Geek Parents: Tonsils/Adenoids out. What is the recovery period like for my 4yo?

Surgery is tomorrow Any direct experience with this? We were told a few days of layign around and soft, room temp foods but some of the literature suggests 7-10days of no school. She is in pre-school but is off mon/tues anyway so I guess I am wondering if there is anythign to watch out for / general tips / etc and if she will likely be ready to return to school wednesday. TIA

had mine done many moons ago. I remember a couple of days recovery time with plenty of ice cream. I was about 8 at the time though so perhaps the recovery time would be longer for a younger child.

My daughter had this done last spring at age 4 and she at a grilled cheese sandwich 4 hours later. It was no big deal to her.

I think the younger the quicker, actually. My wife had it done a few years ago and she had the 7-10 day recoverery time...they say it is much more painfull and longer to bounce back from for adults.

honestly, you people are THE WORST she has overlarge adnoids and they ahve begun to cause snoring and might lead to sleep aphnia I guess. She hasnt had the strep and sore throats and such that normally lead to this.

My daughter(-22A) had her adenoids taken out when she was 6, not tonsils though. she also had tubes put into her ears during the process. She went in at 8 AM, and made it to soccer practice at 5PM. But I hear tonsils hurt a bit more.

My daughter had hers out when she was either 10 or 11. Early on a Friday morning. We were home from hospital by about noon. Asked wife what she wanted for lunch. Daughter asks, "what are you getting me?" We had stocked up on yogurt and figured she'd be eating that and ice cream. I ended getting her a side of mashed potatoes and an order of mac and cheese from Boston Market. She polished 'em off like no big deal. Asks for more. She returned to school Monday, much to the surprise of her teacher, and missed no time. I saw her tonsils afterward and they were huge. That's why she had to have them out. Always leading to throat/ear infections.
