how bout some love for reuben droughns...

Recommended Posts

i watched a lot of this guy the last 2 years and i gotta say, few runners have the all around game that he has. he runs w/ as much authority as anyone else in the league, has decent speed, breaks a ton of tackles, and catches the ball a lot better than most people think. poor situations, red zone blocking, and plain bad luck kept him at a pedestrian 2 tds last year, but i see that number climbing signifigantly this season. the line still is sub-par, but he will still get a ton of touches, and be effective. im gonna say 8 tds sounds about right. heres my projections for this guy who i project as a steal anytime after the 2nd round:

1,200 rush yds, 8 td's, 350 rec yds

itd be hard to have less tds than he did last year by accident. he will improve on his tds and i expect his yardage to be very good bc even though theyre a bad team he is still the focal point of the offense and is a special runner. very good value pick in this years drafts/auctions.

Droughns reminds me a little of Rudi. I underrated both because they are slow and don't have the best moves, but they seem to get it done.

Still, that offense is so bad I don't see Ruben improving his TD total a whole lot over last year's meager output.

no he's not. The Cleveland run game will be atrocious this season. I look for Jerome Harrison to become more prominent as the season goes along and Droughns to become the short yardage and goal line guy.

That's not too big of a stretch. The 3rd preseason game last week against Buffalo was very revealing, as Droughns shared significant playing time with Harrison during the first couple drives, plus Droughns was taken out of the game at the goalline in favor of some scrub who wears #47.

Buyer beware....And to think this guy's my #2.  :dunno:

franknbeans im curious what ur basing ur thought that he'll be looking over his shoulder on. bc his backup has had a good preseason? they dont use guys like droughns much in the preseason bc theyre going to get a big workload during the year. harrison is a decent back, but in no way is he a threat to droughns' job for this year.

I would be very worried about Harrison behind him on the depth chart. How good do we think the Cleveland running game will be this year anyway? I don't have very high hopes for it. Or did I miss something?

Isnt he running behind a 4th string center at this point? I just dont see him repeating last years totals.

They got 2 centers through trades, and they're the starter and backup right now, so it's not quite a 4th stringer out there. That would be the guy that's suspended the first 4 games. However, they aren't stupid enough to mortgage the team's future to go after anyone high priced when it's a 1 year filler assignment, so it's certainly not a strong position either.

I'm hoping on comparable yardage to last year, and the offense should move the ball better this year, so I see him easily getting more TDs. His yards might suffer some, and he won't do much receiving with Harrison there.

It sounds like you have a serious case of the denials.

We all know the 3rd preseason game is used for teams to prepare for the regular season, and when your starting RB is sharing carries with a rook in the 1st quarter and being taken out for goalline carries in the 1st quarter, that has to raise an eyebrow.

just a hunch but the Cleveland regime has been pretty happy with what Harrison brings to the table. Not saying they're unhappy with Droughns but I could envision Droughns wearing down in the middle of the season behind that offensive line. I am also not saying that Harrison all of a sudden becomes the guy, I think it would take an injury for that to occur.

Don't be too surprised when you see Harrison alternating series with Droughns

Clearly, Reuben Droughns and Jerome Harrison will be the one-two punch at running back. Droughns looks ready to pick up where he left off last year. Harrison got playing opportunities with the starters, and not just on third down. He continues to play well and should be an excellent change of pace for Droughns.

To indulge the Droughns fans: Change of pace does not mean RBBC.

To indulge reality: This is a below average team in an absolutely stacked division, especially defensively. The Ravens and Steelers could be the #1 and #2 defenses in the league this year, looking at how Chicago's team chemistry is just wearing down. I can't expect Droughns, or that team, to do much of anything worthwhile this year.

They have run the ball well against first team defenses so far with the current center situation. Droughns is averaging 4.3 ypc and Harrison is averaging 6.8. They will make a nice 1-2 punch. Droughns should surpass last year's totals in TDs easily this year and have around the same yardage. Harrison is going to surprise some people and catch a lot of balls out of the backfield, Phil Savage found a gem.
