wiffleball 4,790 Posted February 5, 2007 He's got one more year in his contract. Watching him, (not just one game), to me, the best analogy is Brian Griese. Both were decent in college, but just don't look like they have the mettle to be a top tier QB. The Broncos (Shanny) kept that dog around too long - just refusing to admit the obvious and hoping for the best. Mostly b/c they spent so much money on him, they didn't want to cut their losses. I see the same thing with the Gross Man. Adequate, but not soon going to be anything more than that. I could see Plummer* and few other journeymen getting their shot up there in Chi-Town if they want it. Wouldn't be too surprised to see Chicago do a 4-5th round QB shot. (*assuming, of course, Plummer doesn't go to H-town - which he will)
Strike 5,538 Posted February 5, 2007 Don't know whether he'll be a Bear next year but I'd be very very surprised if he was the starter. The funniest thing about this year is he made an extra million by taking 70% of the snaps in the last two games, 500k for the championship game and 500k for yesterdays debacle. itsbigmoni 1 Posted February 5, 2007 I thought for sure Griese was going to make an apperance in the game. I like a QB who trusts his WR's and lets them make plays, but grossman just throws it up there sometimes.
Scorpion 0 Posted February 5, 2007 I think you give a guy a shot who leads you to the SB. At least let him compete.... how many of us would LOVE to have a suckass QB take us to the SB!!!! (No offense to Matt Leinart) --Scorp
gocolts 300 Posted February 5, 2007 Griese should be their QB next year. Grossman got his chance this year and the Bears did pretty good. Just think if they had a decnt QB to go with the talent on offence they have in Mushin and Desmond Clark, who is the real deal at TE. Jones an Benson running. BB going after those deep balls. Add all that with that D and they may have something special. QB is what has killed the Bears for years, and Wreck Grossman doesn't appear to be the answer they are looking for at the QB position. They should just cut Wreck Grossman and bring someone in to compete with Griese for the job next year. I usually tend to think that a QB on a new team has some growing pains to go through, but Bress did an awesome job this year.
MDC 7,410 Posted February 5, 2007 He's a former first rounder and they got to the Super Bowl with him. I don't think they're going to cut Rex Grossman, but they probably will open a real competition between him and Griese, and unless he wins the job and plays well they'll likely let his contract expire after next season. I understand he was derailed in part by injuries early on but they've given Grossman four years to get it together and he's played about a year and a half of actually football and sucked for nearly all of it - enough is enough. If it does click for Rex it will probably be for some other team.
wiffleball 4,790 Posted February 5, 2007 If Chi-Town's looking to repeat, they could upgrade pretty fast just by picking up Bledsoe and drafting a stud WR/TE or two. Bledsoe's not a long-term solution, but he'd damn sure be an upgrade over the two mediocre guys they have now.
Let Da Big Dog Eat 40 Posted February 5, 2007 I think he'd look great in a Lydowns uni after next year. He's perfect for Martz system.
