Palin speech tonight at 9pm CST...

Recommended Posts

All of the traditional conservative talking points.......and they're effective because they appeal to tradition, particularly as it pertains to gender roles. That's why conservatives cling to these values and issues so much, and also why speeches like tonight's are so effective. It goes back to the frigging stone age.

Is this really that hard to figure out? I guess it is. I mean, hell, the number of Americans with a Bachelor's is somewhere between 24-28%, depending on which research you look at.

Kind of how Obama and Biden are spewing the traditional liberal talking points appealing to certain things too?

You act as if the other side is not doing the same focking thing.

The simple fact that this whole time people are comparing/contrasting Palin with Obama (the actual Prez candidate), and not Biden is all you need to know in order to gauge if this was a good pick by McCain or not.

As a fervid Obama supporter, you'd think you would have learned not to include these two words together in any sentence, about any topic.

And for those who believe she 'nailed it', well you and Wolf Blitzer think alike. Anyone catch his remarks about 'America being introduced to a new political star'? :I'd rather watch Trig than hear that crap:

Honestly, what's the big deal? Because she's from AK, and a relative unknown to the average American, we thought she'd be chewin' and spittin' and stutterin' and mispronouncin' some words the smart folk use? C'mon. She was undersold and only had to not screw up to make everyone feel good. Is that really sucess?

She's obviously very talented, but she's on the ticket to secure disaffected Clinton supporters and conservatives. That's it.

The sad thing is, most of America is absolutely decided on who to vote for, based solely on the likeability factor. The Presidency has become a 6 month popularity contest.

I'm eager to watch these guys (and gal) square off in the debates. Hopefully as many folks will be watching with as much anticipation then as they were tonght.

Well, I've seen enough of Sarah tonight. What a total cunt. Mother of God. As I said last week, shrewd pick by McCain. She's going to bring all kinds of nutjobs out of the woodwork. I already thought McCain was going to win, but I'm starting to feel like it may wind up being by a decent margin come November.

This country deserves the problems that it constantly encounters. It really does.

Well, there's my 15-minute break from studying for tonight. Have fun staring at the hot nutjob, everyone.

You really think Obongo is going to win?

A lot of the curly bored women seemed surprised she could speak decently.

Personally I've been wanting to like Palin and be comfortable with it, but it requires doing a lot of homework.

Reading this summary of her political legacy in AK was disheartening. Maybe there's good counter explanations regarding a lot of the points made, but it's tough trying to figure truth out.

You really need to understand that this is a Presidential Election that will affect us all over the next 4 years and your sexual gratification is of no relevance. This juvenile behavior is really something that you should consider

I loved how she talked about the economy. Wait, someone just told me she, nor any of the other repubs, discussed the economy.

Anyways, i think the speech was effective for what they wanted. Its going to appeal to their base. It'll get people riled up and excited and really enthuse republicans. They really needed it since they have been kinda lackluster recently. But i think her speech will kick the republican party into another gear. McCain better not fock up the momentum she gave him.

But me personally, i didn't like the speech. It sounded to me as she wanted to come off as a tough guy, not afraid to bully. She made some really cheap remarks that irked me quite a bit. Dismissing his community organizing work was a slap in the face to the thousands of Americans who do all they can to help their community. There was no reason to go after community service. Thats the christian way and american way. We help one another. And to dismiss it as its nothing was terrible. That comment affected me more than the average person because i'm a huge believer in community work (i even got a DUI so i could do more of it). It came off as the opposite of speak softly and carry a big stick. Its like, say it loudly and sternly enough and people will believe you. She kept hammering obama on taxes, yet obama will lower taxes for 95% of Americans. BUt she went on and on and on about it. She tried to make it seem like taxes are gonna go up across the board, when that simply isn't true. I think that comes off as ignorant. Also, people on this board mentioned it so take it with a grain of salt, but didn't she raise taxes in Alaska? Didn't she leave her town in debt?

I don't think she'll get many hillary supporters. We men love to talk as if we know what appeals to woman but we don't know it for sh1t. But from listening to the radio, hillary supporters liked her stance on the economy, health care, and pro-choice. Palin didn't say jacksquat about the economy, isn't for health care, and isn't pro-choice.

Typical crap. Again, people may not like what he says and may disagree with his opinions/policies, but he's obviously an extremely intelligent person. In terms of him supposedly not being able to improvise......

Simply because he doesn't give immediate black or white answers doesn't mean that he can't improvise. He's analytical. He doesn't always give immediate "yes or no" answers. However, since the majority of our electorate is not very analytical, that doesn't play well.

