White Bus Driver Suspended For Assigning Black Students To Back Of Bus

Yvonne Lee - All Headline News Staff Reporter

Coushatta, LA (AHN) - A Louisiana school district is investigating complaints that a white bus driver forced nine black children to sit in the back of the bus.

School Superintendent Kay Easley says the driver has been suspended. No previous complaints had ever been filed against the driver, whose identity remains shielded.

Easley tells the Associated Press, "I'm trying to get all this straight, and settled, so we can all move on."

Two black mothers complained on Monday that their children, along with seven other black children, were ordered to sit in two rows in the back of the bus.

Janice Williams, who has four children taking public school buses, tells The Associated Press, "In all these years, I've never had a problem like this."

One of her children, Jarvonica Williams, 16, says black students were forced to stand or sit in each others' laps, while white students were permitted to take seats all to themselves.

Iva Richmond's 14- and 15-year-old children were also on the bus. She says her kids used to have a black bus driver. But when the white driver started this month, the kids were told they had assigned seats, with the black children sitting at the rear of the bus.

Richmond tells the AP, "All nine children were assigned to two seats in the back of the bus, and the older ones had to hold the smaller ones in their laps."

The women say their complaints to parish school officials were not handled right away. Easley says the driver has been suspended without pay. She says she wants to settle the matter, and will announce the results of an investigation on Sept. 5.

NAACP District Vice President James Panell says he will inform federal attorneys about the investigation this week.

And guess what is going to happen: This guy is going to get fired. The families are going to sue the school district and the school district will settle, costing 150k a pop.

When I was little, I always wanted to grab a back seat. The bumpy back roads were more fun. We'd try to see how far off the seat we could bounce when he hit potholes.

Blacks don't know how to have a good time.

I used to sit in the back of the bus because the bumps would make me hard.

Aren't kids supposed to wear seatbelts on the bus?

Those kids sitting on laps were at a serious risk black or not.

Apples and oranges.

If I was one of the other kids on that bus, and saw that those kids got the best seats on the bus every day, I would be pissed. That is my only point.

But I have mellowed nowadays. I would simply kill everyone in that town.

What next? Baseball GM going to get fired for assigning the black players to sweep out the dugout?

This is ridiculous. If I were a parent in that district, I would be outraged.

I can't believe they'd make white kids travel in the same bus as the negroes. :pointstosky:
