Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day

Fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way

D!cking around on a piece of ground, in your home-town

Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Time is lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain

But you are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today

And then one day you'll find, 10 years have got behind you,

No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking

Racing around, to come up behind you again

And son it's the same, in a relative way

But you're older

Shorter of breath, and one day,

Closer to DEATH!

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day

Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way

KICKING around on a piece of ground in your home town

Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

TIRED of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain

You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you

No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking

Racing around to come up behind you again

The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older

Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter never seem to find the time

Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines

Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way

The time is gone, the song is over

Thought I'd something more to say

LMAO. Song is so epic that he forgot entire verses. :dunno:

As for the question, Time is all-time great, but not the greatest. I think I would take Comfortably Numb over it for top Pink Floyd song.

This has already been discussed. The greatest song of all-time is Sniff-n-the Tears_Driver's seat.

Your poll should have asked what song is second best.

Whenever I try to think of the greatest song ever I get a slew of great songs in my head:

Hotel California

Over the Hill and Far Away

Let It Be

Wish You Were Here

and so on....

But Ice Ice Baby always ends up on top! :shocking:

I knew it was "kicking" but I guess we all got stoned one day and thout "d!cking" was better.

"Tired" I did not know ... thought it was "Time is" ... thanks for the correction.

Home, home again

I like to be here, when I can

And when I come home, cold and tired

It's good to warm my bones beside the fire

Far away, across the field, the tolling of the iron bell

It calls the faithfull to their knees, to hear the softly spoken magic spell

No way ... Comfortably Numb isn't even top 3 on that ALBUM!

Here's my list, without mixing albums:

1. Fearless (Meddle)

2. Time (Dark Side of the Moon)

3. Pigs, 3 Different Ones (Animals)

4. Goodbye, Blue Sky (The Wall)

5. Shine on You Crazy Diamond (Wish You Were Here)

Look Mommy ... there's an aeroplane up in the sky

Oooooooo ooo ooo ooooh

Did you see the frightened ones

Did you hear the falling bombs

Did you ever wonder

Why we had to run for shelter

When the promise of a brave new world

Unfurled beneath a clear blue sky

Oooooooo ooo ooooo oooh

Did you see the frightened ones

Did you hear the falling bombs

The flames are all long gone

But the pain lingers on

Goodbye blue sky

Goodbye

blue sky

Goodbye

Goodbye

I was hazed with that Vanilla Ice song in college. It still makes me want to get violent.

And, as a trained singer, I like "God Bless America" ... but go ahead with your "Stars Bangled Banner" vato!

Jose can you see ....

Me too. I Googled the lyrics to see if that's what Waters actually wrote.

Yellow Ledbetter not far behind.

Unsealed, on a porch a letter sat.

Then you said "I wanna leave it again."

Once I saw her on a beach of weathered sand,

And on the sand I wanna leave it again.

On a weekend I wanna wish it all away.

And they called and I said that I want what I said,

And then I call out again...

And the reason, oughta' leave her calm, I know.

I said "I know what I wear, not a box or a bag."

Can you see them? Out on the porch, but they don't wave...

I see them 'round the front way...

And I know and I know I don't want to stay...

Make me cry...

I see... I don't know why there's something else...

I wanna drum it all away...

I said "I don't... I don't know whether was a box or a bag."

Can you see them? Out on the porch, but they don't wave...

I see them 'round the front way...

And I know, and I know, I don't wanna stay at all...

I don't wanna stay... I don't wanna stay...

The lyrics are intentionally ambiguous and Eddie Vedder made them up on the spot. He never sings it the same way in concert; but I guess it's about receiving a letter that somebody died in a war.

Um, Like a Rolling Stone? :D

Once upon a time you dressed so fine

You threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn't you?

People'd call, say, "Beware doll, you're bound to fall"

You thought they were all kiddin' you

You used to laugh about

Everybody that was hangin' out

Now you don't talk so loud

Now you don't seem so proud

About having to be scrounging for your next meal.

How does it feel

How does it feel

To be without a home

Like a complete unknown

Like a rolling stone?

You've gone to the finest school all right, Miss Lonely

But you know you only used to get juiced in it

And nobody has ever taught you how to live on the street

And now you find out you're gonna have to get used to it

You said you'd never compromise

With the mystery tramp, but now you realize

He's not selling any alibis

As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes

And ask him do you want to make a deal?

How does it feel

How does it feel

To be on your own

With no direction home

Like a complete unknown

Like a rolling stone?

You never turned around to see the frowns on the jugglers and the clowns

When they all come down and did tricks for you

You never understood that it ain't no good

You shouldn't let other people get your kicks for you

You used to ride on the chrome horse with your diplomat

Who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat

Ain't it hard when you discover that

He really wasn't where it's at

After he took from you everything he could steal.

How does it feel

How does it feel

To be on your own

With no direction home

Like a complete unknown

Like a rolling stone?

Princess on the steeple and all the pretty people

They're drinkin', thinkin' that they got it made

Exchanging all kinds of precious gifts and things

But you'd better lift your diamond ring, you'd better pawn it babe

You used to be so amused

At Napoleon in rags and the language that he used

Go to him now, he calls you, you can't refuse

When you got nothing, you got nothing to lose

You're invisible now, you got no secrets to conceal.

How does it feel

How does it feel

To be on your own

With no direction home

Like a complete unknown

Like a rolling stone?

You are entitled to your opinions (though most of the board would prefer less of them) but myself and most others would consider Comfortably Numb clearly ahead of the other tracks on The Wall (aside from the radio play tracks, I enjoy Nobody Home and One Of My Turns). Even moreso given it contains one of the top 5 (or better) guitar solos of all time.

:headbanger: I've got about 9 different versions of that song, popular belief is that it is about him receiving a letter about a killed family member (brother I believe) in the Gulf. I wish he would just come out and fockin say it, course it does add to the mystique not knowing though.

Danke Schoen, darling Danke Schoen.

Thank you for all the joy and pain.

Picture shows, second balcony, was the place we'd meet, second seat, go Dutch treat, you were sweet.

Danke Schoen, darling Danke Schoen.

Thank you for walks down lovers lane.

I can see, hearts carved on a tree, letters inter-twined, for all time, yours and mine, that was fine.

Danke Schoen, darling Danke Schoen.

Thank you for funny cards from Spain.

I recall, Central Park in fall, how you tore your dress, what a mess, I confess, that's not all.

Danke Schoen, darling Danke Schoen.

Thank you for seeing me again.

Though we go, on our seperate ways, still the memory stays, for always, my heart says, Danke Schoen.

Danke Schoen, Auf Wiedersehn, Danke Schoen.

Have a Cigar is my favorite Floyd song :dunno:

WYWH and Shine On... are the two best tracks on that album, but Have A Cigar is my favorite off of it.
