Why does it seem like all of the good white NBA'ers

Yeah, there's a few exceptions, but I'm sitting there watching the all-star game and it dawned on me that it seems like if there's a white guy playing in the NBA, he's probably from some eastern european country. What they fock? Where's the big tall white guys in the U.S.?? I see 'em in March Madness, but then damn few of them make it to the NBA.

Because big whites overseas learn a much different style of basketball growing up than domestics do. If you're big (black or white) in the states you're taught to play with your back to the basket. Overseas it's a much more dynamic, face up game. Less physical and more spread and movement.

 

Of course this is a gross characterization, but I think it's fairly accurate in the landscape of modern basketball.

White kids grow up playing more sports than black kids. Black kids play mainly football or basketball, with a little baseball thrown in. White kids play hockey, tennis, lacrosse, all those rowing sports, baseball, things like that. But don't worry, you guys got Tyler Hansboro coming into the league soon.
