Guess I was wrong about Scheffler ... :(

Recommended Posts

He has been relegated to 3rd TE ( 2nd pass catching TE ) Benched in favor of journeyman Nate Jackson. After the way he played to end last season having some really nice games Shanny goes and benches the guy.. Any Denver insiders know if this is for real or Shanny just trying to motivate Scheffler?

I believe it. In the last Denver preseason game he was yanked for doing something wrong, I just don't know what he did wrong.

Aug. 13th. -

Tony Scheffler, who dealt with a recurring foot issue during the spring, has practiced twice a day at Broncos training camp.

The coaching staff tried to light a fire under Scheffler early by putting Nate Jackson ahead of him on the depth chart, but Scheffler passed him with ease. The deep threat should begin this season as Jay Cutler's go-to target with Brandon Marshall suspended. Scheffler has top-8 fantasy TE upside.

Where you getting this recent news from? The only thing I can find is something from August 13th but he passed Jackson with ease at that point.

Do you have any new info????????

Leonard Pope may be available. With Warner at the helm, he should have some upside. Plus he is in a contract year.

I live in Denver and the only Bronco that I have had on my team since the Portis trade has been the kicker (Elam and now Prater).

I avoid all Denver players. I don't want anything to do with the RBs since it is a game of musical chairs every year. The QB only has one good WR and he is a trouble maker who is hurt and suspended. The Denver defense can't stop the run so I avoid them. The TE situation just started muscial chairs today. The player worth having on the Broncos is the kicker.

I drafted him on Saturday in the 13th round of a 12-team redraft. I think this is just another plan to light a fire under his asss to turn it up a notch this season. I think if Cutler presses the issue, Sheffler is right back in there on single and two TE sets, and Cutler has way more of a connection with Sheffler than he does Marshall off the field.

I think if you drafted him, wait the 10 days and see if its for real...its not like there is anything really out there at this point to pick up that would make a huge difference anyway. I drafted Keller out of NYJ as my TE2.

If you havent drafted, then just consider this bullsh1t an extension of The Ratface's RB merry go round and avoid it.

You idiots go ahead and drop Scheffler for Leonard pope. I'm stickin with the guy that has just as good a chance as anyone to finish the season as TE4 behind the big 3. Seriously, I've never seen so much over reaction to such a non issue in my life.

Isn't the whole point of preseason football and fantasy football message boards to freak out over every single piece of information that pops out? :shocking:

But yeah, I really find it difficult to believe that a HC would willingly bench his QB's favorite target unless there have been some *serious* issues that we haven't heard about. Then again, it's Shanahan so who knows. Maybe I'm just being too optimistic and in denial since I own Scheffler in one of my money leagues.

I always assumed that he was just trying to get into "football shape" with the 2nd team. Remember, he re-aggrivated his foot injury a few months ago, and was in a boot. Probably best not to start him with all the first teamers and risk a preseason injury to your QB's favorite target. Better to move him along with the 2nd team in different situations to get him back in shape.

Just my $.02

right now Graham starts and Jackson is in on 2 TE sets an on passing downs. Apparently Scheffler did something recently that pissed shanny off I think during the last game and it got him yanked. Why Shanny would bench a guy that has looked like a great pass catching TE for a jouneyman I have no clue. I am holding onto Scheff but I just picked up Donald Lee/Zack Miller for insurance.

Here's a nugget from sportsline.com:

Scheffler now the backup in Denver: The Olympian reports that TE Tony Scheffler is currently listed as the backup pass-catching TE in Denver behind Nate Jackson. "I'm not worried about it," Scheffler said. "I think I proved myself last year that I can make plays for this team and I think I'm going to be a big part of things."

Fantasy Analysis

Scheffler had a nice last two-thirds of the season in 2007, but that was after Jackson went down with an injury. Most people thought Scheffler had the inside track heading into this season, but he was slowed by a foot injury early in camp and now Fantasy owners will really have to worry about what kind of production they'll get out of him in 2008. He remains a No. 2 option, but you have to drop him down to very low end of that category with this latest news.

I was high on Scheff, especially the first couple of games with Marshall being out. I had assumed his stats were skewed last year due to injury but the write up seems to suggest the primary factor was Jackson being out of the lineup. I think I also read somewhere he had only caught a pass or two during the preseason. That, along with the news of him being the TE2 in passing situations has me a lil' concerned about his potential this year.

I get tired of dealing with Shananigans, especially this early in the season. So I cut bait and picked up Owen Daniels, but I'll continue to monitor his situation. The guy could put up good numbers this year if given the opportunity.

But at the same time, Shanny aint won sh1t in a while, and I think that he cant really afford another ho-hum season...at some point, management will have to consider pulling his card if he cant get the team to win.

Given that, I think he has to put the best team on the field, whether he is pissed at them or not, and that list includes Sheffler. IMHO.

Oh, you must have missed the great Travis Henry suspension watch of '07 then. You need to hang around here more.
