rallo 138 Posted March 19, 2007 i always like the solo from killer queen about 1:22 and some of this trippin on a hole in a paper heart at about 1:51 then system of a down has at about 1:55 i mean... i guess none of these are your classic 2-5 minute classics like free bird or stairway... but i kinda dig em... if you mean like "classic" such as that i'd have to say all along the watchtower by jimi

Our guitar player could play the whole thing at age 16). Eddie - 5150 (one of my fav songs of all time) Alter Bridge - One Day Remains
WahooJim 4 Posted March 19, 2007 U.F.O. Love To Love Right band, right guitarist, wrong song. "Rock Bottom" holds the top spot here. Love to Love is a great tune though. Underappreciated band. #2 for me would be a tie between two Frank Marino solos, "Something's Coming our Way" off of What's Next and Poppy off his second live album. kozmiq 70 Posted March 19, 2007 I don't have time to read these in case it's been mentioned but there's a 2 plus minute section of Let It Rain starting at the 2:30 point where Clapton plays 3 different guitars (overdub) that's hard to beat. JMHFO

mayhem39 3 Posted August 8, 2007 I can't say it's my favorite...but it's right up there. For you so-called "Satch" fans.....here's one most people have never heard. It's got a great groove to it, and it's awesome live. Satch rocks...what can I say. It's worth the 8mins. Man, that dude is awesome...
shake_a_leg 0 Posted August 9, 2007 Personally, I think the solo in RHCPs "Dani California" is incredible. Short and too the point but leaves you wanting more. Just like me.

Guest _my_2_cents_ Posted August 9, 2007 It's unpossible to pick just one. One that comes to mind is The Who, in the song "Join Together". At exactly 1 minute in, Pete Townshend plays the perfect 30 second solo. It's concise, raw and perfect for that moment in the song. It's a masterful little 30 seconds. Don't get me wrong - I'm not a Who fanatic. My tastes are more like that guy who won that cool album draft topic on here some time ago, ...blues, jazz, metal, classical, bluegrass, R&B and everything in between. But that one solo in that one song is just perfect. If you have Who's Next or one of the compilations laying around, put it on and check it out.

vuduchile 1,947 Posted August 9, 2007 My top 5: Voodoo Chile - Hendrix - Mind blowing tone for it's time, and it still holds up. Hotel California - Two guitars, incredible bends, far more to this one than your average blues based solo. Do you feel like we do - The second lead break in the song, right before the talk box part. Sweet Child O Mine - Excellent use of the Wah pedal really makes this solo scream. Little Wing (SRV) - Best cover tune of all time. The entire song is a solo, and the tones are unbelievable. BLS 314 Posted August 9, 2007 OK...it's Van Halen pop, but IMO this album was when Eddie had finally mastered his guitar. It was fluid, effortless, and wasn't just speed and technicality. He began to feel it more (to me), and this solo contains almost all of his signature licks and tricks. Fast foward (if you must) to 2:40. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0jP4HY1GiY Another Van Hagar song....it's live...but Eddie is just awesome in this whole video. The original video "live without a net" has some fantastic guitar on it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZTYYusUl6M God, Sammy is a ######.

BLS 314 Posted August 9, 2007 This is why I have allways liked Van Hagar better then Van Halen. Eddie seemed to really elevate his playing, and looked like he was having a great time with Sammy. If you go back to 1984 and listen to the whole album you can tell he really was just starting to reach the point of mastery. His work on that album is SICK. In the past I tried to learn music from tablature, and I bought 1984, VH II, and VH I. I and II were both obviously tough, and getting down his picking was what was SO hard. On 1984, I looked at the tab like it was written in freaking russian. Sh1t was backwards and sh!t. It was so focked up, I tried Drop Dead Legs for about 2 weeks, and never got past the first verse. It's insane how hard it is...and then you listen to him play it like it ain't sh!t. That's when I came to the realization that regardless of how long my hair was...I was never gonna be Eddie.
