IndyTom 0 Posted February 19, 2007 For those of you have have worked in the restaurant community, I have always wondered: Why do those that take your reservation ask if you have eaten there before or not? If you are new - are you given special treatment and a better table so you will come back or stuck with Chaz, the Sunday Night rookie? Or do they put the "regulars" in the best areas with the veteran servers? Is it something else and I am just over analyzing? After making a reservation for dinner the other day, I hung up pondering their inquiry.
MDC 7,408 Posted February 19, 2007 If you're new the waiter sticks his d1ck in the soup.
GobbleDog 996 Posted February 19, 2007 If you were calling, maybe they were offering directions . ? Although I've heard hosteses say that when you walk in, so I don't know. Just making conversation?
wiffleball 4,790 Posted February 19, 2007 Related: Sounds like a Seinfeld rip off, but what really ticks me off is restaurants that TAKE reservations, but don't RESPECT them at all. I'd much rather they say "we have an open seating policy, first come, first served", then say "reservations preferred" , I make a reservation - and still have to wait 45 minutes. IndyTom 0 Posted February 19, 2007 I read online that the reason why they ask this is to enter your information into their computer to (among other things) track how often you eat there, as well as how much you spend. For CRM purposes, they can then send things in the mail to their best customers. It also always them to see if anyone is redflagged for "dine and dash".
