I'm disgusted.

I mean it. This isn't a joke. He is probably turning over in his grave right now.

Listening to the radio the past week has made me sick. A bunch of black people raving about how they're voting for the first time because there is a black man on the ticket. Isn't this exactly what King fought to prevent? We've officially seen a President elected because of his color and not his character...you'd be a fool to think that Obama would have won if he was white.

I'm sorry we failed you, Dr. King. Your dream has been distorted and used by the Democrats to enslave your people all over again.

Call me a racist. I don't care. I'm disappointed in this country.

As a poker player, I can already tell you voted for someone other than Obama ... prolly McCain. I understand you are let down that the Republican Party has turned to poop in the past 8 years .... so look to people like Corey Booker, that are going to get more help now.

But if it makes you feel .... less racist, or higher than thou, or whatever to say that Obama

A - Was elected because he was black

or

B - Black people are not reacting properly to the opportunity to be heard

It makes me even more happy that you lost.

so after every previous election did you talk about how all the WT rednecks out there left their meth lab for a few hours, hopped on their 4-wheelers and drove up to the polls to vote red just because they are in fact brainless and toofless who only vote for N-hating....well you get the point. idiocracy.

there will always be dumbarses out there voting for candidates for simple reasons, but it is their right to vote and so be it.

the fact is, obama is a good man, just as good as mccain and he is our next president. lets have faith that he will do the job right, get us moving in a better direction and just simply do us better than W did.

get over it.

FWIW, im a white male and color doesnt dicatate who i vote for...i voted obama.

Yea i don't think its such a big deal. Black people already vote more than 90% democrat, so its not like its some huge change. Its good that he got people to register and actually participate. Yea yea, some people are stupid and vote for a candidate for something ridiculous like "i can have a beer with him" "he's black" "he's not black" or whatever, but getting people to vote may be the first step to get those same people more involved. Now they feel like they are part of the process so maybe all these new voters, black or white or any other color, will take a more active role in our political process.

As far as voting for him solely because he's black, i don't think its as bad as not voting for him because he's black. As a minority (specifically east indian) i'm glad to see a qualified black candidate become president. I wouldn't vote for him, but if bobby jindal becomes a bigger player in the republican party, i'll be happy for him. Even though he is ethnically(i'm from the state Punjab which is pretty different from south india where jindal is from), religiously, and politically different from me, i'd be happy to see him in an expanded role. I wouldn't vote for him, but it would be good to see a positive role model break some of the stereotypes.

Its just different for minorities. We root for our own kind. When i see another indian person, i acknowledge him with some form of greeting(usually just a lil head nod), even if i don't know him any more than any other person. It doesn't seem logical and i can't put it into words why we feel that way.

I see your point. Although there was a good point made below that maybe now that they've voted they will feel more empowered to get involved.

However, I quickly come back to your points and realize that if they had gotten more involved earlier, maybe this could have happened before now.

I have to admit. I tend to agree with the overall theme of this statement.

However, you cannot assume that all blacks, or even a majority, voted for him simply because he's black. Period.

So there are some credibility issues with your post.

There were some who voted for him because he was black and there were some who did not vote for him because he is black. I think it is pretty much a wash. He was the better candidate and ran a much better campaign. Even if you do not believe he is the better candidate, you have to admit he ran a better campaign.

You know, growing up white .... with black/Jewish step parents .... you'd think I had it all, until my Mexican Catholic fiance .... but the fact is my family accepts everyone. I didn't marry that Mexican chick .... I think for like a grand you can just buy a Mexican these days.

Might hafta teach 'em Spanish guitar to make it worthwhile.

:headbanger:

No, I'm being mean on purpose. I really loved her. Mexican's get no respect.

Oh cmon, white people do this too.

Say you are on a bus, or a train, and you and one other guy are the only white people on there. You give em the "sup" nod.

Way to dust off a classic and use it at a most appropriate time! :first:
