Tusekan Raiders 0 Posted December 24, 2006 The famous annual collection (and occasional reviews) of the best free NFL draft information on the net. I don't include a site if most of their draft content is premium (e.g. ESPN). The first post has general links and resources. The second has all-star game coverage. The third has Combine and Pro Day/individual workout coverage. NFL DRAFT LINKS FFToday.com Matt Waldman - Rookie Scouting Portfolio (Pay - sample) Tony Nowak - 2007 RB class: final review!@#! Tony Nowak - 2007 RB class: pre-combine update Tony Nowak - 2007 RB class: regular season end update Tony Nowak - 2007 RB class: early season update Tony Nowak - 2007 RB class: preview Underclassmen declared thread Draft websites NFL.com Draft Central Draft information on the NFL’s official website. The Combine updates and Pro Day tracking by Gil Brandt are one of the best annual features. Lots of analysis and profiles. Keenan Davis had weekly articles in Nov. on under-the-radar prospects. - Prospect profiles NFL Draftguys Premier ff draftniks Cecil Lammey and Sigmund Bloom started a new site. Launches this fall, but already some great stuff out there. NFL Draft Countdown For one-stop shopping of NFL draft information, Scott Wright has one of the best independent free draft website. Nice layout, easy navigation, solid rankings, decent profiles, and Scott produces one of the better independent mocks every year. Also has a good blog. - Rankings and prospect profiles Sports Illustrated Draft Central SI.com has been the best in class of the big box brands, and continues to be free. Their rankings are typically excellent (unlike the ones you have to pay for from ESPN). However, I don't know wtf they are doing this year, if the rankings/profiles are they, I can't find them. - Prospects video - nice feature - Bucky Brooks top 10 RBs - Bucky Brooks top 10 WRs - Bucky Brooks top 10 QBs Dallas News NFL Draft Home - featuring Rick Gosselin, one of the most respected newspaper draftniks. - Gosselin rankings - Gosselin archive. - Gosselin draft page Yahoo! NFL Draft Home John Murphy's contributions and video clips highlight one of the better big box offerings this year. John appears to have left his own indy website (NextLevel Scouting) and stream-of-consciousness method to a more structured at-least weekly Yahoo column as their primary NFL draft writer, replacing Charles Robinson. Excellent addition for Yahoo. John is plugged in and brings unique and interesting tidbits you don't find anywhere else. - Rankings and prospect profiles - Murphy archive Fox Sports Draft Central Not much news for a big box, but partnership with CFN.scout.com links some good stuff. Great Blue North Draft Report Best feature of Canuck Colin Lindsey’s site is the running news updates on the main page. Another nice feature is the frequently updated Junior Scoreboard, tracking the status of underclassmen. On the Clock Draft Nice running draft news stories on main page and decent profiles. Draft Daddy First turned on to this site for their undrafted free agent coverage, but they have all kinds of draft content. By far the best feature is their blog. MSNBC Draft HQ Mock, quick blurbs, and team needs. Succint and without much depth. Pro Football Weekly NFL Draft Home Nolan Nawrocki is not the draft guru Joel Buschbaum was, but in fairness, who is today? Content remains lacking since Joel’s passing. NOTE: also prospect talk in the College Notes and College Football Extras sections. Football's Future One of the more improved sites the last couple of years. Originally known for their mock draft links, they also have comprehensive and original profiles and team needs analysis. Also added a decent blog. Fantasy Football Toolbox Draft Index A lot of comprehensive profiles, including of future prospects (ineligible underclassmen), although some haven't been updated in a while. Also have list of mock drafts from around the net. NFL Draft Showcase Allen Trieu has a nice assortment of content, all original, and includes some video highlights. NFL Draft Forecast Decent layout and navigation, but questionable rankings and outdated profiles. A collection of original articles and interviews, but not much substance. Best feature is video highlights links of various top prospects. NFL Draft Dirt Blog on draft news and some articles. NFL Draft Site New blog that is pretty active, mostly focusing on small school prospects. Houston Chronicle draft blog AOL Fanhouse blog entries - AOL blogs filed under 'NFL prospects' keyword Rookiepedia The wikipedia concept applied to this year's draft. Very interesting concept, but needs more work to be good material. Houstonprofootball.com NFL Draft War Room Obviously the slant of the content is related to the Texans, but the best draft information on a team’s fan website I've seen. The profiles are decent, but there are only five at a position, and for 2007 they have only done QBs so far. Newspaper-quality articles are the other main content. Not much 2007 content yet. Rob's Scouting I’m usually not a big fan of his rankings and the site is a little rough, but Rob McCartney has been around for a while, does his own scouting, and writes his own in-depth profiles. He seems to not be updating his website, but instead has started a blog. There's a lot more content on the blog, so not sure if he will no longer be updating his site. hR mock draft links Nice compilation of mocks, bills themselves as the largest such resource on the net, by Hail Redskins. Consensus Draft Services NFLfans.com (formerly The Draft Exchange) Quirky site whose brutally crowded layout is a sensory overload. Look on the left for prospect rankings and profiles. Forums seem to find some unique and hard-to-find information, especially during the Combine and workouts. KFFL Draft Central