League making me drop a RB.....

Recommended Posts

SO the league rules say that you can have a max 4RB's on your roster.....

I drafted 11th fo 12.... I have Caddy, LaMont, C. Brown and MB III....

I picked up Lundy today and dropped my 2nd kicker.......

CBS says that I have an illegal roster.... which is fine, as long as it is legal by the start of the first game.....

Commish calls me up and says, "he doesn't care what CBS says/does.....and that I must have my roster legal and down to 4 RB by 5:00 PM today or I forfeit my first game."

Rather than blow this up into a big argument :( .... I guess I am gonna dropa RB.....

Between C. Brown, MB III and Lundy..... I'm leanig towards MBIII....

Someone change mind mind????

I'd tell your commish to GFH unless he has a written rule that says when your roster must be legit.

Your commish sounds like a Bitter Betty; he probably wanted Lundy - do you get your kicker back? That blows - - probably drop Barber, the others are starters, at least for now; but I think you'll regret dropping Barber by mid-season.

That kinda silly of the comish.. sounds like he is just bitter he didnt get Lundy.

I assume you start 2 RBs? Or do you have a Flex? I will assume you start 2.

So you will need a back-up by week 3 for Jordans bye. Who will be a starter in week 3? Lundy, Brown or M. Barber?

I would first try and trade M. Barber to whoever has J. Jones. If he wont give anything for him, drop him or Brown. Hell even if he gives you a better Kicker or Defense then what you have ts better than just dropping him. But you better hurry.. you only have til 5.

If your league has ridiculous roster limits like that, they need to be spelled out entirely, in writing, so things like this don't happen. Your commissioner is an a$$ and shouldn't be given any power. I would almost be tempted to keep the RBs, forfeit the first week if you have to, and ask for a league vote or clarification on the topic. If they all suck, find a new league.

But, I would drop MBIII if you have to drop one. If everyone else can only have 4 RBs, he should be on the WW for most of the season if you need him.

Seriously, only 4 RBs allowed? Stupid.

Why is the commish the bad guy for enforcing a league rule.

I think the rule is stupid, but if it is a league rule doesn't he have the obligation to enforce it. Looks like he is just doing his job to me.

Drop Chris Brown - without question, least amount of upside.

And punch your commish in the face in front of his wife and kids.

DROP BROWN. Unless he miraculously gets traded to a team where he is the clear cut #1, his value in Tenn is minimal. He currently got demoted to backup, but even if he regains the top spot, he will definitely lose carries to Henry and White. His upside is minimal.

MBIII has limited value right now, but his upside is huge. IF JJ gets hurt (and he always seems to), MBarber would immediately become a top #2 back in FFB. He is a solid receiver and would be able to put up great #s in that offense. I would hold him for now.

I am a Commish and will voice the minority opinion here. I assume the whole league voted on your rules when the league was set up. You knowingly and intentionally violated the rules.

If you don't like this or any rule, suggest changes and let the league vote on it. Or find a new league.

Exactly, sounds like the league rule states that you can only have 4 RBs. The commish is enforcing it, this guy is whining, and people are are backing him. Too funny. Take issue with the rule, push to change it next year, but if it's written that way, you have to follow it. Simple.

If he has a problem with illegal rosters, he should block owners from picking people up on the system and have some sort of manual system.

I am obviously in the minority but if you have league rules about how many players you have at each position, I think he is clearly in the right to enforce this. Especially, if you knew the rules. Just because a website allows you do something that doesnt fit your league rules, doesnt mean its OK.

I would drop Barber also.

If having more that 4 RB's is against the league rule, then why is the website (roster restrictions) not set up as such?

If it was, then it would not let you pick up a 5th RB.

You people are amazing. You have zero knowledge of the league that this guy plays in, but because there is a rule that you, not being a part of said league, don't agree with, your advice to the original poster is to respond to the dislike of the rule?

Over the top? No. It absolutely isn't. I don't care if you like the rule or not, but if it's a rule, it's there for a reason. Instead of being so hot-headed about it, and getting on your soapbox because you were made to follow a rule, you might try asking the commissioner the reasoning behind the rule. You might that there is an answer!!!

Of course, you should be warned . . . taking this approach may mean getting over yourself, and believing that there is possibly a different viewpoint.

For crying out loud, quit whining about the rule. Amazing irony - You come on here, lay out the rule, indicating that you understand the rule, deliberately break the rule, and then look for support for breaking the rule.

Did I miss anything?

First, why is it over the top to enforce a written rule? That makes no sense. Why have rules if you expect everyone to break them?

Second, I would say now is just as if not more important than any other time to enforce roster limits if you have them at all. Starting spots are being decided, players are getting cut, put on IR, traded etc... If your league has rules to regulate it and the commish doesn't enforce it, he is allowing an unethical owner to take advantage while owenrs who follow the rules are at a disadvantage.

