Hank Aaron used Steroids

Recommended Posts

The San Francisco Chronicle, in a May 3rd 2005 article quoted former Major League pitcher Tom House of the Atlanta Braves as saying that steroids were rampant in the game in the late '60s and throughout the '70s.

"I actually think that the game is cleaner today than when I was playing,'' says former major league pitcher Tom House, who pitched in the 1970s and was later Nolan Ryan's pitching coach. House says that he used steroids because "In my case, I was doing everything I could just to survive, but the steroid use ended up backfiring on him....Every generation of players -- the '20s, '30s, '40s on up -- everybody was looking for a way to get the most out of their bodies, and they took whatever they possibly could. It was almost expected. . . "

House, perhaps best known for catching Hank Aaron's 715th home run ball in 1974 in the Atlanta Braves bullpen, said he and several teammates used amphetamines, human growth hormone and 'whatever steroid' they could find in order to keep up with the competition.

Hank Aaron’s homerun totals may not arouse suspision to the casual observer, but when you look at the rate he hit his homeruns, and at what age he hit them, they suddenly become very dubious. At age 40 in his 23rd season, Aaron had his highest HR percentage of his entire career. He also led the majors in HR percentage for three years straight as a 38, 39, and 40 year old. This is quite the accomplishment for someone who should be declining in power rather than increasing in performance as they age. Coincidentally, two of Aaron’s team mates had huge spikes in power that year as well. Davy Johnson and Darrell Evans both went from hitting HR totals in the teens to 41 and 43 respectively only to drop in 1974.

No wonder he won't show up to watch Barry Break his record, he's afraid he might trip off a steroid detector.

I guess the Bonds apologists got tired of claiming his steroid use was okay, since others hitters of his generation also took them. Now they want to try to tarnish the great Aaron's legacy.

Classy. Very classy. :bench:

Proof Aaron didn't cheat?

Proof Arod didn't cheat?

Face it noobie, baseball will forever be under a cloud of suspicion because pro sports athletes have been cheating since the beginning of time. You and all the Bonds haters are laughable.

You forget that the biggest thing is that there is proof that Bonds did cheat. 'nuff said.

No. You need to face it, Edger. The only people who want to make a blanket statement and say that any power hitter in baseball history has cheated are the Bonds-people trying to lessen the fact that he is a cheating scumbag.

Not every power hitter of all-time is under suspicion. That's only a convenient excuse for Bonds cheating.

Bonds has admitted to steroid use in the past, claiming he didn't know there were steroids in the substances he used.

Here is where I deviate from your thinking. Did you see how few votes Mark McGwire got for the HOF this year? That lack of votes was based on assumption, not fact. Suspicion tainted that vote and I really believe that once people allow their suspicions to sway their opinions on players, all players should be held to the same standard. Did you know that the vast majority of players who have been caught using steroids have been pitchers? Might as well add Clemens and Maddox to the suspect list as well.

Face it...it is not up to us to prove those 2 did not cheat....not the point at all.

Bonds, despite your denial, did admit to using in the leaked grand jury testimony. Despite you putting your head in the sand...that did happen.

I think Bonds did steroids.

What do you have to say next?

Well, what I have to say is.....just because your favorite player cheated, doesn't make everyone else a suspect. Sorry, but that's the way it is. Find a different defense.

Then why do you get so upset when people say that he did? Why do you continue to defend him by constantly deflecting to what other people may have done eventhough you have no proof?

Is it just because you are the asstard that we all know you are?

regardless, this is why, hands down, no further questions, babe was, is, and always will be the greatest baseball player of all time. that guy abused himself--not with roids, but with booze, hot dogs, cigars, and women. and he still hit 714 home runs.

if he'd have juiced like these idiots today he'd have hit 1000+ home runs. easily.

Not to mention live balls, hitter friendly parks, 162 game seasons, being a batter his entire career, etc.

Ruth was so far ahead of his peers it's not funny. He was hitting more home runs than entire teams, more than once more than every other team in the league, I believe.
