Favre.......

Recommended Posts

Magic Bullet theory here. But does anyone else think this whole freaking thing has been a setup?

1. Favre can still play.

2. The Packers have been rumored to try and trade Rodgers before.

3. No real interest in Rodgers before.

4. Some believe that Thompson didn't believe in Rodgers talent.

5. Thompson drafts 2 QB's to back up Rodgers.

6. Favre wants to come back so quickly.

7. Coming back would allienate Rodgers.

8. Allienating Rodgers would make it look like you have to trade the guy not because you didn't believe in him, but because he wants out.

9. Favre comes back, Rodgers gone, Brohm learns a year or 2 behind Favre. Thompson has his guy?

Seriously out of left field here. But maybe this was Ted's and Brett's plan all along?

honestly the packers qb situation could get real ugly quick, we'll see if rogers can get outa august in one piece. Why they wouldn't want favre back is stupid imo...

But GB has the best QB situation in the NFC North. How ugly are the other teams?

1. Favre retired and GB spent the off season moving on.

2. But they were only rumors.

3. He was hand picked to replace Favre 3 years ago.

4. Rodgers was TT first draft choice as the Packer GM???????????

5. Every team needs competition and a quality BU at the QB position.

6. Favre never could make up his mind.

7. Favre is not coming back to GB.

8. Favre is not coming back to GB.

9. Favre is not coming back to GB, if he did we would go through the same crap with him next year and the next year and the........

I do agree that if GB wants Brohm over Rodgers bringing Favre back would be ideal and they didn't know they would get Brohm until after Favre retired.

I don't like the terd, but he's too good not to play at least one more season.

After such a good season, I don't know why the org wanted him to go away...the "we've got to get Rodgers in" reasoning is OK but at what cost? Losing?

When a GM wastes a 1st round pick on a QB that sits for 3 years and then makes an equally dumb move drafting another QB in the 2nd round, all the while a HOF QB is starting and is the biggest drama queen around, this is exactly the mess a franchise gets into.

I love it!!!!!

At least Millen drafted WRs that could get on the field immediately. Fudge packers have now wasted 4 picks on QBs (Ingle Martin and the other 7th round pick they used this year being the other 2 Qbs)

How's the view from the bottom of the division? Get used to it. This shows how great the Packers are. They burn 4 picks on QB's and STILL win the division easily.

Last team to be in the SB = Bears

Last team to have a 4-12 disaster = Fudge packers

Record over the last 3 years = 5-1 Bears * (* = Bears decide to give a meaningless game to the packers since they had bigger fish to fry)

The Packers website has nearly removed the name 'Favre.' If you scroll way to the bottom, there's a stamp-sized picture with a tiny caption stating that he has retired. I don't know if they want him back, but the absence of mawkish tributes may mean something. If the Pro Shop marks the "Goodbye Brett" tee shirts as closeouts, we'll know the rumors are likely true. I don't think they'll be featuring any "Welcome Back Brett" shirts, though.

Where the hell has he wasted a first round draft pick on a QB?

And why is it dumb to try and draft a competent QB if your new starter does not work out?

Is it because the Bears are dumb enough not to think of that?

Ingle was a 7th rounder...he was a practice squad guy. I guess you could call that a wasted pick...calling Rodgers or Brohm a wasted pick at this point is just completely idiotic...but its what we all expect from you.

We have no clue what Favre sent at this point.

Talk about wasted picks...you think a Bears fan would actually understand what a wasted pick is...Rashaan Salaam, Cedric Benson, Curtis Enis, Rex Grossman, Kyle Orton....any number of QBs drafted that sucked hind teet.

Care to point out where I said anything about Harris being a liar or even denied Favre stated he had the itch to play?

King's article is more speculation with little actual documented fact...shocking that most of this is speculation with people still running wild with what they think happened.

And you calling anyone else a homer is focking hilarious.

Best comment in the article:

And anyway, if the Packers are so thrilled with Rodgers' potential, why exactly did they draft Brian Brohm in the second round and Matt Flynn in the seventh?

===============

But in homer shonuff's green and gold colored world, the fudgepackers are a lock to contend again this year.... :pointstosky:

Because unlike the Bears they are not dumb enough to hang their hats on one guy?

