FeelingMN 273 Posted July 2, 2008 Just saw on the ESPN ticker that Favre has contacted Green Bay about a possible return. Not sure exactly what this entails, and haven't seen this anywhere else, but it really isn't all that surprising. Please, everyone join me in making our thoughts known to #4: Focking retire already! BMoney 0 Posted July 2, 2008 you beat me to it according to my local sources..his return is about 90% done..i talked to a packers player on my route who said the same thing last monday..i want to say it blew me away but nah..whos surprised? people who are done, say they are done..people who say they can still play and have that fire, usually come back.. he knows he can still play..he just went about this all wrong..he shouldve said im taking a break from all of the charities we do..keep giving $$ but cut out the travel... take a break from the OTAs and other football stuff... he still has the playbook for heavens sake..are we to think he kept it as a momento? welcome back, brett!!! wiffleball 4,790 Posted July 2, 2008 Maybe Brett Favre isn't retired after all. ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting that Favre has told Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy that he has thought about playing this year. Although Favre's comeback talk is apparently in its preliminary stages, Mortensen also reports that Favre's family is encouraging him to play. Packers cornerback Al Harris appeared with Mortensen on ESPN's NFL Live this afternoon and said that Favre has told him that he "has the itch" to keep playing. Favre tearfully announced his retirement this off-season, and almost immediately afterward there were rumors that he'd be back. AOL Sports.

Pokey55 0 Posted July 2, 2008 Just makes him look like an idiot to be retired for what 3 months? He looks like a drama queen with all this nonsense and if he does come back, he better have an ace season. If he's just a little off people will be on him saying 'he should have stayed retired'. Oh wait. It's Favre...they'll be so busy kissing his @ss they won't even notice how he plays.
Brad GLuckman 519 Posted July 2, 2008 Wow...I wonder what's going through Aaron Rodgers head right now. As a Packer fan...I say don't take him back. What a selfish fvcking move on his part.

the_risen_demon 0 Posted July 2, 2008 Wow...I wonder what's going through Aaron Rodgers head right now. That's what I was thinking. Him, and the Packers ownership. What a spot to be in -- take Favre back to the probable detriment of the team (despite last year, his skills have obviously atrophied over the last several seasons and this jerking around of the team might be just a wee bit disruptive), or cut the most popular man in Wisconsin. Hemlock or strychnine, decisions decisions. At least it's only rumor at this point. I'd be sincerely surprised if Favre returned in any capacity other than as an injury replacement for Rodgers. BuschWack 59 Posted July 2, 2008 Wow...I wonder what's going through Aaron Rodgers head right now. As a Packer fan...I say don't take him back. What a selfish fvcking move on his part. I completely agree. Aaron Rodgers may have to enter a mental hospital. Rodgers will BY FAVRE surpass Steve Young if he ever gets the baboon names Favre off his back. I have no respect left for Favre. BMoney 0 Posted July 2, 2008 well, a true packers fan isnt going to start hating favre.... a real fan or someone who has lived here throughout his career KNOWS that he has a fire unlike many others...he shouldve missed games several times with injuries... i went to lambeau the day he retired and if u listened to what he said..you KNEW he left the door wide open...80% of the people i talked to knew he would be back... and who the fock cares about aaron rodgers? whats going through his mind right now? probably..cool...Im close to getting paid BIG money again to do nothing but play video games til the wee hours...you know what you got yourself into coming here and he couldve left by now.. why would he? he is getting paid good money just to practice with the 2nd unit...not a bad gig...had he been drafted by the niners, he would be on his way out of the nfl by now... like i said way back when...how are they gonna retire favres jersey when hes in the huddle? rip it off of him?...condolences to my friend who spent good $ on that opening weekend game..thinking that was the retirement day..i tried to warn him
FeelingMN 273 Posted July 2, 2008 Does this lend any credence to the rumors floating around at the time of his pseudo retirement press conference that he was upset the Pack didn't sign Moss? At the time, it seemed like he was making a knee jerk reaction in response to what the Packers didn't do. Hell, three days after his tearful goodbye, there was speculation that ol' Buss Cook was trying to work an angle with other teams. Just ride your tractor into the sunset, Brett. Belushi 9 Posted July 2, 2008 This is ridiculous. It's the typical unnamed source again. His agent came out and said he hasn't heard anything from Favre. Everyone's over-reacting based on some rumour. I'm sure just about every player who retires gets the "itch" to come back during the following summer. This is a non-story until Favre or his agent says otherwise. But it is sad they way everyone on these boards starts jumping over a rumour for no reason. berven 0 Posted July 2, 2008 Here in Wisconsin, I walked right past the heaps of "Thanks Brett!" tee shirts and piles of coffee table books reviewing his career when I stopped at Target for cat food. I kept my eyes straight ahead even when they went on closeout. I never thought Favre would retire, even when he practically re-enacted Lou Gehrig's farewell from "Pride of the Yankees." I'll be shocked if he doesn't start on opening day, after getting out of all those mini-camps he hates. My question is: When he retires after the '08 season, does he get another orgy of SI special editions and "Thanks Again Brett!" tee shirts? Will the original retirement merchandise lose collectible value because of his comeback? Or will it have enhanced value, like the famous DEWEY WINS edition of the Chicgo Tribune? If Green Bay thinks Brett can still play, they won't worry much about Rodgers's feelings. When they drafted some more QBs, I figured it was so they could trade Aaron if Brett returned. I'd like to have him back for another go. What I am tired of is the retirement circus. Despite the "country boy" demeanor," Favre has become the biggest showboat in football. He's worse than Terrell Owens because, since people love Favre, he can and does play with their emotions. No matter how many more times he "retires" and comes back, my hanky will stay in my pocket. Well, guess I'll hang it up as a poster now. For good. Spend some time with the family. Farewell, all!
wiffleball 4,790 Posted July 2, 2008 Not going to get too fired up over this one way or the other, BUT: 1) It's hard on Rogers AND the team. They've been doing OTA's and workouts with the full expectation of Rogers being "THE" guy. Coming in this late is disruptive. It's not a team-killer, but the whole reason he announced when he did was (supposedly) so that the team wouldn't have this distraction and get on with the transition. QB is not a fill-in-the-slot position. It takes time for linemen and receivers to get used to a certain rhythm, delivery, style and timing. - Probably isn't any more "different" QB than Brett Favre. 2) The poster (Bmoney) who in one breath raved about Favre's "FIRE", then asked why the hell Rogers would mind being benched is just retarded. Brett Favre has a lot of fire, that sure as hell doesn't mean that Rogers who's played his whole life, practiced, sweat, bled for most of his life waiting for this moment - would prefer to be sitting on his axx. 3) How did Rogers get himself into the Packers? He was DRAFTED Birdbrain. What? You want him to pull an Elway?? That's a stupid comment too Bmoney. 4) Love the idea that Bmoney represents himself as this great Packer fan then says (without any idea of the irony) "who the fock cares about Aaron Rogers?" Really? Your starting QB? That's your feeling toward him? Packers fans my ass. Favre fans more like it. 5) I like Favre a lot. I thought most of the criticism about "will he / won't he" in the past was a creation of the media. Still do. But yeah, as much as I love seeing the guy play, this - less than a month before camp - 5 weeks until the first preseason game? Not cool Brett. 6) Its guys like Bmoney that represent the "true" Packer fan. Brett starts sucking in week 3 and he'll be biitching to put Rogers in.

