PastorOfMuppets 0 Posted August 26, 2006 Horse racing fans, and those looking to make (or lose) a buck ... Travers Day is here ... damn, the summer went by fast. It's been a maddening meet up there at Saratoga. So many incredible jocks/trainers/ponies. I've never seen a more wide open everyday slate of races. A lot of bombs have come in, to balance the chalk. One thing for certain, the only thing predictable about Saratoga 2006 is it's unpredictability. That brings us to today's card. 12 big ol' races this afternoon. Here are my selections: #1: I love the Contessa entry (1 & 1A). Morning line has them at 5-1. I like the 1A (Exploit Lad) better. I'll key that entry over the #3 and #6 for the exacta. #2: I like the #5 Gone Overboard, with Prado riding. Quinella with 1, 4, 8, 9. #3: Gotta LOVE the 1 and 1A entries here. Morning line has them at 8-1. Zito has Leparoux on the #1, while a formidable Prado/Dutrow combo are behind the 1A. I'll key them over the 5 and 7, exacta. #4: The #5 has Fernando Jara up riding for Mott. Morning line 8-1. Great value here, as Jara can close this course well. I'll use #5 in the quinella with the 2,3,9,10. #5:The #1 has Prado up for Zito, morning line 8-1. I'll key it over the 5,6,7 for the exacta. #6: Liking Garret Gomez on the #8 here. Morning line 6-1. Superfecta key over the 1,3,5. #7: Going to go with Castellano on the #9 Frankel horse. Morning line 3-1. He is the chalk here, but formidible. Key it over the 6 and 3 for trifecta. #8: I like Prado on the #3 Frankel horse. Morning line 6-1. Key over Dominguez on the #2 for the exacta. #9: I love Ashkal Way (1A) here. Ran a nice race against Invasor to kick off the season. Garret Gomez takes him home. Key over the 8 and 9 for a nice exacta. #10: I love Prado on Songster (#6) here. Morning line chalk, might go off even money. But Prado/Songster/Albertrani are the class of this field, even if the McLaughglin entry goes off as fave. #11: The big one ... The Travers. Bernardini looks unbeatable. This is an amazing horse, his performances in The Preakness and Jim Dandy were as impressive as Barbaro in The Derby. Morning line has him at 1, but expect 2-5, 3-5 by post time. If he runs his race, it will be a romp. Bluegrass Cat is going at 2-1 morning line. On paper, the only horse here who can even be considered besides Benardini. BGC had an amazing Haskell victory 3 weeks ago. I think the quick turnaround will hamper him. Saratoga is called "The Graveyard of Champions" for good reason. Hell, if Secratariat and Man O' War could lose here, Bernardini can as well. And, if he does, don't expect it to be BGC ... but rather the other Pletcher entry, the #4 High Cotton, ridden by Garret Gomez. I'll bet that exacta (5 over 4) heavily. Trifecta and Super: 5 over 4, 1, 7. That's my take on things. If you are betting today, best of luck.
UncleHulka 0 Posted August 26, 2006 Printing past performances for LA Downs as I type this... Got totally screwed by the horse racing Gawds last week, as I missed 3 trifectas by a neck or less. Maybe karma is better this time around. I love the track.
