wiffleball 4,790 Posted June 21, 2007 Seriously, with the things that have gone on, and America's reaction to them, I'm wondering if we really are pretty close to this. This isn't a Bush-bashing excercise, just an analysis of where we're at. Bush does these 'signing statements' that completely contradict any law he doesn't like The majority of Americans are for stem cell funding, but Bush says HE won't allow it. The majority of Americans want us out of Iraq.... FISA laws are inconvenient? He just breaks them. Records retention laws are inconvenient - Ignore them. bipartisan 911 commission asks you to testify - refuse Federal law requires revealings all Vice-Presidential visitors? ignore it. Congress asks for Energy Commission members and notes - Ignore it. Executive privledge. ...and on and on and on.... Whether you like him or not, any thoughtful analysis will tell you that this President has significantly changed the role of the Presidency and its view on "Executive Privledge". And the reaction from most people these days is usually a take on "we elected him, whaddya gonna do?" In the past, our Presidents by and large seemed to be pretty well guided by the will of the American people, (maybe too much - but at least it was a Democracy) now it seems like it's just the opposite. This President has said repeatedly in various ways that he doesn't care about the will of the American people or Congress - if he thinks his way is best, that's the way it's going to happen. So now, once we elect a guy, he gets carte blanche? - Which, when you think of it, really is a lot like Hugo Chaves - a Democratically Elected Dictator. Not trying to pick a fight Regardless of your view of this Administration, isn't just the general concept of "we elected him, he can do whatever he wants regardless of existing laws or majority will" (regardless of who's in office) pretty much a tacit acceptance of a temporary dictatorship? MDC 7,407 Posted June 21, 2007 Even moreso than the Iraq war, what bothers me most about this administration is that they routinely break the law and nobody seems to hold them accountable or care. It's galling to me that the President of the United States would repeatedly and knowingly break the law and violate the Constitution he's sworn to uphold, a people who call themselves "conservatives" just shrug and don't care. We don't hold our elected officials to any standards anymore.
Franknbeans 46 Posted June 21, 2007 Bush is even on record as saying he would prefer a dictatorship Clip He didn't say prefer but you get the gist

Well, they (including Dems) don't complain anymore because they have the majority now, and they realize that Bush sets the precedence, and they can from here on out abuse that power as well. What Bush is doing is not much different than what Hitler did. He started a war on a lie. I'm NOT comparing Bush to Hitler....but there is a similarity. Bush and the United States have KILLED 650,000 Iraqi's. Soldiers and Civilians. That's alot of dead people for a lie. And now we 'can't' leave because the whole place would be a mess. Nice work Dikk. In my mind, he should be tried for war crimes. It's unbelievable.

Boz/BoFan 0 Posted June 21, 2007 So you are saying the minority shouldnt have a say so? Silly me, I kinda thought thats what the whole "constitution" thingy and its amendments were all about. I take it you are 100% against gay marriage then as they only make up 5% of the votes.

Alrighty, would you chickenhawk aliases get your roles straight? Bozo's supposed to be the dimmest one of the crew! "F U N D I N G" So you are saying the minority shouldnt have a say so? We can always count on Bo to post something wherein only he knows what the hell he's talking about. It's like he's responding to threads from a week ago where he just now figured out what he wants to say. I fully expect sometime next week in the middle of God Knows What thread he'll tell me Citizen Kane was the best movie ever.
Recliner Pilot 61 Posted June 21, 2007 Alrighty, would you chickenhawk aliases get your roles straight? Bozo's supposed to be the dimmest one of the crew! "F U N D I N G" It would seem you take first prize as the dimmest. There is a shatload of funding for stem cell research going on, mostly private, but some by the govt. Bush isn't funding any new strains of stem cells. Those already in the pipeline are being used. So either you are a blatant liar, or the winner of the dimmest Demwit contest. And I'm just picking on you for ONE of your lies.
wiffleball 4,790 Posted June 21, 2007 Stem cell research has been outlawed??? Who's the lying axxbag? Or are you just too stupid to read? As everybody's pointed out. And yes, everybody BUT you knows we're talking about GOVERNMENT funding. Everybody knows the issue and doesn't need to have it spelled out to them, but you. So, are you deliberately obtuse, or just really stupid??

Everybody knows the issue and doesn't need to have it spelled out to them, but you. So, are you deliberately obtuse, or just really stupid?? We all know the big awesome govt. makes the best cars, food, houses, suits, electronics etc etc, I think its only rational for them to get into stem cell research and that this entire argument is not a red herring at all. Its almost like clockwork, when election time comes around somehow the ole "gays in the military" ( a pressing issue ) pops up, class warfare pops up, and the latest piece of absolutely manufactured bullsh!t...stem cells. Do you really think we buy this sh!t? Come on man.

Everybody knows the issue and doesn't need to have it spelled out to them, but you. So, are you deliberately obtuse, or just really stupid?? Um, when you make this idiotic claim: "The majority of Americans are for stem cell funding, but Bush says HE won't allow it." You make it sound as if Bush has outlawed funding. Hence my QUESTION (I guess you missed the multiple question marks after it). In any event, you are either intentionally lying, or too focking stupid to know millions are being spent on stem cell research, both private and by the gubmint. So, even if the only issue is GOVERNMENT funding you are still either lying or an idiot. Which is it?
Savage Beast 1 Posted June 22, 2007 The U.S.A. is a REPUBLIC, not a Democracy. Did nobody in the U.S. public education system ever study history and government? I am beginning to think I am the only one who ever did. Heck, all I ever hear these days is Democracy this and Democracy that, but the U.S.A. is not a Democracy at all? Savage Beast 1 Posted June 22, 2007 More specifically, a Representative Republic. Exactly. A Democracy is majority rules system of government, a Republic is a government that is ruled by it's laws. A majority rules Democracy system means that the minorities have no representation, so if you are a minority, you don't want to live in a Democracy, you will have no governmantal representation or say.