Because he has had some injuries and they want to be prepared for if he cannot go?

Because they know, like anyone, that Rodgers may not pan out and want to be prepared?

Because it is never a bad thing to have 2 good QBs?

You know...things the Bears never think of which is why they are going into the season with Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton and a bucket of yuck (though, maybe they are that bucket).

I think they are a lock to contend for the division...have not said a thing beyond that.

Nice try though.

with WHO at qb?

and check the numbers..AP doesnt go off every week...they need him to..he doesnt...having 4 record breaking games will only equal 4 wins..not 8...

i love the bears fans..they are reaching for any lil positive..anything to grasp on to..not accepting the fact that

their qb situation wouldnt fly in the AFL, let alone the nfl...

they let the wrong RB go..tj instead of cedric...

once teams figured out (way too late) to avoid hester, and the bears no longer got gift scores..they found it even tougher..

and the breaks were due to finally go against the bears...

and there u had it..easiest UNDER on a win/loss bet that i ever made...

of course bears fans hate brett..he has owned them for YEARS...same way the old cardinals have owned the cubs..even the cubs greatest dead treasure, harry caray, was a former cardinal...but they would love brett tomorrow if he was theirs..

I honestly dont care. Somebody needs to make a damn decision so I dont have to hear about this every time I turn the channel to ESPN.

That I can agree with.

At this point...Brett and/or the Packers need to just come out and say either it is being discussed, or it is not being discussed and lets move on.

Favre letter to Packers to be mailed sho... Published Thu Jul 10 8:28:00 a.m. CT 2008

(Rotoworld) Profootballtalk.com has reportedly received a "tip" that the letter Brett Favre will send to the Packers requesting he be removed from the retired list is "ready to go" and could be sent in shortly.

Analysis: It took way longer to get Favre's retirement papers in. PFT editor Mike Florio cautions that the tip hasn't been corroborated or verified, but SI.com's Peter King reported something similar on Monday. It's interesting to note that Jay Cutler, who shares agents (Bus Cook) with Favre, indicated on NFL Network's Total Access Wednesday that he's heard Brett still wants to play.

thats remains to be seen imo if farve doesnt come back, rogers is pretty much an unknown, the only thing he has proved is he gets hurt fairly easily. Sorry I don't buy the dallas game, lots of crappy qb's have come in for a half or even a game and played decent only to get blown up later after teams have tape on them.

Farve asks for release from GB...

Mort reports Favre asks for release

HATTIESBURG, Miss -- Three days after a conference call with Green Bay Packers team officials on Tuesday in which quarterback Brett Favre emphatically expressed his desire to play in 2008, Favre on Friday formally asked for his contractual release from the Packers in a letter, sources close to Favre and the team said.

The letter was sent by Favre's agent, James "Bus" Cook, via overnight mail on Thursday and arrived at the Packers facility Friday morning.

Cook, on behalf of Favre, expressed a desire to have an amicable parting, as the Packers have been reluctant to embrace his return. Favre announced his retirement in early March.

During a conference call on Tuesday that included Packers general manager Ted Thompson, Packers coach Mike McCarthy, Favre and Cook, sources say that the quarterback stated emphatically that he wanted to play again.

When Favre was reminded by the Packers' brass that it was in March when the quarterback said publicly and privately that he wasn't 100 percent committed to football, sources said. Favre acknowledged his state of mind at the time, but added that he never felt he was a 100 percent committed in March of previous years, either. Favre felt he had to make a decision to retire because the Packers were pressing him for an answer, a source said.

During the same conference call on Tuesday, neither Thompson nor McCarthy were openly receptive or enthused about Favre's desire to un-retire, the sources said, prompting Favre to direct Cook to request his release from the Packers. Favre has three years remaining on his contract for a total of $39 million. He currently is on the reserve-retired list.

Favre wants a mutual parting rather than having to force the Packers' hand by writing a letter to request his reinstatement to the active 80-man roster. Under league policy, the team would have to comply or release him.

