DrJ 0 Posted March 8, 2007 It's on their front page: The Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills have agreed to a trade that would send Willis McGahee to the Ravens in exchange for Baltimore's third- and seventh-round picks in this year's draft and third-round pick in 2008, ESPN.com's Michael Smith reports. mozzy84 0 Posted March 8, 2007 why the hell didn't chicago try and trade jones to them, they way overpaid for Mcgahee. Two 3rd's and a 7th His value goes up ff wise with this deal though, which I like why the hell didn't chicago try and trade jones to them, they way overpaid for Mcgahee. Two 3rd's and a 7th His value goes up ff wise with this deal though, which I like ok maybe two LATE 3'rd rounders isn't so bad the more I think about it. Probably better than a second rounder by itself.
gunnergip 0 Posted March 8, 2007 I think this is a great trade for both teams. The Bills will more than likely sign Dillon and/or Brown to be in a time share and now have a lot of draft picks in 2007 with an additional one '08. The Ravens do not have a lot of holes on their team and have filled the biggest one by getting a back who could easily shine in their power run offense. McGahee's fantasy stock rises and the RB pool gets deeper for 2007.

murf74 461 Posted March 8, 2007 What is two 3rd rounders equivalent to? I mean is that basically equal like a 2nd round value. For instance is it equal to send (2) 3rd rounders for (1) 2nd rounder? I know there is some kind of draft trading point scale. So let's just assume this year's 3rd round pick at Baltimore's current position and the same excact draft slot in 2008. Anybody. JoeBoxers43 0 Posted March 8, 2007 noone sees behind it though...if the bills dont sign anyone else this offseason, or if they do and the contract doesnt exceed that of mcgahee, they get a compensation pick for losing mcgahee, quite possibly a 3rd rounder

Belushi 9 Posted March 8, 2007 I'm not sure why everyone thinks Willis's fantasy value goes up. How is he in a better situation than with the Bills? The O-line is equal, if not worse. The offence sucks (could be worse than the Bills actually). The defence is better, but I'm not sure its a great deal better. Don't get the optimism.

The 2007 Baltimore offensive line is definitely better than the 2006 Buffalo Bills offensive line. It's not the elite run blocking line that Jamal used to run behind, but it should be solid. t.j 35 Posted March 8, 2007 If Baltimore dafts at the same spot next year, the 2 third rounders will be equal to the 3rd pick of the third round. Yeah, but by the charts, don't they generally consider next year's third rounders to be worth a fourth rounder this year? I bet by the charts the Bears got more for Jones than the Bills did for McGahee.

They will probably get one in this years draft for losing Taylor last year.

If it were worth the same as Baltimore's 3rd this season, they got the same as the Bears did...

The Moose 0 Posted March 8, 2007 Not a bad deal for the Bills. McGahee is a good player but he just doesn't fit in. The Bills could definitely get similar production from a RBBC by signing a guy like Chris Brown or Domanic Rhodes and complementing them with a mid-round selection. Now that Cleveland has Jamal Lewis, it's even possible Adrian Peterson slips a bit. None of the teams from picks 1-12 need a RB except the Texans, so there's a small chance he lands in Buffalo. That would kick ass. And if that doesn't work out, Marshawn Lynch will definitely be there at #12.

mozzy84 0 Posted March 8, 2007 contract info..... Hours after the trade was announced Thursday afternoon, ESPN.com learned McGahee will sign a new seven-year contract with Baltimore, the last two seasons of which are options years, that can be worth a total of $40.12 million. In terms of so-called "new money," the contract places McGahee among the NFL's five highest-paid running backs. McGahee will receive an initial signing bonus of $7.5 million and subsequent option bonuses of $6 million after the 2007 season and $1.5 million following the 2008 season, for a total of $15 million. The base salaries are $595,000 (2007), $605,000 ('08), $620,000 ('09), $3.6 million ('10), $6 million ('11), $6.5 million ('12) and $7.2 million ('13). Even without the option years at the end of the contract, the deal is worth $26.42 million over five years.

indybearsfan 0 Posted March 8, 2007 What does it say about trading in the NFL when Wes Welker is worth more than Willis McGahee? quite possibly the most sobering statistical point i've read on the nfl in a long time.

9-Route 0 Posted March 9, 2007 well, the best 3rd rdr (3.1) is worth 265pts on the draft value chart, with the 2nd ebst 3rd rdr worth 260pts. added together (525), they measure to the 2.5 draft pick (530pts). so it basically says mcgahee is worth a top5 2nd rdr. i think tjones was dealt for a 2nd rdr this yr, which is the jets pick, which was a playoff team, which was 25th pick, which means 2.25=330pts. so, numerically, the ravens got more pt value; furthermore, is the the 57th player in a draft that much more better than the 69th and 70th (whatever their future draft position will be) best players? bottomline: mcgahee proved he was a franchise back with solid 1100-1200yd seasons status post his knee injury, and was warranted starter hb $$$; thus, they let him go and avoided paying that $$, as they did with clements.
