surferskin 30 Posted February 8, 2010 Brees went to one of the worst teams in the league and instantly made them a contender. He's got the numbers and now he's got a ring. Brady on the otherhand couldn't even win as many games as Matt Cassel with the same players. No doubt one of the most overrated players in team sports history. The Hood 9 Posted February 8, 2010 Brady and Manning certainly have had better careers so far but I think Brees showed he's the best QB in the league right now. I didn't think he was quite at their level but he sure is. Didn't realize how fantastic his playoff #'s were as well. 4-2 record, 66.7 comp%, 275 yards per game, 13 Td's to 2 Ints , QB rt - 103.7. surferskin 30 Posted February 8, 2010 Well I don't know about THAT , But everybody else knows it. You hear that? That's sound of the mice turning wheels in heads of pats nation, coming to this realization. They were so obsessed with Manning, that they never saw Brees pass Brady. Cstriker 2 Posted February 8, 2010 IMO its an insult to those playing the position at such high level only to be put them down because of a loss or a losing season. All of these guys have SBs and we all know thats not an easy thing to accomplish. However I am happy Brees is in the consideration now to be one of the best. I am glad I got to see all of these QBs play (in no particular order) Brees Brett Elway Brady Kurt Ben Jamarcus

three out of four 0 Posted February 9, 2010 Manning won, get over it! Quit whining like a little baby. Big words from someone who was crying about how they wished Brady gets hurt again because that would have somehow made up for the fact that Manning choked again? I really don't care one way or the other. Just thought Brees had a great year. I guess I can't complement other teams players without being a baby?

taxicab823 0 Posted February 9, 2010 Brees is good, but he depends on dump offs way to much. in terms of QB play he is just as good as brady, but not at the same level of guys like manning, warner, favre
redtodd 7 Posted February 10, 2010 Brees is good, but he depends on dump offs way to much. in terms of QB play he is just as good as brady, but not at the same level of guys like manning, warner, favre If you watched the game closely, you would have seen that the Colts safeties were playing VERY deep. The Colts defense did their best to take away the long ball (which will lave the shorter routes open). A weaker QB would have tried to go deep with all that defense back there. There are plenty of Colts game where they dump it off too. All teams do it (look at Hightower's receptions earlier this year and ADP had more receptions as well). It really depends on what the defense is giving them (no matter who the QB is).
The Hood 9 Posted February 10, 2010 Brees is good, but he depends on dump offs way to much. in terms of QB play he is just as good as brady, but not at the same level of guys like manning, warner, favre Don't understand how you think that. Favre had as many passes to RB's even this year. And he dumped tons of balls off to Levens/Bennett/Henderson/Green through the years. Warner dumped heavily to Faulk, not as much as while in Ariz but more due to them having fantastic WR's and poor RB's. They've been asked to do more blocking than being an outlet option. Manning throws less but has dumped off plenty over the years, in the early days Edge caught plenty. Once (like Warner) he had 2 stud WR's in Harrison (then Clark) and Wayne his dump offs have declined. But Brees's yards per attempt and/or completion this year were also better than any of the QB's you mentioned so it's not like he doesn't get it down-field when he can. saintssb 0 Posted February 10, 2010 How about the game against New England? That deep ball enugh for you? He had plenty of 15+ yard throws in the final two games in the playoffs. It has more to do with the game plan to reudce turn overs because they are the difference makers against top teams. And they succeeded. Brees did not throw one int in the final 2 games. If they open up the play book he will make every throw there is to make. Only throw i did not see him attempt are the fade routes in the end zone. But i am sure he can do it, if the need arises. taxicab823 0 Posted February 10, 2010 maybe i need to make myself clearer, first i wasn't only talking about the superbowl game, his completetion percentage was so high because of dump off passes and screens. remember the year the bengals lost to the steelers in the playoffs? they led in forced turnovers which led to alot of palmers success. if the saints don't get the turnovers like they did this year they are a 9-7 team, because brees simply can't make those hard throws like the great ones. remember last year? all those numbers but they sucked. manning and warner always had crappy defenses and still led their teams. mzf5c5 0 Posted February 10, 2010 And Brees won the Super Bowl MVP. Super Bowl MVP>Regular Season MVP I don't know if I would go that far. That would be an interesting debate. SB MVP is for one game only, RS MVP is for 16 games. Just because you have a great game, doesn't mean that it was a better honor. Who else would agree or disagree with this statement? I think the implication is SB > Regular season....therefore, SB MVP > RS MVP. I think even Peyton would exchange one or two of his RS MVPs for another ring. You're getting less clear........ The Rams D was 4th in the league when Warner won his Superbowl. 7th when they lost to Pats. While not great during the year the Colts D played fantastic and gave up the least yds and pts for the playoffs when they won their Superbowl. While Manning had 3 Td's to 7 ints. Last year the Saints were 8-8. Cards were 9-7. Brees had as many or more long pass plays as the guys you mention so I'm lost at what the "hard throws" you don't think he can make. Especially when the Colts lost because Manning couldn't complete an "easy" short slant. No QB wins much without help on defense.

While as a unit, his WR's are good, none of them really scare you like the guys I listed. Brees is freaking awesome.

The game against Miami this year was incredible. Brees was down by twenty one just before halftime. He convinces Payton to go for it on fourth down and one. QB sneak, TD!!! They go on to win the game by double digits. He makes everyone on the team better. He had nine games this year where he threw to eight different receivers. It's his kind of leadership that makes his greatness more than the numbers. Colston, Meachum, Henderson, and Moore may not scare you, but knowing Brees will find them does. When you think of the great QB leaders in history, Brees will one day be mentioned in the same breath as Montana, Elway, Marino, Brady, Favre, and Manning. BunnysBastatrds 2,436 Posted February 10, 2010 You wanna know how cool Brees is? He went to a local bar after the Super Bowl parade last night (48 hours after winning the SB) to have a few drinks and share the excitement with the fans. He was pouring champagne behind the bar and someone asked if he would do his pre-game chant. No entourage, no security, just him. Brees is awesome!
redtodd 7 Posted February 10, 2010 WHAT?????????????????? Brees is surrounded by a huge supporting cast of very good players. Let me put it to you this way: What two receivers would you want from the Saints if you were to trade Wayne and Clark to them? What about Fitz and Boldin for two Saint receivers? Or Holt and Bruce (in their prime). The Saints don't have dogs, they are good receivers but they don't have a #1 or #2 that strikes fear in you like the Receiver combos I have listed. I would even argue that they have a bunch of guys that are like Garcon and Breaston.
