Whats your favorite movie of all time and why?

Recommended Posts

For me it is Frailty. It has a lot of plot twists and any movie that can keep me guessing till the end is great in my mind.

Also Pulp Fiction. This is one that you have to see 2 times just to catch whats going on but It has sooo many good actors in it and its a crassic.

When asked, I always hedge since it's hard to compare some movies with others, depending on the mood you enjoy certain movies more then others at different times but that being said, having to pick one, it's Bladerunner.

The movie works on so many levels from the incredible cinematagraphy to the very nuanced & ambigous story. You can watch this movie once and be entertained or watch it a dozen times and still have questions about what you saw, the meaning of certain shots.

I've always been a fan of post-modernism and in that respect Bladerunner easily is best post-modernist film I've ever watched. Ridley's Scott made two masterpieces in this vein, BR and Alien. Alien ranks as #2 on the AMI list of Sci-fi and BR #3. I'd flip that, but man what a run of incredible movies in a short span.

Caddyshack.

Caught a number of very funny people at the peak of their careers: Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Ted Knight. It's one of the most widely quoted movies of all time. Brilliant writing, memorable scenes, some nudity, and a floating Baby Ruth candy bar.

Thirty years later, the movie still holds up.

A River Runs Through It.

I am a big Norman Mclean fan, loved this particular book by him, like the period, love fly fishing, and enjoy the scenery and location (Montana). It's sort of everything I like in one movie.

for much of the same reasoning, I love the movie Miller's Crossing. It took me maybe 5-6 viewings to catch all the little nuances of the plot, mainly because the language is chock-full of Prohibition-era jargon, and the pace is furious. It's almost as if the directors (the Coen brothers) are daring you, the viewer, to keep up. And like almost all Coen brothers works, this flick has tremendous style to it.

Hard question. I loved Blade Runner, and Pulp Fiction has to be there for all of reasons mentioned above. But I would have to say my fav is Braveheart. Great cinematography, great acting, direction, soundtrack, etc. It gives you every emotion...excitement, fear, anger, love, pride, betrayal...everything. The action/fight scenes are incredible. Character development is superb. I think it is rare when every part of a movie is so good and it all comes together to form a perfect work, this is the one for me. I have seen it more than 20 times and I still get chills at the end and still watch every second of it. I am now wanting to watch it again and probably will tonight.

It's sort of a loaded question because a favorite movie, much like a favorite song, can change from week to week. This week my favorite movie is The Fugative starring Harrison Ford. I like the cat and mouse game him and Tommy Lee Jones play throughout the movie and the character of Dr. Richard Kimble is easy to root for. The scene where he changes the kid's medical orders incognito and saves his life is heartwarming; but perseverance and ingenuity are his most likable qualities.

Monty Python's The Holy Grail because it is funny as fock. Everytime I watch it, I find some subtle jokes that I missed previously. British humor is a bit confusing for me.

Funny you mention Braveheart as I read on MSNBC today saying it beating Apollo13 was one of the top five biggest upsets in Oscar history. Me, I think they made the right call there, Braveheart is the superior film.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High - I can totally relate to Brad...

Customer: Yes. This is not the best breakfast I ever ate and I want my money back..... See that sign? It says 100% Money Back Guarantee. Do you know the meaning of the word 'guarantee'? Do they teach you that here? Give me my money back.

Me: Mister, if you don't shut up, I'm gonna kick 100% of your ass.

Mostly because I LOVED the animation scene. It was so unexpected, so unbelievably well done, and so off the norm from what you see with many movies.

Wasn't the animation in Kill Bill 1?

If it was, then I have my Kill Bills mixed up.

And I think you're right, cause in #2 there is the final conclusion....so edit Vol #2 to Vol #1

Can't do it. I'm too much of a movie fan.

If you can break it down into catagories, I could maybe start. But one movie for all? I don't think so.

As others have said, it's too difficult to pick just one. If broken down into categories, it would be easier to pick one from each type.

I'll have to say that one of my favorites worth mentioning would be 'Sleeping With the Enemy'.

I'm a Julia Roberts fan anyways, but I think she particularly plays a fantastic role in this one. I like the whole plot of how she flees her abusive husband, moves to a great little town to start her life over and meets and falls in love with this great guy who is everything her hubby wasn't. Not a sappy love story, very suspenseful, fabulous ending!

also: they play Brown Eyed Girl in one of the scenes. That helps to make it pretty --->

Too many to choose from but a few of my favorites are Suspiria, Evil Dead, Master of the Flying Guillotine, Taxi Driver, the Big Lebowski and the Wizard of Oz.

I'm not a real big movie guy. I'd probably say When Harry Met Sally or maybe Return of the King.

I'll give you a list.

Godfather

Godfather II

Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrells

Matrix

Wyatt Earp

Band of Brothers(as a series)

Harry Potter(just about any of them)

Snatch

Shawkshank Redemption

Lord of the Rings (brilliantly filmed in sequence)

Braveheart

Gladiator

Boondock Saints

The Incredibles

There are so freaking many. This isn't even my whole list. This is off the top of my head.

This was the greatest telling of the emotions and actions of battle ever told. Great story, great casting, great special effects.

For my money, this was the best thing ever put on film.

My second favorite would be The Shootest. John Wayne's last film. John Wayne was playing a guy dying from cancer when he himself was dying from cancer.

Saving Private Ryan

Best war movie ever made, and probably always will be.

Why it didn't win the Academy Award over that gay-ass Shakespeare movie is a mystery and tragedy I'll never understand.

Good call, my favorite as well. That is, right after Band of Brothers (series). I only wish they hadn't cut a few scenes out of SPR. A few more action scenes never hurt anything.

That shiat is rigged for the transgender actor or lesbian actress or for something that has to do with

h0m0s. Or the director is phag. Or one charachter in the movie is a freak. It is so obvious it is down

right silly.

Breaking Away. I really don't know why, I just loved it as a kid, and still watch it anytime I catch it on.

Just yesterday, I read that Jackie Earle Haley (Moocher) was up for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award...saw a picture in the USA today...he had the creep dude look down pretty good.

AKA Kelly Leak

*Was not the picture in the link, btw.