Cook's letter did suggest that Favre's accomplishments for the franchise merited the team honoring his request to be released, also asking that the action be taken "with no strings attached." Favre does not want to be traded, sources said, because he wants the freedom of choice to play for any other franchise.

Favre has been in communication with McCarthy during the past month about his desire to play but until this week had not spoken with Thompson.

Neither Thompson nor McCarthy were available for comment on Friday.

Favre did not wish to speak publicly about his situation when approached while working out Friday morning at a local high school in Hattiesburg. He appeared to be in excellent physical condition and threw the ball with ease, even throwing a football 50 yards "on a rope" with high school receivers. He has been throwing and running with the team for more than a month.

Favre was relaxed and in a positive frame of mind, joking and telling stories about himself, former teammates and coaches. He planned to continue working out next week.

If he gets an outright release, he can go any friggin place he wants. There are lots of teams w/ bad QB situations that would love to have a living legend who can still play on their roster. San Fran, Buffalo, Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, Minny, Baltimore, Tampa...he's got tons of freakin options.

If McNabb acted up again I could see Philly getting Favre as Reid would take him in a second.

Minnesota though - I can't see it -- would make sense from a team standspoint but to go from being a 17 year Packer to playing for your rival. Would be horrible form.

I think he turns Minny into an instant SB threat, heck, they're in the mix even without him. I think he turns the Ravens into a playoff contender again. But you're right, if he shows up in Minny, Chicago or even Detroit (unlikely) i think some Pack fans will throw themselves off buildings.

Carolina - unlikely - they have Delhomme unless Delhomme would willfully step down and be a back up for a season.

Minnesota - Great match - just wrong team name - They are a huge GB rival - I can't see it

Chicago - read above - though that would be the ultimate slap.

Atlanta - why would he want to other than close to home

Miami - why??

2 greatest chances

Tampa Bay - Gruden would take him in a MINUTE and be creaming in his focking pants untill the seaosn started.

Baltimore - If there D can stay healthy Favre could make them a contender again.

My $.02: Sure a lot of teams would love to have him but his options are limited. I think Green Bay allowing him back then working out a trade is unlikely and he's not going to play for a team he thinks doesn't have a chance to win the Superbowl. I'm sure he has a short list of teams in him mind, but Miami, San Francisco, Buffalo, Atlanta... not in 2008. We've noted many times over the last few weeks the Vikings would be an ideal fit. And while its hard to imagine, it's not that unlikely if the Packers end up releasing him. It would really be up to the Vikings management and Favre's willingness to play for a long-time rival but in the end, I bet both would say "yes" for the opportunity that marriage could provide... a Superbowl in 2008.

What kind of ratings do you think ESPN would get Week 1, Monday night if Brett wears purple?

i hear you, moz, but im in accord with mike [or he is in accord with me!]

there may be lots of options, but favre will want the strongest one. all those teams mentioned have significantly more deficiencies, OTHER than the qb position. minnesota is the one option to rank at the A or above level at more of the major areas [qb, hb, wr, o-line, defense] than the others (only their wrs would be lacking quality, but favre would invariably squeeze more out of them).

i think before this month, the consensus leaguewide, especially after the draft day acquisition of jared allen, was that the vikings were an instant deep playoff contender with anything resembling solid qb play; with a favre, they'd be be a devastating contender, if not top3 favorite to win it all.

Published Fri Jul 11 4:10:17 p.m. CT 2008

(KFFL) The Green Bay Packers made a statement Friday, July 11, regarding retired NFL QB Brett Favre. "Brett earned and exercised the right to retire on his terms. We wanted him to return and welcomed him back on more than one occasion. Brett's press conference and subsequent conversations in the following weeks illustrated his commitment to retirement. The finality of his decision to retire was accepted by the organization. At that point, the Green Bay Packers made the commitment to move forward with our football team. As a retired player, Brett has the option to apply for reinstatement with Commissioner Goodell. If that were to occur, he would become an active member of the Green Bay Packers. As always, the Packers will do what's right and in the best interest of the team. As with all Packers greats, Brett's legacy will always be celebrated by our fans and the organization, regardless of any change in his personal intentions. Brett and Deanna will always be a p art of the Packers family."
