Rye & Leaf 0 Posted August 29, 2008 So far, both Ricky Williams, who started the game, and R Brown have been given one series. From what I can see, Ronnie is running with more energy than Ricky so far, as he should, having had little work this preseason. One thing I noticed, though Ricky says he "doesn't care to compete with Ronnie," Ricky is anxiously watching Ronnie from the sideline while Ronnie is in the game. Of course, he is taking mediaction for his anxiety, at least at one time he did, anyway, despite what he says, I think Ricky is motivated to be the starter. Update: Ronnie just plunged in from the 1 yard line. He looks healthy, though his timing appears to be off, most evident on a sweep play he stretched too wide near the goalline. I expect a 50/50 split week one, unless one back seems to be doing better than the other. If that is the case, I expect the coach to go with the hot back. If Ronnie is as healthy as he looks tonight, and we have to remember there is no substitute for youth, especially when it comes to RBs, Ronnie Brown being 26 (statistically the best year in a RBs career), I don't think it would be out of line to believe the amount of touches in the offense would start favor Ronnie Brown as the season wore on. Big4Jerm3 0 Posted August 29, 2008 If you are counting on Ricky or Ronnie to be a starter for your team then you might be focked. If you take Ricky as a reserve bench player then you might have something valuable. Ronnie is not 100% and Ricky has been relaxing with the weed so he is fresh. I HATE THE FAGGY COWBOYS!!! Ronnie looked very good tonight. This was the best he has looked all preseason. Maybe this could be more of a time share than I thought. I'm liking Miami's team and OL this year and potential for a nice running game but Ronnie may be healthy enough to force a RBBC. Ricky looks in top form too. Swagger 0 Posted August 29, 2008 ROTOWORLD sees RBBC with a positively healthy Brown. Ronnie Brown gained 47 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries and added two receptions for 10 yards against the Saints Thursday night. Brown passed the final test with flying colors. He didn't wear a soft cast on his injured thumb, and he reportedly looked good cutting and planting on his surgically repaired knee. A much needed positive showing for Brown, but this still has the look of a committee attack to start the season. Good problem to have for Miami. Question is will Ricky put his body through the rigors and abuse that made him want to leave early at his prime. I am still not convinced that he has his head on straight. He has something to prove, but the glory years were at Texas. That was 10 fricken years ago...1998.
ggroovy17 0 Posted August 29, 2008 Sporano and Parcells in Dallas now Miami Ronnie Brown = Julius Jones Ricky Williams = Marion Barber I'd rather have Ricky Williams for this year.
Rye & Leaf 0 Posted August 29, 2008 Sporano and Parcells in Dallas now Miami Ronnie Brown = Julius Jones Ricky Williams = Marion Barber I'd rather have Ricky Williams for this year. I can understand the comparison, but JJ is not as good as R. Brown, and at this point in his career, R. Williams is not as effective as Marion the Barbarian. R. Brown is about 24lbs heavier than JJ, and doesn't have the same "scatback" running style, though for a big guy, he is just as elusive. Ronnie Brown is also heavier than the Barbarian or R Williams, and just as tough to stop near the goalline, so at this point, I don't think we could say that R Williams will be getting more red zone oppertunities. I'm sure Sparano will give a little more insight into the situation in the next couple days.
kennybanya 0 Posted August 29, 2008 Anyone who thinks Ricky Williams will miraculously turn back the clock back to 2003 and run wild while sharing the backfield with Ronnie Brown on a rebuilding team is delusional. Ricky may start early in the season and occasionally put up decent numbers while Brown gets back to full speed, but that's it. Look at what Brown accomplished last year with a supporting cast of assorted crap. Ronnie is a far superior receiver and more explosive at full strength. Think about what he could do with a solid line and QB. If Ricky gets more than 50% of the workload, I'll be shocked.
CedarGrovePack 2 Posted August 29, 2008 Ricky is filling in until Ronnie gets back to form. Ronnie will take over with Ricky, if still healthy, backing him up.
