NewbieJr 541 Posted August 2, 2007 My wife's best friend's husband is going to get the laser eye surgery. They gave him a price when he called, so he made an appopintment for a consultation. After discussing pricing (which was about $5000 for both eyes), they told him that for an extra $1000, he could get high definition. My wife told me this and I thought it sounded ridiculous. Anyone have any knowledge of this?
wiffleball 4,790 Posted August 2, 2007 Sounds like a major league scam. How much if they add in Tivo Vision??
KSB2424 3,148 Posted August 2, 2007 I think the technical term for it is CustomVue Lasik. Some people call it HD as an example of how good you will see, especially at night. It is not really called HD, that is just a "nickname".
Me_2006 14 Posted August 2, 2007 Even if it's legit, why would you WANT HD vision? I mean, if you're used to seeing the world the way it is, God knows what HD would look like. It could drive you insane. Plus, it's cheaper to get an HDTV, that's the only place HD vision really matters anyway. Unless it's X-ray vision. Then, go for it! Mungwater 597 Posted August 2, 2007 I have had the custom view lasik about two years ago, mine cost 2300 total for both eyes with my insurance. Sounds like a good deal, change the name to "HD" and charge double..
KSB2424 3,148 Posted August 2, 2007 For $5000 I'd tell them to make me see the best you can. When did lasix become "pretty-good' eyesight? My ex old lady used to work at a Lasik office. I got this tidbit off her companies website: How does Advanced CustomVue™ individualized laser vision correction differ from standard LASIK? The Advanced CustomVue™ procedure uses Wavescan™ technology to measure the unique imperfections in your eye 25 times more precisely than the measurement method used in standard LASIK. The Wavescan™ System creates a digital map of your eye, which is as unique as your fingerprint. Your surgeon then transfers this precise data directly to a VISXT laser, where it is used to custom tailor your individualized treatment. At least you don't have to go out and buy some HDMI cables
davebg 0 Posted August 2, 2007 Tell them to use generic instead of Monster cables. That ought to save you a few bucks.
TheNewGirl 1,489 Posted August 2, 2007 Not everyone needs CustomVue lasik...if your friend doesn't really need it, it sounds like a ripoff. I am too chicken ###### to get lasik. I would really like to though, I imagine one day I will.
