Uh-huh 0 Posted November 9, 2006 Suck it, cons...we're bringing respectability back to Congress. Whoa! Hold your horses, sonny. Webb is ahead by 8,000 votes, but unless Allen concedes there will be a recount. This won't be decided for a few weeks.

I heard things. Behind the scenes...cons are urging Macaca not to challenge...they want to stop dragging this thing out.

TyCobb 0 Posted November 9, 2006 The election's over dude, you can stop pretending to be outraged about Webb's book. I never was outraged by the book. Just wondering if this is the guy he's claiming will bring respectability to the Senate.
MDC 7,405 Posted November 9, 2006 I never was outraged by the book. Just wondering if this is the guy he's claiming will bring respectability to the Senate. If you define "respectibility" as stupid bullsh1t like writing a racy book about the war I guess you're right. Personally I think Jim Webb is going to be a great Senator. He's a Vietnam vet, former secretary of the navy under Reagan, his son is an active duty Marine in Iraq and Webb was a lifelong Republican until recently. What else do you want out of an elected rep? He has a personal stake in everything that's going on right now.
Voltaire 5,315 Posted November 9, 2006 I never was outraged by the book. Just wondering if this is the guy he's claiming will bring respectability to the Senate. Ah.. Ty, Ty, Ty. Nobody really gives a fock about that stuff except the people at your church. He wrote a novel and the marines -God forbid- went to a strip club. The thing is ... competence. How you do the job. How you'll vote. And frankly, yes, I suspect Jim Webb will bring respectability to Congress. He really really seems like a great guy and I hope he does Virginia proud. You know, with Lincoln Chaffee and Jim Jeffords gone, I'm going to need a new favorite Senator. Fock all- Virginia just replaced one of the worst with one of the best. Hopefully he does everything he says he'll do.

Maybe there's smoke there but I doubt any fire. Obviously, I never bothered to pay attention to the 'scandal' nor did I read the book. I just heard it was about a novel he wrote, rolled my eyes, and didn't think it was worth my time. Understand I don't get my news from TV, I don't get American TV. I read online. If something sounds stoopid -like Brittney Spears divorce or National League baseball- I don't open a link.

TyCobb 0 Posted November 9, 2006 Really? Maybe there's smoke there but I doubt any fire. Obviously, I never bothered to pay attention to the 'scandal' nor did I read the book. I didn't read it either. The quotes I read online referenced a father holding his son upside down and putting the young boy's pen!s into his mouth. Just doesn't sound respectable to me for a Senator. But, hey, I respect your opinion. He may do a fine job. He's obviously served the country with respectability in the past.

And no, I don't support racism. But I would point out that it is the Democrats trotting out Robert KKK Byrd year after year, not the Repubs.

Just doesn't sound respectable to me for a Senator. Webb says that scene was something he actually witnessed in Vietnam. The book the excerpt came from has been lauded by John McCain and Tim O'Brien (among others) as a graphic depiction of the war. Incidently, I'm really stunned by what a totally inept and pathetic campaign George Allen ran. He was up by something like 15 percentage points in July. Then he makes the macaca comments, follows that up with a really stupid explanation, and days before the election his campaign floats excerpts of a book to the Drudge Report. Is this the same George Allen who was a presidential hopeful six months ago? If Allen is among the best the GOP has to offer it's no wonder they got clobbered in the elections.
