Vikings4ever 550 Posted April 29, 2007 Adrian Peterson Sydney Rice Marcus McCauley Vikings went in lacking playmakers on the offense. Peterson is, arguably, the biggest one in the draft, even though RB wasn't a position of need. Rice is a big target with good hands and decent speed. McCauley gives some good depth at CB, and has really good potential. I give the Vikes a B+ today.

kevinkass310 0 Posted April 29, 2007 What are the Packers thinking or not thinking. Do they really even want Favre to come back this year. No offensive weapons. Why didnt they get MOSS. Ted Thompson likes quantity over quality. They did nothing in free agency. Who the hell is the running back they got.All the money they have and got know replacement for Ahman Green and dont tell me Morency is the answer. They should of just vetoed their picks today. Im from Cleveland live in C-town but for the first time in along time im not a BROWNS hater they showed up today. The PACK could of had Mcgahee, Henry, MOSS, D.JAX, J.Lewis, M.Turner or someone with value and they got ###### spent NO money in free agency this is god damn rediculous. Pittman from OSU would of been better then the bum they drafted
The Moose 0 Posted April 29, 2007 Bills: Marshawn Lynch - Buffalo had a huge hole at RB with McGahee gone, and this guy is by far the 2nd-best RB and is definitely an every-down back. GB would have taken him at #16 if the Bills didn't get to him first, so good value as well. Paul Posluszny - Buffalo also had a huge hole at LB with Spikes and Fletcher out. Poz is a 1st-round talent and will contribute immediately. He will be an impact player as a rookie. Trent Edwards - Depth at QB is an issue with Holcomb gone (I see a pattern here). Trent Edwards easily could have gone at the top of Round 2, and his slip to the bottom of Round 3 made him irresistible. I could see him competing for a job this season, even. Meglamaniac 497 Posted April 29, 2007 Jags Day one Grade: B+ Getting Nelson at 21 and gaining a 2nd 3rd round pick was solid, he should be able to step right in and take over for the loss of D Grant. In round two they get the ILB Durant, who was a 3 year starter at Hampton, http://www.hamptonpirates.com/roster.asp?p...=49&sport=1, pretty good resume In round 3 they get a burner at WR in Walker who ran a 4.35 and had 90 cathes his senior year after returning from a torn ACL the year before. They also turned the other 3rd round pick aquired from the Denver trade into several day two picks by give it to Baltimore. Day two the Jags have 10, yes 10 picks, should be a interesting day. cmh6476 1,025 Posted April 29, 2007 I like the picks, as far as filling positions by need. As far as the Chiefs job of evaluating talent, I'll wait and reserve judgment until I see these guys play. I'll give them a B so far at this point though

Scorpion 0 Posted April 29, 2007 Arizona Cardinals: L. Brown OT PSU I like this pick. It was a little reach, but not so much that I'm concerned. There will be issues signing him, but the Cards needed the OT.... anyone else here would have been a reach. They didn't need Peterson..... Alan Branch DT Michigan.... moved up and gave up a 4th rounder. I heard there were worries about some stress fractures, but this guy will plug up the middle of a 3-4 defense. Buster Davis ILB FSU. The guy is short with a great motor... I can deal with that. Overall, pretty happy. I'm a little pissed that SF moved up and got Staley. I was hoping he'd drop and the Cards could get 2 OT..... oh well.... I won't cancel my tickets! --Scorp
lambert58 71 Posted April 29, 2007 Steelers first two picks were greta.. Simmons was a need position. One of the best Linebackers on the board. Woodley will fit in nicely in the 3-4. Should make a big impact coming off of the edge. Spaeth was a head-scratcher in the third. Heath Miller is vastly underused by the Steelers and to pick another tight end is dumbfounding. Some o-line depth or a corner would have been a better choice. Grade B.

