GettnHuge 2 Posted February 19, 2007 Fox Sports Radio's Jay Glazer is reporting that Norv Turner looks to be the new head coach in San Diego. Sounds like all that is left is to agree on a contract, but apparently that is who they have decided on.

Yer mom 2 Posted February 19, 2007 What a fockin joke, Norv Turner is a putz. SD's record drops dramatically next year because of this!
RicemanX 20 Posted February 19, 2007 Can't decide if this hurts the Niners or the Chargers more. Niners: Offense was just improving, now Alex Smith will be back to under-average. Chargers: Norv knows NOTHING about defense, the Chargers will need a great d-coordinator. He is also a huge passing offense guy, which might leave LT out of a few plays. And every play LT is not in...is a bad play.

GettnHuge 2 Posted February 19, 2007 well there are plenty of good Def coordinators who were interviewing for this and other jobs. They are out there.

GettnHuge 2 Posted February 19, 2007 any links? or just conjecture? http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/6485122 The San Diego Chargers are leaning toward a new head coach and it's the man everyone thought was going to be head coach of Dallas. FOXSports.com has learned that the Chargers are talking to Norv Turner as if they are looking to hire him as their head coach. Sources contend that Turner is leaning toward hiring Ted Cottrell, a long-time defensive NFL coach, to run the Chargers defense. Cottrell worked in the league office this past season but is one of the best minds in the league in running a 3-4 scheme. Oddly, earlier in the day based off of different information, Rex Ryan appeared to be the leading candidate to get the job. What or if anything happened to change that remains to be seen. -- General Manager A.J. Smith had talks with Turner late this evening, talks that sounded as if Turner was the team's choice. In fact, they even talked contract figures.

I won't believe it until I see the contract, LT calling me telling me that he saw the contract being signed, or Norv Turner, while signing the contract, calls his daughter to call me to tell me that he will be the new coach of the Chargers. Damn...4 glasses of rum and coke and I'm babbling?

Mack 1 6 Posted February 19, 2007 Norv...is also a huge passing offense guy.... Not sure where you get that from. It's documented history that RBs thrive under his tutelage....Emmitt, Stephen Davis, Lamont Jordan, Gore, to name some.
redtodd 7 Posted February 19, 2007 In his 1st two coaching stints, he did not have very good personal. Now, he has it. If he can't succeed with a 14-2 team, he should NEVER even be considered for another HC job after this.

If he can't succeed with a 14-2 team, he should NEVER even be considered for another HC job after this. he's been a head coach for like 9 seasons and only made the playoffs once. it's not his players fault, he sucks. Career regular season record: 58 - 82 - 1 (0.415) Career postseason record: 1 -
GettnHuge 2 Posted February 19, 2007 well if AJ Smith wants a puppet head coach, who is more qualified than a guy who was under Jerry Jones/Jimmy Johnson, Dan Snyder and Al Davis?
GobbleDog 996 Posted February 19, 2007 Shottenheimer goes 14-2 and gets fired. Just imagine how stupid San Diego is going to feel when Norv Turner doesn't even make the playoffs.
He Like Me 0 Posted February 19, 2007 Great move for San Diego. Norv has obviously proven himself as a HC. Perhaps this will help in my Colts repeating!

Big_Pete 0 Posted February 19, 2007 exactly, cause the chiefs/Broncos/chargers all have enough talent to contend for a championship each year, but c'mon.... Herm & Norv can't even hold Shanahans jock. THAT will seperate the teams right there. I still can't believe the Broncos lost to the 9ers which sealed our playoff doom

I still can't believe the Broncos lost to the 9ers which sealed our playoff doom Well, I would take Green or Rivers over Cutler right now, so that's one disadvantage for Denver, but overall yeah IMO the Broncos have easily the best shot at winning the division next year. Toro 1 Posted February 19, 2007 After the hiring of Norv Turner, the Houston Texans, in an effort to regain their position as the NFL team who has made the most bonehead decisions, has decided to forgo the NFL draft this year and will be traveling to Darfur to hold open tryouts to try and help it's offensive line. wiffleball 4,790 Posted February 19, 2007 Tough position for Turner. Pretty much anything less than going to the SuperBowl is damn near a failure. Not his fault - just stupid to fire a coach who gets you 14 wins, a division title and is in the top 5 in active coaches winning %.
cmh6476 1,025 Posted February 19, 2007 Herm Edwards accomplished in 1 year what D!ck Vermeil didn't in what 5? Herm had a lot of success in New York, and as he brings in the pieces he needs in KC, they're only going to continue to improve. KC is already in a better position than Denver, that's apparent after this season. Lose our QB for a majority of the season, lose our ProBowl starting LT to retirement, and we still end up in the playoss only to lose to the eventual World Champions. The Chiefs aren't they far off, quit kiddin yourselves fellas.
