Beer does not taste good. The only reason people drink it is because of how it makes them feel, both physically, emotionally, and socially mostly. (Despite how beer lovers will respond to this post). Good times with friends and a plethora of beer commercials showing how much fun it is to drink have convinced most people how great beer tastes..e.g. less filling..TASTES GREAT.

Drink to get a buzz --> get drunk, or don't bother. I'd suggest Miller Lite and make sure it's ice cold and bottled...drink one right after the other until your buzzing and keep that buzz as long as you can. HTH

So how do you explain places like Germany, where they drunk beer for millenia and often times just have one or two with a meal (instead of drinking to get drunk)?

From wikipedia for TASTE:

Bitterness

The bitter taste is perceived by many to be unpleasant, sharp, or disagreeable. Common bitter foods and beverages include coffee, unsweetened chocolate, bitter melon, beer, uncured olives, citrus peel, many plants in the Brassicaceae family, dandelion greens and escarole. Quinine is also known for its bitter taste and is found in tonic water. The most bitter substance known is the synthetic chemical denatonium. It is used as an aversive agent that is added to toxic substances to prevent accidental ingestion. This was discovered 1958 during research on Lignocaine, a local anesthetic, by Macfarlan Smith of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Research has shown that TAS2Rs (taste receptors, type 2) such as TAS2R38 coupled to the G protein gustducin are responsible for the human ability to taste bitter substances. They are identified not only by their ability to taste for certain "bitter" ligands, but also by the morphology of the receptor itself (surface bound, monomeric).[18] Researchers use two synthetic substances, phenylthiocarbamide (PTC) and 6-n-propylthiouracil (PROP) to study the genetics of bitter perception. These two substances taste bitter to some people, but are virtually tasteless to others. Among the tasters, some are so-called "supertasters" to whom PTC and PROP are extremely bitter. This genetic variation in the ability to taste a substance has been a source of great interest to those who study genetics. In addition, it is of interest to those who study evolution since PTC-tasting is associated with the ability to taste numerous natural bitter compounds, a large number of which are known to be toxic.

Makes me think of those Keystone Light commercials: Bitter Beer face.

so wiki says beer is bitter. Since wiki said it I must really not enjoy the taste of coffee and beer.

BTW I drink my coffee black so I can taste the coffee - not the masks like cream and sugar. I maybe wrong about that too

:dunno: Didn't know beer drinking was so complicate. Like i said, i have only drank cheap keg beer and cheap stuff like Busch lite and keystone lite. Yes, ususally is was COLD and FREE. However, as my drinking experience has progressed, i am finding myself frustrated chugging this nasty shat and it takes a good 10+ beers to get me mildly drunk. That is why whenever i see hard liquor i go for it, that cheap beer is perfectly fine to drink....if you are already drunk and can't taste the cat-pissiness of it.

Also, even though Winsor is a big drinking town, i don't think i will find those rare imported ales. I was more asking what is the best beer i would find at a common bar or something like that. It looks like i am buying a Labatts Blue, Guiness, or Molson....more than likely all 3 of them. I really don't plan on getting sh1tfaced, i just want to try some new, better quality beers while i am there. Also, with those club suggestions, keep in mind i will be going with my dad. My bday present is a night of gambling/drinking at Winsor(so, the beer will probably be free), plus 100 bucks to gamble with :ninja:

Off topic, but, anyone play at the no limit poker tables at Winsor? My buddy says i should stick with limit because the NL players at Winsor don't care about money and it is tough to play if you do care about money basically. So, i will probably take that hundo to a 3/6 table and see what i can do with it.

A lot of the time limit is just as bad, you got guys who don't care about money and refuse to fold no matter what, so it comes to the who gets lucky or the best hand every time. It;s hard to bluff or just in general to get some of those people out when limit is 3/6, they just keep throwing in money to see the river.

Just had a bomber of this last night :shocking:

Gotta love the Heogaarden...

You should give some of the domestic breweries a shot- Victory, Weyerbacher, Allagash and Avery's all have some superb styles out. Seeing you are from CO. - go get some Avery's "Collaboration not Litigation".

and, I've got to put a vote in there for Guinness.

Some places serve sh!tty Guinness but if you get a place with good/clean taps, it really is nice beer, it's "happy" beer. The Guinness "buzz" is always a happy buzz for me and most of those who drink Guinness (unlike the angry/violent/or introverted buzz that some hard alcohols can give).

The bottled Guinness is pretty good now too.

Though the bottles are only 11.5 oz, they really did a nice job with that "gas rocket" gadget. It works.

Best German Beer I've ever had?

Dom Kolsch

or

Bitburger Pils

Kolsh brewed beers are a must try for any beer fan.

yeah.... i've tried a decent amount of colorado's micros.... i am not a huge fan of domestic bier. some that appeal to me:

new belgium (think fat tire is overrated...like a lot of their others)

avery

allagash

bluemoon

gordon biersch

north coast

ommegang

rogue

widmer

when i hit up brew pubs, it's not like i'm going for a chardonnay.... i like trying local bier, but when given a choice...prefer beglian and german products much more

That is why i don't like playing limit, but, my friend said people there play NL the same way they play limit, it they will not fold no matter what cause they don't care about money. Then they catch a straight or a flush on the river and your focked. However, he said soaring eagle is a great place to play NL, so, i will try it there instead probably. I don't know, i might give NL a shot, it just takes more money and is a huge risk with that extra cash...