DocNiner 70 Posted April 29, 2007 1.11(11)- LB Patrick (what you talkin' 'bout)Willis. I would have been happy with Carriker as well but Willis is no doubt the best LB in the draft and one of the top defensive players in the class of '07. Don't know much about the 3-4 def.SF will use but if Willis plays inside his value will drop some.I think OLB usually produces the best in a 3-4 D. Regardless of where he plays he's still an impact player and will contribute immediately. The Niners defense was horrendous last year and I think they've taken steps to correct it through the draft and FA. 1.28(28)- OT Joe Staley- I was a little upset by the Niners giving up a 2008 first round pick to move up and get this guy but they got another 1st rounder back later. Talent on the offensive side of the ball won't matter much if you don't have a good O-line who can rush/pass block. The O-line surely needed some attention in the draft with J.Jennings 30yrs. old and Larry Allen(36) receiving soc. security checks in addtion to his pay.Staley was the 3rd O-lineman taken yesterday so hopefully he'll protect Smith for years to come. 3.12(76)- WR Jason Hill- With a dee pclass of receivers this year Hill was a decent pick.Since the 49ers have added Darrell Jackson from Seattle, Ashley Lelie from the Falcons and have Arnaz Battle on the roster that should give Jason plenty of time to develop without being forced to contribute right away. He surely isn't a#1 go-to- guy at this point and whether he ever will be, well we'll just have to wait and see. Lots of top athletes at their positions have come in rounds other than the first in past drafts. 3.34(97)(Comp.pick)- DE Ray McDonald- defensive end is definitely a position that needed addressed. Especially since Bryant Young is 35. I expect the Niners to add another DE on day two. I really like what SF has done on the defensive side of the ball in FA and the draft. Overall I'm very pleased with the players the 49ers drafted on day one. In the beginning I wasn't a big Mike Nolan fan but I must admit he's winning me over. I think he has the team headed in the right direction and I think he'll continue to add players to the San Francisco organization that will put the team back to being one of the elite teams in the NFL. After reading foghorn leghorn's post I have to agree that by adding DJax for a 4th rounder that bumps the draft grade up to a B+. I also considered day 2's picks as well.Just didn't post them. 1st Day Grade- B+
Barnaby Wilde 0 Posted April 29, 2007 The Giants did not excite me with their picks, but I think they filled needs and did okay for themselves. As far as the 49ers, I love their draft so far and with 4 picks in round 4, they can make great strides and can maybe get some great value.
montana 89 Posted April 29, 2007 The Cleveland Browns: Grade A Joe Thomas OT Wisc. Big guy, excellent blocker & can get down field well enuff to help out Lewis throwing those down the field blocks every NFL team looks for. Good pass blocker as well, started 3 years at Wisc. so he knows how to play in the cold/snow of cleveland. clevelands OL is going to be pretty good this year with this addition. Brady Quinn QB ND I was surprised when Clev. passed on him @ the 3 spot....but I like where they ended up landing him. He maybe a little overrated IMO, but I do think he has the abilites to have success. His biggest knock was that he couldn't win the BIG game....didnt we say that about Peyton? Now i'm not gonna say he's peyton jr. - but i'm willing to give the guy a chance. overall, i'm not a quinn fan, but given where they landed him (even though it may have cost us the farm next year) i'm pretty happy with this. he does have the size & i think he has the "mind", but can he be the leader this team needs him to be? Eric Wright CB UNLV okay, so we know he had some off the field problems in 2005 while at USC. But so far, he has managed to stay "clean" of any police encounters since. Hopefully he has learned something from this? if he had stayed outta trouble & continued playing for USC, he woulda been a 1st rounder for sure. he has speed, but his height is a bit of a concern. to be honest, i really dont know much about the guy (never seen him play) but i think he was a very good value pick in the middle 2nd round - at least from everything i've read online last night. **Overall, i'm happy with the browns landing 2 of the top 3-4 players (according to all daft projections) & landing a CB that if had stayed outta trouble coulda been another 1st rounder. So basically, they got 3 1st rounders in one day - can any one complain about that at this point? All of these picks should be able to step in & make our team instantly better than last year - isn't that the point of the draft to begin with? Good job CLEVELAND - you walked away from day one being the WINNER!**

Walter34 3 Posted April 29, 2007 #31 - TE - Olsen. Really like the pick. Des was fine, but this is a legit TE that could be a probowler down the road. #37 - Trade - Would of been nice to get a good player here and there were alot of great picks available for the oline, but got tremendous trade value in getting SD's late 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 3rd next year. #62 - DE - Dan Bezuin. Dont know him but he appears to be a good fit for the Bears D and a playmaker. Could mean that Ogunleye will be a cap casualty next off season #93 - RB - Garrett Wolfe - seems early but a 3rd down change of pace back that can catch was a need. Needed RB depth with TJ gone. Kevin Faulk type of player. #94 - LB - Micheal Okwo - never heard of him before yesterday, but LB depth was an obvious need Day 2: 4 130 5 167 5 168 7 221 7 241 Overall, a very good day for a team picking so late. The non trade of Briggs is just as much the story here. The drama and soap opera will continue through the summer. Of the 5 remaining picks, I would like to see 2 Olineman, DT, S and CB in no particular order.

CurleyQ 0 Posted April 29, 2007 I agree with Walter's assessment on Chicago's draft. Thought that they could have used other depth then a DE in the 2nd, but I have learned to trust Angelo's judgement a little more than I used to, after last year. They robbed San Diego in that deal, so hopefully they can make those extra picks count. Just an observation: From the little I read about players and team needs, I think San Francisco has had an awesome draft so far.

Henwah 1 Posted April 29, 2007 Giants: C+ Love the Ross pick, I was OK with either him or Revis. While I like Smith and Alford, I'm interested to see just who they think is going to play on the OL this year. In my opinion, if you weren't going to make moves to address that, and take the top talent on your board, then you may as well roll the dice in the 3rd for Mike Bush and put him on the bench for a year, a la Willis Mcgahee. Edit: B- Love the Deossie pick, and if Whimper is better than people think, then they got good value throughout.

cmh6476 1,025 Posted April 29, 2007 seems like the chiefs finally went after best athlete available this year, as oppossed to drafting for need. I have no idea how accurate their draft board was, but hopefully they found some guys that contribute.
shovelheadt 71 Posted April 29, 2007 I'll give the Bengals a C+ with a possibility of a B. DB Leon Hall - Very good pick and they were very fortunate for him to fall to them at 18. Arguably one of the better young DB duos now with him and Joseph. RB Kenny Irons - once the Michigan defensive players flew off the board in front of them, it became a need pick. Bengals haven't had a run over 20 yards in 37 games now. Chris Perry was supposed to be that guy, but it's looking like another PUP visit for him this year. **Ahmad Brooks** - they lost their 3rd round pick this year by grabbing Brooks in last year's sup draft. If he continues to progress and produce like he did last year...well worth a 3rd rounder.

I know Grimm and the coaches liked Brown comparable or more than Thomas, but from a pure value pick, he was a reach at that point. Branch is the wildcard. Is he top-10 potential as thought until recently? Also, it seems like the new staff is ramming a 3-4 down a team which doesn't have the personnel for it. We lack LB depth (although I like the Davis pick for that). And if Branch is the answer for the middle of a 3-4, what happens to Dockett? He is an excellent DT and needs to be on the field. And they gave up a 4th to get Branch, when there was an obvious need to stockpile picks if anything. Since your post, they drafted David Breaston. If he turns into an elite returner, this is great value. He also is a good slot guy in 4WR and maybe some 3WR sets. I like the pick. As with all things draft, only time will tell. But I give it a C+.