Again, Obama's been fighting a ridiculous amount of uphill battles since day 1, with race actually being on the back burner. It's unreal that he's gotten so far.

Analytical? Is that the politically correct way to say Too Stupid To Have An Answer. Obama is dumb.

And I agree. It's unreal and embarrassing that he's gotten so far.

It's McCain's job to talk about the issues, not Palin.

Fock community organizing and service. That's for nitwits, prisoners trying to make parole, and court appointed punishment for some crime. Fock it up it's ass.

Also, 100% of people in this country will have their taxes raised. Don't believe that Obama sh!t talk about 95%. It's a lie, and you are incredibly, incredibly naive if you buy into that. When you follow politics, you have to be cynical. It's time for you to grow up and face reality. I wouldn't be surprised to see McCain raise taxes. Obviously, not as much as Obama, but it would probably happen.

What top lib votes for tax cuts? Kerry? no. Gore? no. Clinton? no. dukakis? no. mondale? no. carter? no. johnson? no. Kennedy...actually yea.

on addressing the tax cut promise of Clinton in his book, stephanopolous said "we kept the promises we intended to keep"

he also talked about their new lib strategy of promising everything under the sun, whatever it takes to win, because then

your opponent is gone, you have the power and 4yrs later ppl will forget about those things. A lot of the same ppl running

that campaign have run all the top lib campaigns since. Osama is following the same strategy. Promise everything, give no

details, demonize your opponent.

Obama's done nothing all along but talk about what he's going to do and how he's going to do it. Again, as I said in the beginning, his biggest problem is going to be the fact that he's dealing with an uneducated pubic. As I've said, this is why he'll lose.

This sums up exactly WHY Obama will let this slip away. On the Dem side, we have Obama who is far too smart, and must educate folks like me why he is so much better. On the GOP side, we have a woman who is just like any other mom driving her kids to school in her minivan, not pretending to be anything but a mom and average citizen. Which plays best to the average American?

And Rattle...cut the pathetic set-up excuses. How many times do you need to tell everyone that you support Obama but think McCain will win. That is total defeatist BS, only serving to allow you to say "I told you so" if BO gives away the election.

Thank you for using the word "broad". I've been trying to bring that word back into style, and it looks like people of all political philosophies are starting to embrace it.

Now, just try to work the following words into conversation: tomato, toots, dame, and slit.

:) I've been using the word "broad" for years.

Awww...Obama might not win, so the American public must be uneducated, right? This is the elitist attitude that Liberals cling to that turns so many normal people off, and lose them elections. Obama is no different.

Wow, you have a degree? Big deal princess, t's a damn piece of paper that says you sat through enough classes to get it. You want to educate yourself?....read a book a professor didn't tell you to read. Support a political candidate your professor didn't brainwash you to support. Think for yourself instead of regurgitating the same sh!t every young college educated male in the country tells me every day of the week.

It's funny you speak like you are some "free thinker" for supporting Obama...yet all you really are doing is following the status quo of your peers. Your education does not give you some magic ability to understand him, while all of us "uneducated folk" can't quite grasp the intellectual genius that is Barrack Obama. His plans lack details, and don't add up. She nailed it last night when she spoke about capital gains, dividend, and inheritance taxes.

You want to be a free thinker? Understand the fact that 90% of what politicians tell you to get elected is BS. Now step back, and look at the two candidates. Obama has promised everything but a pony for every child. Who is going to pay for that?

Dismissing his community organizing work was a slap in the face to the thousands of Americans who do all they can to help their community. There was no reason to go after community service. Thats the christian way and american way. We help one another. And to

Obama laughed off her service as a mayor of a small town. She retaliated by laughing off his service as a community organizer. He attacked. She responed. She won. They tried to attack her experience...but it's just not going to work. She has ACCOMPLISHMENTS she can list. He does not.

Overall I liked the speech. She did speak very well. She didn't go into specifics, so it was Obama-like in that regard, but I don't think that was the intention of this speech. If she sat up there talking about policy plans and budgeting...people would still be talking about her husband's DUI 20 years ago instead of anything she said last night. She needed a homerun tonight, and she got it.

I don't think this momentum will last long though. The media is praising her today, but will be right back to tearing her apart in 24 hours.

Ummm...she dismissed the community organizer because of how she has been slammed for being a mayor of a small town and a governor.

She isn't for health care? Or she is not for the government subsidizing it for everyone?

