6.4

Administrative Leader - Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States. He successfully led the country through its greatest internal crisis, the American Civil War, preserving the Union and ending slavery.

Cliche, I know. Would have rather have had Washington, but some pot-smoking-banana-head scooped him up.

Hate to be a spoilsport but in their grating wisdom, the Chinese government babysitters have blocked youtube for two weeks now. So I don't know who it is.

Oversaw the creation of the atomic bomb. If not for him, the American people would be speaking Hiroshimian right now.

7.1 MDC - Biggest FFT Idiot.

Does this really need to be explained?

Politics is too divisive, as it's easy to name an idiot that is not of your same ideology. I wanted to grab a legitimate idiot this early in the draft. Most famous welcher at this site, loses every argument, lost a popularity contest to herpes in a legitimate poll, failed writer, coffee fetching intern, constantly deletes his threads when he is made to look foolish.

7.3 Teddy Roosevelt - Administrative Leader/Head of State

During the Spanish-American War, Roosevelt was lieutenant colonel of the Rough Rider Regiment, which he led on a charge at the battle of San Juan. He was one of the most conspicuous heroes of the war.

As President, Roosevelt held the ideal that the Government should be the great arbiter of the conflicting economic forces in the Nation, especially between capital and labor, guaranteeing justice to each and dispensing favors to none.

Roosevelt emerged spectacularly as a "trust buster" by forcing the dissolution of a great railroad combination in the Northwest. Other antitrust suits under the Sherman Act followed.

Roosevelt steered the United States more actively into world politics. He liked to quote a favorite proverb, "Speak softly and carry a big stick. . . . "

Aware of the strategic need for a shortcut between the Atlantic and Pacific, Roosevelt ensured the construction of the Panama Canal. His corollary to the Monroe Doctrine prevented the establishment of foreign bases in the Caribbean and arrogated the sole right of intervention in Latin America to the United States.

He won the Nobel Peace Prize for mediating the Russo-Japanese War, reached a Gentleman's Agreement on immigration with Japan, and sent the Great White Fleet on a goodwill tour of the world.

Some of Theodore Roosevelt's most effective achievements were in conservation. He added enormously to the national forests in the West, reserved lands for public use, and fostered great irrigation projects.

 Dagnabbit TAS. That's twice now.

OK, I'm easy. We'll roll with it again. I was considering whether the category should be internationalized or not before we started.

Africans or African-Americans or African-Germans or whatnot. Just please sub-Sahara Africa (aka black folks). I don't want this loophole to be used for Carthage or Egyptian pharohs or Saracens.

Maybe that's best but lets get some imput from other folks first. Really, sincethere's only been one other pick in it so far, it's not a big deal opening the category up either.

Deleted another geek's pick of CH for FFT idiot using my handle.

Insurgent - William Wallace ... Fleeeeadom!!

Scotland has recently been recognizing Andrew de Moray's role (Wallace linked up with him and his followers) so he needed real consideration. Andrew de Moray was technically more successful than Wallace, but what clenched it for me was Wallace's defiance. When England tried him for treason he said he hadn't committed it because he never recognized the King's authority in the first place. Someone who stands by that as

Wallace was taken from the hall, stripped naked and dragged through the city at the heels of a horse to the Elms at Smithfield. He was hanged, drawn and quartered — strangled by hanging but released whilst he was still alive, emasculated, eviscerated and his bowels burnt before him, beheaded, then cut into four parts. His preserved head was placed on a pike atop London Bridge. It was later joined by the heads of the brothers, John and Simon Fraser. His limbs were displayed, separately, in Newcastle upon Tyne, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Stirling, and Aberdeen
... plus was invaluable to the wars for independence from the most powerful order of the time... ;) It's probably because of his spirit and a poem by "Blind Harry" two centuries after his life that made him Scotland's most respected warrior. Then came Mel Gibson.

7.5 Bernard Madoff - businessman/merchant/banker/trader

This is the guy I want handling my teams finances.

Madoff started "as a penny stock trader with $5,000 that Madoff earned from working as a lifeguard and sprinkler installer". He successfully turned that $5k into a $65 Billion fortune! Has anyone done more with less?

He had it so he could draft for me since he wakes up a lot earlier...but he drafted what he wanted. He's a chronic jokester though, should have realized he couldn't cleanly carry it out.
