both handle the load.

First of all, thanks for taking the time to make this post, but you are a little off on a lot of team's RB's. I will only go into the Browns situation right now because I am lazy.

Well, Lee Suggs is probably out in Cleveland, but I don't think it matters. Jerome Harrison is your #2 back. The rookie has shined in camp and on the field. He will be the 3rd down back and will get more carries than everyone but Droughns.

Yeah, I should have stated that I would not know the full info. on most other teams RB situations either. I am from Ohio and a Browns fan, so that would be my input. Again, thanks for the post. It is a good one and valuable to us all.

Cleveland Browns:

Reuben Droughns - 80% of the carries

Jerome Harrison - likely the #2 by start of season???

William Green - 10% of the carries

Lee Suggs - out by start of season???

Now that the suggs to the jets got shut down expect suggs to stay on the team, Green will be ST only or cut by reg season. This is the way I see it. Harrison will be the next eric metcalf, I just hope he doesnt go up the middle.

Disagree that Deuce McAllister gets 80% of carries

Reggie Bush will be on the field an equal amount of time as Deuce. 8-12 carries and 3-5 passes, maybe more with Brees

the seahawks are looking for one of their backups to step in on some 3rd downs, either maurice morris or this giant (6'2" 240 or something) named weaver. i wouldn't expect it to affect alexander that much.

I wouldn't be completely surprised if either Suggs or Green got cut. Suggs looked good running last weekend, but whatever was wrong with his knee that caused him to fail the Jets physical has to be a concern for his long term availability. My guess is Harrisson will be the 3rd down back, with Droughns getting most of the carries, while getting spelled occasionally (or if injured) by Suggs or Green. I'll be surprised if Droughns ends up with much more than 70%, but he'll be the featured back and should still have a solid year.

Chicago Bears:

Cedric Benson - injury? should see 70% of the carries

Thomas Jones - 20% of the carries

Adrian Peterson - 10% of the carries

I could be wrong, but my guess is that Jones will again be the main guy in Chicago barring injury. This is just my impression from following the news and listening to The Score in Chicago. Benson has done nothing yet to lay claim to the number-one RB spot except show up at an optional mini-camp, and it sounds as if the Bears players are behind Jones. Based on what he did last season, I think Lovey is going to go with TJ as his starter. If I had to guess, I'd guess TJ = 60%, Jones = 30%, Peterson = 10%. For what it's worth.

Bump.

How about some updates to this thing?

CHI Thomas Jones RB - Should get most the carries this season, after the news about Benson, his ADp is climbing quickly.

ATL Warrick Dunn RB - Main man in ATL now, should see most the carries, another back's value that has been skyrocketing.

Texans | Team to use a committee at running back

Fri, 25 Aug 2006 17:54:14 -0700

HoustonTexans.com reports Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said the team will use a rotation of RB Wali Lundy and RB Vernand Morency. RB Antowain Smith or RB Chris Taylor will get work in the fourth quarter Sunday, Aug. 27. Kubiak said, "But (RB) Wali (Lundy) and (RB Vernand) Morency will play the game rotating as if we were playing opening day."
