SABRES win

Recommended Posts

If you want to go back and forth with me about hockey, or the Sabres, be my guest.

But see, I do. And you resorted to calling Murray a "dumbass", a "focking dumbass", and hoping Ruff would go over and "punch his stupid ass out so we didn't have to listes to his lisp after the game."

As I said before, the overwhelming majority of analyists have said it was a clean hit. Drury was watching his pass instead of keeping his head up and he got smoked. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Drury - I've always thought of him as one of the most underrated players in the NHL for years. And, while I hate the Sabres (and the Senators too, for the record), I think they're the team to beat come playoff time. Other than Martin Brodeur, I can't think of a goalie I'd rather have than Ryan Miller. But Lindy Ruff was a dirty cheap-shot artist when he played, so maybe you're right - maybe Murray should have expected Ruff to pull a stunt like that after a clean hit. He WAITED for Murray to put out a skill line and, with home-ice having last call on changes, he sent out the goon squad in an act of cowardice that mirrored his playing days.

I know how hard it is to cool off when you're upset about something like this - Jeanneret's call of "May-day" still haunts me as a Bruins fan. But what I'm saying is to cool off and look at it objectively. If you still feel that way then fine, we disagree. :headbanger:

Because being around hockey for as long as he has been, he should realize what probably was going to happen.

i have to agree..i saw that and thought crap, did he leave Preissing out there?....

TP is more valuable to that team than Murray may know and he has no interest getting into brawls...

its 1 thing to believe a hit was clean..but when the home team ir irate and the players are yelling for blood.. maybe murray had the bad idea that if he put out tough guys, that people would say he was keeping it going...

all he did was put superstars in jeopardy..thankfully, peters cant skate straight or he may have hurt heatley..

Yeah, but my point is Ruff WAITED for the Heatley line. What's Murray supposed to do - leave McGratton et. al on the ice the whole period?

Well I really believe he was a dumbass last night. This isn't rocket science. Drury gets taken out with a borderline hit. Do you think Ruff has the luxury of walking back into the locker room and watch a replay and analyze the hit? No, he had to go by what he saw in real time. And if you notice after the hit, Neil threw his elbow up. It was not an elbow, but I could see how Ruff thought so from that angle in real time. His response was warrented, and Murray should have noticed how irate Ruff was and anticipated something was going to happen. I don't even see how you could disagree. Just for the sake on insurance, put your tough guys out after that in case Buffalo goes after you. This is hockey 101 here. Then Murray played dumb after the game saying he didn't think that would happen. Please, anyone could see it from a mile away.

OK fine, I can see how, in the heat of the moment, it might have been borderline - hindsight is 20/20, etc. But my point is that Ruff WAITED for Murray to put skill players out before sending out Peters, etc. What's Murray supposed to do - leave his goon squad on the ice the whole period? And then we get to Peters. Emery is already engaged with Biron, and Peters comes in and jumps a GOALIE?!?!? You can't defend that. I'm not saying Ruff should have done nothing - you have to defend your boys. But to wait for the skill-line to come out instead of going mano-a-mano - I can't condone that.

Now, if you want to talk hockey - as a Sabres fan, who do you see as their biggest threat to the Stanley Cup this year?

I don't think it even matters if he waited. The point remains, just in case, Murray should have sent out the appropriate guys. No, not for the whole period, just for that next shift.

As for Buffalo's biggest threat, New Jersey always scares me. Buffalo never wins there, and they have Brodeur. I pray we don't have to face them.

This is a disturbing trend in the NHL. Players going for head shots.

Neil put his shoulder right into his head and he made the move when the shot was already being taken.

He waited until Drury was looking at where to shoot and then made the move for the hit when he was defensless.

Too many players now are doing this, waiting for a guy to have no idea your coming when he is looking to pass or shoot and lining up the hit at the players head. It wouldn't be as bad if the guy goes for the hit as the guy goes for the pass or shot but the player waits until the guy is committed to the shot or pass and getting there late.

The refs are going to have to start calling head shot penalties. Just look at how many guys are out with concussions right now.

ruff fined 10k

no suspension for neil, further proof the hit, while mistimed, was clean.

I have no issues with that. Still don't think Ruff should have been fined.

You've got an impressive team for sure. Not sure anyone else has your depth.

