I dunno why ... but I remember this time, like 1996, I forget how it worked ... but it was cheaper to buy a round trip ticket than one way ... somehow I ended up with an extra ticket with my name on it, from NYC to Tucson.

 

I was working for Playboy at the time, there on 5th Avenue, right across from Trump Tower. Anyway, because of the tourist traffic, there's lots of scam artists on the street, and pan-handler's that get very creative. There was a black woman, that would dress herself wearing trash bags ... as if you can't find free clothes all over the place in Manhattan on the street. She was convincing ... but after you saw her 3 or 4 times ... you knew, "She shoulda found some real clothes by now." I bet she makes 5 figures.

 

There was also this American Indian guy that had a sign that said, "I just need to raise the money to get home to Arizona." I really considered giving him my ticket. I knew it was a scam though, so out of concern that I might get in trouble for some kinda fraud or whatever ... I destroyed the ticket.

 

I wonder what he would have done, if I had offered to take him to the airport, and put him on a plane.