wiffleball 4,790 Posted July 2, 2008 wiffle..you swung and missed on this one...sorry... Yeah right. HOW the FOCK is Aaron Rogers going to ask out? When exactly? Now? Because he was told pretty clearly that he was the starter. Still is as far as everyone knows. When Brett himself does this half-hour soliloqy on his retirement, Rogers is supposed to say "Nah, not buying it, trade me." - Like the Pack would anyway. He's in the middle of a 5 year deal. Oh and BTW - He's only getting $7.7 Million over 5 years. That's crap compared to just about any other QB. You know why? Because there are escalators in the contract should he become the starting QB. This ain't just a mindfock by Favre. Roger's contract could have gone to $30Million if Favre had done what he's been hinting about for the past 5 focking years. I don't think Rogers is "happy" at all.

Gepetto 1,367 Posted July 2, 2008 First off, this is Chris Mortensen of ESPN reporting it. He's been wrong quite a lot about football stories in the last year. Having an "itch" to come back and play doesn't mean jack-sh!t. It's over. Packers should be thankful. Favre blew it in the playoffs with that horrible throw that got picked (his last pass). And I've always liked Favre.
ens189 1 Posted July 3, 2008 Yeah if I recall correctly Mort was the man who said that Eli would miss a month after he injured his shoulder against Dallas yet Eli never missed a snap after that game. He's not exactly the most reliable reporter but this does seem to be like a serious story that I think only ends one way, with Brett coming back.

Timinator 0 Posted July 3, 2008 Just heard the rumor on the radio. Maybe I'm a strange Packer fan, but I love Favre and I love Rodgers. Aaron's said and done all the right things since Brett's announcement on March 4. I'd love to see Rodgers get his chance. I think he's ready. I think he's the best starting QB in the division. With McCarthy in his corner, Rodgers is a fantasy sleeper who would reward his owner nicely. Should the Favre rumor be true, I'd be disappointed in him for about a month. Then, when he beats up the Vikes' secondary in Week 1, all would be forgiven. I wish he'd stay retired and I hated how old and unmotivated he looked in the Championship Game. But if Favre plays, he's got my full support. As a Packer fan, I can't really lose here.
Law 241 Posted July 3, 2008 ESPN, this thread, everyone plays right into Favre's plan...EVERYONE'S talking about him! It's been five months and poor little Drama Queen hadn't heard or seen his name out there enough. Had to do something didn't he??? I've NEVER seen a player more desperate for attention than Brett Favre. This whole drama that has been going on for years: will I retire or not, will I return or not, I'm retired, maybe not...is just so played! The immense respect I had for Favre, since his days at USM when he beat my Noles, is gone. He's a guy living in the past that just can let it go. He IS the past and I hope the Packers tell him so.
