Fearsome 22 Posted August 28, 2008 In a keeper league and these four will be the best I have to choose from. There will be two picks ahead of me (I am at 1.6) so I may only get a crack at two of these guys. My keeper back is S Jax. I could also go Moss, TO or Brady here but I think I am going RB and get a Fitz or Colston with 2.5. Of the four, I like, in order: 1. Portis...Solid. New offense. New coach. Re-energized. 2. Grant...Fluke? No Favre hurt value? No track record. 3. Gore...SF line sucks. Never has produced #1 RB numbers. 4. Lewis...Is he still in the league? Anderson sucks, just wait for it. All you OSU fans know what I mean! Standard scoring. No PPR. 10 team league.
kwyjibo 0 Posted August 29, 2008 Portis is the clear #1 out of that foursome. It's a tough call between Gore and Grant for #2. I would lean slightly to Gore but it's really a coin-flip. Lots of questions around both SF and GB. I wouldn't even consider Jamal until a few rounds later. I just have a bad feeling about CLE this year.
ETSDAD 0 Posted August 29, 2008 I would lean Portis, but after that I'd probably slot Moss ahead of Gore and Brady ahead of Grant and Lewis. I think you could get a McGahee/LJ/MJD type in the 2nd round that would be as good as Grant or Lewis.
GoPackGo2008 0 Posted August 29, 2008 Basically here is what it comes down to: You know exactly what you are getting with Portis and there is nothing wrong taking him as your complement to Jackson and it gives you the look of a playoff team. However, Grant offers the most upside in my mind, but with the Packers having some issues with the interior of their O-Line, it is certainly taking a chance. I'm not high on Gore or Lewis compared to the other two.
ETSDAD 0 Posted August 29, 2008 I just don't think you can take either of Grant or Lewis when a WR coming off a 23 TD season and a QB coming off a 50 TD season are on the board. The relative value is heavily slanted to Moss and Brady at that point. What's the downside for Moss and Brady? 14 TDs and 35 TDs maybe....what's the downside for Grant or Lewis? Cmoney22 0 Posted August 29, 2008 Definately go Portis out of the bunch there imo. I could see going for Brady or even a receiver, but if you can get another stud RB in Portis then a great WR in the second round, go for it... gl
Bledsoe11 0 Posted August 29, 2008 I am a bit nervous with jacksons hold out, but think he will be a stud. If you must go RB then Portis all the way. One question...Why wouldnt you take Moss or TO and have a top WR to go with a top RB in SJax. thats what i would do. then go for a second tier RB in the second round. Good luck... Fearsome 22 Posted August 29, 2008 I was thinking the same thing. Having top guys in both positions really solidifies your team. Thanks for all the help guys...To answer your questions, the reason I am thinking RB is that the backs that will be there when I pick in round 2 are likely to be MJD, Kevin Smith, Graham, FWP, Thomas Jones, L. White, Jacobs and Edge. Not really excited about any of those guys. Plus, since I am keeping S Jax and Steve Smith, based on ther stats from last year, I am giving up a 3rd rounder for S Jax and a 4th for Smith. I need to get a RB and a WR in the first two rounds because I will not pick again unitl the fifth and what RBs will be there then? I can get a decent WR but certainly no RBs which why I am leaning RB in the 1st. Thanks for your help again.