Draft Database Replaces draftbook.com, and openly admits it, an independent site that closed down a few years ago. Like draftbook.com, they compile prospect profiles and reviews from a handful of other sources. About.com NFL Draft home The usual hit or miss quality if you poke around long enough, for those who have ever used about.com to find info. Draftboard Insider Football.com Draft Home Draft notes and rankings is about it. If you have the name "Football.com", you'd expect better, but Allen Trieu has joined this year and his stuff is pretty good. theHogs.net Draft Section Washington fan site isn’t Redskin-centric with their draft information. Draft news and underclassmen news blogs are about the only current value, but there was a big database of prospects with profiles, albeit brief ones, last year. Sportsnutz.com Rankings are mediocre and lots of content is still "coming soon", along with bad layout, but the Team Needs section (which is also supposed to be coming soon) was actually decent last year. Draft news ProSportsDaily.com NFL Draft News Google news on NFL Draft Profootballtalk.com Rumor Mill - infamous rumor mill has been known to break stories before the mainstream media. This is all NFL news, but I've found interesting draft stuff on here too. COLLEGE FOOTBALL NEWS College Football News.com I'm rather disappointed collegefootballnews.com mergered with scout.com (now cfn.scout.com). The content is more or less the same, the best college football website on the net. However, the layout suffers from merging with the crowded scout.com format, as well as their pop-ups. Although almost all the content remains free, scout.com is fee-driven, so we could be losing another great free site soon. Look for articles by Pete Fiutak who covers draft stuff there. College Sports TV (CSTV) Website of college network with tons of articles on college teams and players, the same ones you’d find in the news section of many college team’s football websites, who they partner with for content. USA Today conference reports TSN D-IA Coverage TSN D-IAA Coverage College Sporting News (CSN) Top D-IAA football website. The former I-AA.org merged with them. D2football.com One of the top websites covering NCAA Division II football reviews some dark horses. Pro hopefuls is their preseason review of top DII NFL prospects. RESOURCES DraftHistory.com NFL.com Draft History NFL.com Brandt - history of Combine Official NCAA football statistics (all divisions) 2007 traded draft picks (courtesy of Draft Insiders' Digest) 2007 free agents (courtesy of The Red Zone) 2007 free agent review (Matt Waldman - fftoday.com) Official site of NFL Combine THR Mock Draft scores (still 2006 ranking, obviously) Mock Draft Muncher -basically a macro that sorts results of a number of mock drafts, explained in FAQ. Tusekan Raiders 0 Posted December 24, 2006 ALL-STAR GAMES Here's where you can catch the senior prospects playing in their last game before the draft. It was historically frowned upon to invite underclassmen to these events, but the competition to get top talent to attract attendance and scouts is fierce. Even the "Senior" Bowl invited ND underclassman Tommy Z this year. For a while there was just the Shrine Game, Blue-Gray Game, Hula Bowl, and Senior Bowl. In recent years, a number of additional new games have popped up chasing the money in college football. The Blue-Gray Game was cancelled in 2004 due to inability to secure a main sponsor. The game had been a Christmas Day tradition for seniors not participating in bowl games. The game tried to come back the last two years, but hurricanes ruined plans for new locations both times. This year it somewhat returns, with little connection to the original game, as the North-South All-Star classic. The Villiages Gridiron Classic was one of the first to crowd the scene with the premise of grabbing lower-tier recruits, but ended last year after a seven-year run. The Paradise Bowl, which became the Las Vegas All-American Classic, did the same, and it has now been cancelled, at least for this year, as the Senior Bowl has become the premier all-star game has left the more established Shrine Game (second tier) and Hula Bowl (third tier) settling for the next levels of prospects. The latest evolution is finding ways to include lower division prospects. The Cactus Bowl was an innovator for this, inviting just DII talent. However, it was cancelled, at least for this year. The HBCU All-Star Classic tried to follow this format for players from historically black colleges, but was cancelled after the first game in 2005. The Magnolia Grid-Iron Classic filled the Christmas and bowl-less team void in 2006 with a new game pitting D-IA competition against D-IAA (although it couldn't secure enough D-IA talent on the roster, so it filled with DII and NAIA players). It makes it to a second game this year. With the most media coverage, NFL front office members and scouts in attendance, the Senior Bowl now has a monopoly on the top talent. Many players may accept invitations to other games earlier, but rescind if invited to the Senior Bowl. Generally, the top senior prospects will only participate in the Senior Bowl, if any. Some of the first round locks will often not participate to avoid hurting themselves physically or their draft value with a poor performance. Some players with low or no draft value will accept more than one invite and barnstorm multiple games attempting to increase their value through more exposure. However, most of the games also involve a few days to a week of practice, which is just as important to their evaluation as the actual game. Because of this, most prospects only participate in one game, even though you may see them on multiple rosters prior to a game. Magnolia Grid-Iron Classic (Non-bowl D-IA v.