In the meantime, Gainey went out and got us an AHL goalie for the stretch drive. If the Habs miss the playoffs and he doesn't resign Souray, I'm pretty sure the natives will begin asking for Gainey's head. People keep touting our prospects but most of them seem to me to be 20-goal scoring perimeter players wih no grit. That's certainly better than the crap Houle and company drafted for a decade but it doesn't win cups.

How do you Sabre fans like the Biron deal? To me, I think Buffalo won that deal.

Marty is an UFA, so he would have walked after this season. They were able to take the pick and land some scoring depth with Zubrus. They had to move Biron in order to make a deal. (to get under the cap).

Has Kostitsyn stayed up with the Habs? Or does he get sent down to Hamilton a lot?

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I think you guys made out like thieves at the trade deadline. Well done, Darcy Regier. :headbanger:

He's only been up a couple of times. This time around, he wasn't really sent down. They said he had been sent down but he actually travelled with the team. He looks to me like another prototypical perimeter player.

its ty conklin time baby!! ryan is running the show and ty is a very capable backup..they are team usa buddies...

plus, unlike wolf eyes biron, ty can fight..as evident by his win over atlanta 2 years ago and his classic punch up vs thunder bay in 96-ushl..if anyone sees him locally, ask him about that game..he will light up like a Christmas tree...good fockin times..

Well good game so far. If the Habs played that way all the time, the losses would be easier to accept. I think Carbonneau has FINALLY figured out that you need to forecheck with more than one guy...

Did you see the hit on Toronto's Kaberle? Weird...it was a late hit but it looks like he saw the guy coming and still got brutally hit.

Must've missed the slash...when did it happen?

yes that Toronto hit, and the slash on Vanek as he put it in the empty net are two examples of why i get frustrated with the NHL. Things like this happen way too much in the league and its because the league never does anything about it. players do these things that could really hurt someone and the league will only give a little slap on the wrist if they do anything at all. the dirty play has to get cleaned up.

Marty didn't look too bad. I think the Flyers should sign him to a long-term deal. Holmgren is making the right moves.....rebuild, become younger, set a new foundation.

2nd youngest team in the league now. And they may try to get Forsberg back next season.

you really WANT him back?...

if you could pay the league minumim...sure..why not?

but 8 million?...are people kidding?....

phily shouldve thrown rocks at bobby clarke when he made that deal....its like no one out east pays attn to the fact that hes never healthy and rarely plays through it anymore...

so now with the funky stupid scheduling..the west barely sees the east...was nashville snoozing?...

FOUR players for a guy whos most likely a rental? he missed the last game with an upper body injury?

yeah...his head..hes a head case..

sadly, he will be the next player to die during a game if he continues...

if he wouldve hit the way Drury or Kaberle were, he would be dead..but guys let up..no one wants to touch him and be that guy..he's like Orr at the end..no one wanting to hit his knee and be the one to end it for him...

i have no love for players who cant fight through injuries...

but i do love what phily has done..same as the blues..load up on picks..but DONT get foppa back...u have to get rid of the peter and hatcher types and they are..

oh, and esche needs to go also before his cancer spreads and harms birons career...

Forsberg can't stay healthy yes. But he is still one of the best passers and set-up guys in the NHL. Sign him to a 1 year deal, wrap him in bubble-wrap until the playoffs start.

With or without him though, the Flyboys will be a playoff team next year.

The playoffs are approaching quickly. The Sabres are starting to heal up just in time. I'm getting pumped for the playoffs. Going Wednesday to see Ovechkin, then Friday to watch the Maple Laffs. Playoffs will be tricky, but I should manage to get to a game or two each round.

I'll link this one since I was there. :P

I agree with the forsberg part....

he should be on the roger clemens scheduled..but paid much less than he gets now.....he is a mega talent..but hes also damaged goods..i think nashville is learning that now..

let him go to Sweden or whatever...and when its playoff time..maybe he will have the right fitting pair of skates by then....

he makes kevin mench look smart...

****************

oh yeah...40+ saves for conklin!! :shocking: way to chase him out of town Edmonton...no need to blame jason smith for that gaffe..enjoy the playoffs from home while conklin backs up miller and 1 of the top teams in the east...

rolosson :pointstosky:

speaking of ex-flyers....this is one of my fave fights that i saw in person..if this stuff happened today, there would be an uproar..we were 10 rows up from this..my best friend spilled his beer on everyone in front of us and no one cared...

time to kill the Euro style of puzzy hockey and put on da foil.....
