Chris Simms in Critial Condition

Recommended Posts

After the game Simms was taken to a TB hospital with unknown injuries. He took some nasty shots in the first two quarters of the game and it's believed he was possibly dehydrated by the 4th quarter.

Possible he has major internal injuries of some sort. <- My thoughts. Not reported in article.

EDIT: For those who don't want to make an account / basic summary.

"Chris Simms is in critical condition at a Tampa hospital with unknown injuries.

Coach Jon Gruden said he hurt his ribs, but didn't seem to know about severity of the injuries. Simms took a couple hard hits to his midsection and looked dazed to us. Simms did impressively come back in to finish the game." Sep. 24 - 7:29 pm et

Pete King reporting on NBC that he's not in critical, but has been hospitalized. I certainly hope this is accurate and that it's not as bad as originally being reported.

Gruden already reported that Simms hurt his ribs early in the game, add this to the fact that he was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. Critical condition typically means you have a real posibility of DYING in the next 24 hours. It's not incredibly hard to connect the two to some major internal issue. If it was just a broken rib or something, it wouldn't be anywhere near as serious.

Then again, I don't know the specfics, I haven't found anything for sure yet. That's why I didn't quote that part, that was just my guess based on the information we had.

i belive that nbc just said the he is not in critical condition, but they are trying to contact phil simms. so they will not release any information until the family is contacted. and he was supposedly suffering from dehydration.

Al Michaels just reported he is NOT in critical condition, but he is in fact in the hospital. Peter King talked to someone in TB's front office...

Emergency surgery to remove his spleen and a blood transfusion... but it "wasn't" life-threatening? :headbanger:

Glad I dropped him this week for Kitna! :pointstosky:

Glad to hear that he's out of immediate danger. Ruptured spleen is a very serious injury. I've seen a number of patients barely make it into our O.R. to have their's removed after horrific car wrecks etc.

Yeah, extra dangerous since you can suffer a good deal of bleeding before you realize how serious the injury is.

Hmm, getting organs removed has become all the rage for young QBs. Appendix for Big Ben...spleen for Simms...brain for Vince Young.

Exactly right my friend. It's typically a very scary time just to get the bleeding stopped.

his spleen is up to $445 on eBay

seriously though...thats some scary stuff...i hope he makes it through this ok...

i always cringe when fat sportswriters say...ahh its ok, it isnt life threatening..uh...maybe not..but its pretty damn dicey..even still..seeing how he responds after this...

then again, if a puzzy like peter forsberg could survive this..im sure simms will...

sad news about reggie wayne also...that had to be a kick in the pants :(

toes for tom dempsey...

Peter King just said on NBC that there won't be an official timetable on Simms' return until at least tomorrow, but they've talked to several physicians who have said he will need at least a 2- to 3-month recovery period. So, most likely Simms is done for the season. :(

Peter King says he talked to some physicians and they believe recuperating from this could take Simms 2-3 months. He's likely done for the season if this is the case. Do the Bucs go with Rattay or Gradkowski?

That really sucks for the Bucs, but my guess is they go with Gradkowski, until he makes a couple of rookie mistakes and Rattay takes over.
