18.10 Thomas Edison - inventor

Thomas Alva Edison (February 11, 1847 – October 18, 1931) was an American inventor and businessman who developed many devices that greatly influenced life around the world, including the phonograph and the long-lasting, practical electric light bulb. Dubbed "The Wizard of Menlo Park" by a newspaper reporter, he was one of the first inventors to apply the principles of mass production and large teamwork to the process of invention, and therefore is often credited with the creation of the first industrial research laboratory.

Edison is considered one of the most prolific inventors in history, holding 1,093 U.S. patents in his name, as well as many patents in the United Kingdom, France and Germany. He is credited with numerous inventions that contributed to mass communication and, in particular, telecommunications. His advanced work in these fields was an outgrowth of his early career as a telegraph operator. Edison originated the concept and implementation of electric-power generation and distribution to homes, businesses, and factories - a crucial development in the modern industrialized world. His first power plant was on Manhattan Island, New York.

18.8 Most corrupt Democrat of the last twenty years - Wade Rathke...if it doesn't have to be an elected official :dunno:

He knew of his brother's ACORN embezzlement of nearly a million dollars, he was overseeing the group under the guise of representing the poor while their top people made off nicely and their field workers meagerly, decided to overthrow unionizing of their own workers in response to that; there's the apparent voter registration fraud, enjoying suspicious political immunity that makes you wonder what deals have been cut, being instrumental in hypocritical executive lack of transparency that has caused conflicts within, been a founding member of more than one organization there to look out for the little people while profiting handsomely. ...Apparently just epitomizing deceptive players on the left who probably only align themselves with altruistic sounding ideology in order to exploit.

It's been over 24 hours since the last pick. Lackman is busy with his Lost writeups. TAS is sniffing glue. So I'm up.

19.3 Augusto Pinochet - Historical a$$hole/scumbag

According to the 1993 Rettig Report, over 3,200 people were killed, while (according to the 2004 Valech Report) at least 80,000 were incarcerated without trials and 30,000 subjected to torture. Another 200,000 people went into exile, particularly in Argentina and Peru, and applied as political refugees; however, some key individuals were followed in their exile by the DINA secret police, in the framework of Operation Condor which linked South American governments together against political opponents. In 1973, Chile was in shambles - inflation was hundreds of percents, the country had no foreign reserves, and GDP was falling.

So who is up??

I missed a few of days (serious migrane headache caused by -I think- staring at the computer screen too much) and when I got back, this thing was nowhere to be seen. The tumbleweeds kinda felt disenheartened. But it's been really bothering me.

Let's see if we can get some momentum up again. I do want to finish. We're about 3/4 done. Whoever has a pick in round 19 still to go in can make a pick now. We can restart the timer in 12 hours at 20.1 with titansandbucs.

Thanks gocolts.

19.8 Tomas de Torquemada - Historical a$$hole/scumball

Few timeframes in human history capture the imagination (and attempt to physically/mechanically rip it out of the soul) as the Spanish Inquisition.

The ones that go for that long are absolutely awful :( Glad you're feeling better

eta: Excedrin Migraine (or generic versions) actually work I've found, probably 80% of the time. Only stuff out of a multitude of OTC painkillers (though I would like the pain tolerance to toughen up and skip medicine altogether). You still feel like you have one, numbness, fatigue, etc., but it takes the overt pain away. Yesterday the FDA announced it wants stronger warnings put out on the use of acetaminophen though.

Is it just me, or is this draft dead? I think we've all made our point here.

Anyone else in favor of ending this?

Negative. Don't be a bunch of quitter queers.
