ruptured groin 0 Posted October 17, 2006 I have the top waiver wire selection and have my choice of either of these guys. I was all set to go with Pennington, but if Lienart is for real he is probably a better fit for the tough weeks that Bulger faces -- bye this week, SD next week and Chicago in week 14... Who would you rather have? Post yours and I will respond...
just_want_2_win 0 Posted October 17, 2006 Pennington has a nice matchup this week vs. the Lions.
redshirtrookie 0 Posted October 17, 2006 i'd go with pennington as well. the lions secondary is horrible. http://www.fftodayforums.com/forum/index.p...howtopic=245061

mgm32 0 Posted October 18, 2006 Definitely Pennington against a weak Detroit D See mine http://www.fftodayforums.com/forum/index.p...howtopic=245134
djrockstar 0 Posted October 18, 2006 Despite the sports world slobbering all over Lienart I think we have more data regarding Pennington. I agree Detroit is a favorable matchup (expect a nice game from Cotchery as Coles matches up against Bly). If I'm not mistaken, Raiders are actually quite good against the pass. Still, I considering what Lienart did against Chicago I think you could expect good numbers ... if not for the post Monday night letdown. Short week coupled with an emotional loss. I think Raiders will probably defeat the Cards. Pennington is your man. Thanks for answering mine.
Drews Crew 0 Posted October 18, 2006 Actually I was looking at Leinhart as well. I like Penningtons matchups down the road. But when Fitz comes back, things could get good in Zona. Pennington for now, Leinhart later if possible.
king41 0 Posted October 18, 2006 I like Lienart... Detroit's 2ndary is not horrible---They've been hurt since week 1 when they played Seattle. A couple of key guys have come back, like F. Bryant who just lays people out. Detroit Lions get their 2nd win!
Sux2butoo 0 Posted October 18, 2006 I grabbed Matt in the beginning and was waiting for these days. How a man can go against two of the top defenses and come out unscathed.... it is an omen... he has the weapons and has the durability that Chad lacks..... in Matt we trust
SaintsInDome2006 663 Posted October 18, 2006 I think you'll be okay either way, but I might just start Penn. Some reasons: the Cards just got a new OC (or rather just eliminated their current one) Oak is just awful against the run and pretty decent on the pass and it reflects in qb/wr stats; Oak is at home (right?) and they probably smell blood here against a reeling Ari team, they might just show up for this one. Pennington's at home and the Lion's D while not bad has been lit up a few times. I would go with Pennington.
ruptured groin 0 Posted October 18, 2006 Thank you all for you thoughts. The following is a more complete snapshot of my thoughts on this question: I have Bulger (and Harrington) and am trying to decide between Lienart and Pennington (hit waivers on Sat.) as a replacement for Harrington. Gradkowski is available, but I don't think I need to burn a waiver claim if I want him. I have Bulger so I don't need an every week starter. I need to fill weeks 7 and 8 (vs SD)... 9 (vs. KC) and 14 (vs CHI) would be nice too. Here are my thoughts: Pennington -- probably the only one of these replacement options that I would consider a serious weekly starter, but then again, that is not what i need. Bye week 9 Lienart -- potentially huge potential (notice the lack of conviction there). probably the best overall schedule match for what I need (except that this weekend against OAK worries me). but he is a rookie with an 0-2 record coming off an emotional Monday night loss going up against the, amazingly enough, top 5 ranked OAK pass D. also has a bye week 9 Harrington -- great matchup at home vs. GB this weekend and he is on my roster so no need to burn the waiver claim... but, really, he is Joey Harrington afterall -- I would hang myself if I ever actually used him after this weekend Gradkowski -- my dark horse backup QB. decent schedule in the weeks I need him -- PHI at home next week and they have given up a lot to passers, no bye week issues. a mobile QB under Gruden. that having been said, I really don't think 3 QBs are flying off the waiver wire this weekend and he is probably the one left standing after the music stops, so i don't think i need to burn the waiver claim. What do I do? Am I seriously overthinking this one? If so, is Pennington the obvious answer that I refuse to accept as a Jets fan?
Nanda 0 Posted October 18, 2006 I think Pennington if you are only worried about this week. Leinart if you are looking for something more long-term.
napa joe 0 Posted October 18, 2006 I would give the nod to Pennington this week at home vs. Detroit. That said, I believe Leinert has looked terrific the past two weeks and believe the new OC will only open up their passing game even more. So if it's one or the other for the three week period, I would go with Leinert.