Again, if you don't like the rule that is one thing, vote to change it (or better yet, you should have voted to change it at your draft which was just held). Don't just ignore rules you don't like and the get all pissy when the commish enforces them.

You have an illegal roster.

Why are you doing that? The problem is not your commish, but you. You are holding on to players that you shouldn't be.

I don't get it.

Regardless of what anyone thinks of flexible or non flexible rosters is besides the point. I play in both and they both are challenging in different ways. Different strokes for different folks. There's no right way or wrong way of playing fantasy football. The rules were apparently spelled out and you intentionally violated them to hord RBs. In other words, you are basically cheating. If I were your commish, Lundy would already be a free man.

To go further.

If that's the case, why not pick up ALLLL the running backs in free agency and then drop them ALL right before game one. There is still 1 more preseason left, anything could happen.

Again, i would had done the same as your commish.

This is an interesting quandry...because I'm considering doing something similar when waivers run in our league. I was going to put somebody healthy on IR (since oddly I have nobody injured, not even a turf toe when i need it!!!) and pick up Lundy if I can get him, and maybe Henry too. I just want to beat the DD owner to the punch and give myself trade value to get DeAngelo Williams off him (since I've got Foster). What i'm curious about is this...has no one in your league ever had an "illegal roster" previously leading up to a game time? Was that person told to fix their roster by End of Day or forfeit their game that weekend? My feeling is that you're only in violation of the rule if your roster looks like that on the day of the first game. He sounds like a bitter person who didn't get his waiver pick.

That being said, who to drop is a question mark. I'm not convinced that Brown isn't the starter still, or that he doesn't have value when/if he is traded to another team. The ironic part would be if you drop him to keep Lundy and he gets traded to Houston or Denver (both rumors have circulated) and becomes an even better starter. Then you'd possibly be given him the Houston starter in exchange for the backup there, and the egg would be on your face (I hate egg on my face). I think I'd stall and ask for a vote from the other owners, just to piss him off.

To comply, Rule change must state if you exceed maximum number of players at a position, you have 24 hours to correct your roster or take a forfeit in the week''s game Add it to the rules

I know someone who did this, who dropped all his backups and waivered all the remaining defenses because his opponent in the Championship game had a crappy defense with a horrible matchup. He held all the defenses as reserves and ended up winning by like 3 points or something because the guys defense got him nothing. All is fair in this game.

Being a commish, i'd manually drop that player from your roster and return him to the palyer pool while putting your 'Healthy" player back off IR. Let the owner's vote on it, but you wouldn't get your guy until they overturned me. How's that? To me, you are PURPOSELY violating the spirit of the rules and fair play to gain an advantage (more RBs). As a commish, it's my job to make sure that isn't allowed.

In my leagues IR is clearly defined. Unless a guy is listed as OUT due to an injury, you cannot put them on IR. Additionally, once a player plays in a game after being out, you have until 12:00pm that following Tuesday to drop a player and take him off IR.

It amazes me how people try to cheat and then justify it.

I'm sorry. Are you actually in his league? If you're not, then you're wrong. If you are, then say so. Because the rule he laid out suggested that what you're saying is not the intention of the rule. I suspect that you're stating this out what you feel should be the "general rule" of fantasy football, and that often leads to supposition and error.

Our rosters are right now set at 20, and will be for the duration of the season. This is true from the end of the draft forward. We like the rule, especially in a salary cap dynasty league. We also have a rule that says you can't be over the cap (we have a correction period). I suppose we should be allowed to break that rule because people on this fantasy website know our league rules better than I do.

;)

Worded perfectly in my opinion, and make the league vote on the rule change but that no decision has to be made until the vote is complete. If the rule doesn't specify, seems like a loophole to me. If he's gonna quote rules to you,

I'm just curious why he is allowing you to pick. It would seem logical that the RB you picked up to violate the rule would be the one you'd have to drop. That being said given the choice I'd drop MBIII as well. I think C Brown plays somewhere as a starter if not in Tenn. this year. MBIII has a lot of upside but I think JJ is more than capable when he gets it going.

See skinny bastards post. So according to you, I can pick up every single FA RB, WR, QB and TE and hoard them until the lineups are due? Please, the guy is cheating. He knows the rules, he is purposely violating them to hoard 1 more running back than the league rules allow. It's unfair to other owners and it is CHEATING. This is clearly a case of the commish simply doing his job to stop a cheater.

Lundy was the RB he illegally picked up so that's why as his commish I'd release that player as if it never happened in the first place because it really shouldn't have.

Wow, what a bunch of unscrupulous cheaters we have among us. You'd all be kicked out of my league at the end of the year for crap like that. Finding loopholes and exloiting them is still cheating IMO. You are violating the spirit of the rules.

Devils advocate: Why does the comish allow people to pick up more than 4 RBs if he is so opposed to RB hording? Set up the site to limit the number of RBs you can have on your team. Legal rosters has to do with game time.