That she did not say it last night, does not mean she does not have positions on the economy and such (and she did mention parts of some economic issues if anyone was actually listening).

Obama will lower personal income taxes...but raise them elsewhere that will also hurt those other Americans. And that is his proposal now...do you really think he will do it with all that he proposes to spend on?

It's dumb for the Dems to attack her 'lack of experience' for all the obvious reasons, and I agree with the folks that think their criticism of being a small town mayor smacks of elitism. This is in large part why Dems don't do well in Presidential elections; they come across as smug and callous.

Just the same, the Repubs response is just as dumb: "But she has more executive experience than Obama and Biden combined!" Nice job textpert, she then also has more executive experience than McCain. It's a dumb retort and doesn't really answer anything about anything. Such is the way of American politics.

She proved she wasn't an idiot last night. It amazes me that anyone actually thought otherwise. And I'm equally amazed that folks buy into this thought that she, or any other politician, is just like you or me. She's just an average American. Bullsh!t. She has gotten where she's at through an almost inhuman form of ambition. They all have. And I don't want an average American running the country. The average American would sh!t their shorts working under that amount of stress while having to appear calm and in control. It's a ridiculous expectation, but that's the story they're telling us and I guess some of us are willing to follow it.

It'll be interesting to hear Johnny's speech tonight. He needs to provide some examples about his platform, especially about the economy and energy. If he evades economic issues, the Dems will crucify him. He admitted in March 'the economy wasn't a strong point' for him. If he does nothing to address this shortcoming, he's more of a charlatan than Obama.

Not that it would matter to most. After all, she's hot, he's a hero and the other guy is the devil. Image is everything.

Well said. Although some Dems (and republicans, the media, etc.) like to engage in the Palin experience trap, Obama seems to be smart enough not to. If he can keep the election about the issues then IMO he will be the next POTUS. Palin is a good speaker etc. but all she did was attack Obama. If McCain doesn't address any issues tonight, then the McCain/Palin ticket will have a tough time winning. He better have something more then "Drill, Win, and P.O.W."

If she has more executive experience then Obama and Biden combined, would that not include McCain

He has not started his lying yet. Check on the last 8 years for example of lying by the Republicans. HTH.

Lying about what? Did they say they weren't going to invade afghanistan and iraq then said 'Psyche!' and

invade anyway?

Umm. Let's see. We are going to go into Iraq because Sadam has WMD's even though they KNEW that the information that they were going off of was wrong. Sure seems like a fine example of a lie.

Several countries had their intel communities saying the same thing. Link to they "knew" the information was wrong.

Seems to me if some dipshqueeze nobody on a FFB bored has the inside info on this that Aunt Nancy and Uncle Harry would have charged Bush with something by now........

At least the Reps have ONE person on the ticket with executive experience. Glad to see you finally come around to the truth about Obama being too inexperienced to get a sniff of the White House.

I'm glad you know exactly what obama's plans are. Its good to know someone from obama's inner circle is on this board, we'll get a lot of good information.

Your dismissiveness of community service is pathetic. ALL charities are a form of community service. Its pathetic you would suggest that no one should donate time/money to charities. Unless you think charities are somehow not community service.

I watched her speech some more and she straight up lies at many points. The biggest being the whole earmarks thing. That was complete bullsh1t. She DID support the bridge and according to gocolts research, she only began opposing it when the state had to pay 81% of the cost instead of 40% of the cost. Thats the complete opposite of what she said. She said "I gave it back to congress and said if we need a bridge, we'll build it ourselves." I don't know how that one slipped passed me last night. Also, she sent a long ass memo to the senator asking for a whole mess of earmarks. Alaska has the highest federal funding per capita of any state.

Her point about giving money back was terrible too. They had a surplus that she gave back to the people, yet borrowed money to build infrastructure. How is that smart?

If i watch her speech again my head will explode. Well its not even her speech, since someone else wrote it. Maybe thats why it was full of false statements.

Perhaps it was more of a we can build it much cheaper than the idiots in Washington can for that kinda money.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt here colts and think that had this been the other way around, i would've tried to put the same spin on it. So the questions i'm posing to you are keeping in mind i probably would've said the same thing you did had i been trying to defend a democrat.

If she was so against earmarks and unnecessary government spending, why would she approve of it in the first place? Shouldn't she had said something like, hey this is a great thing we're doing, but we can definitely do it cheaper. Also, if she was in favor of building the bridge, but felt the government was wasting money and they could do it cheaper, how come she never started with new plans on the bridge?
