Chester Taylor

Would he make an impact if the Chargers sign him to a one year deal if the Vikings release him?

He's a free agent, so he doesn't need to be released.

My bad. But if he doesn't resign, then what is his upside. I see a good fit in SD.

Except for 1 year he's been a backup. A backup for 2 workhorse rb's, so I think he still has a lot of "tread on the tires", think T. Jones type tread. He may be able to string together a couple of decent seasons in the right situation. I figure 1000-1200yds, 8-11tds total, 25-40 rec. if he is rb1 in a non rbbc situation.

yep hed be a good fit in SD, 10-15 carries and a few receptions a game. Goalline duties that got LT 10+ tds

even though hes 30+ he hasnt been run down much

Call me crazy - but I just don't see SD being a great fit for him...Chester is great catching the ball out of the backfield, and except for one year, has been a change-of-pace, 3rd down back. Sounds like someone by the name of Darren Sproles. I know they both have different styles, but they both seem to play in the same type of situations/passing downs.

I guess I could see him going to SD, but at this point in his career, I don't think he'd be a work-horse back. He also wouldn't catch many passes (assuming Sproles is still around), and I'm not sure he's a great goal-line RB.

the only question, in my opinion, is if he can STILL be a feature back.

in 2006 he started 15 games and rushed for 1200 yards and 6 td's with 4.0 ypc.

Then the Vikings drafted ADP. not much u can do.

Im honestly surprised we havn't heard more out of Minny the last 3 years regarding Taylor wanting to go somewhere he can start. Maybe he was simply content being the RB2 on a contender.

At times Chester was a more effective runner than AD last year. No joke.

I think he'd be a great fit in SD: the Chargers are a win now team, and I think Chester has another year or two of high productivity. He excels in all facets of the game....short yardage, pass catching, blitz pickup. He has good speed, good vision, knows how to take "good" hits. I'd hate to see CT leave, but if he lands on a decent offense, there's no reason not to expect 1500 total yards and 8-10 total TDs. In SD, I'd have no problem taking him late second early third....and would much rather have Chester than any NFC East/AFC East RB.

I won't be shocked if the Eagles and Vikes end up swapping RBs, with Westbrook in Minnesota and Taylor in Philadelphia.

I see a lot of the former Jags RB James Stewart in this scenario. He always had to play second fiddle to someone and then finally got his release to a team that needed a stopgap starting RB for a couple of years. That team of course was the Lions.

The Lions can't afford to burn an early pick on a RB this year and I think this would benefit both. Chester is from the Detroit area and I could easily see this play out to finish his career. Kevin Smith just isn't an every down player in this league IMO and would benefit greatly from a RBBC approach if he even comes back healthy enough to do so.

Blitz pick-up is the key and why a legit superbowl team like SD should/will take a shot with Chester.... they'll no doubt draft a young RB to groom, but Chester would be a GREAT fit here... no way they'll turn to a raw young RB to take on the responsibilities of a team like this.... I agree with ya

With Vikings running back Chester Taylor set to hit the free-agent market at 11:01 p.m. Thursday, it appears at least one NFC North team (and maybe more) could be in the market for his services.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the Bears are believed to be interested in Taylor and that he could compete with Matt Forte for the starting job. Others teams tossed around as possibilities at the NFL Scouting Combine were Detroit, Philadelphia, San Diego and Seattle.

Taylor, 30, is getting up in years for an NFL running back, but the fact he has been a backup for much of his career means he doesn't have the wear and tear on his body of most players his age. This makes it an interesting situation for Taylor, who had only 94 rushing attempts this past season.

The Vikings would like to have Taylor back but he would return as a third-down specialist, a role he has played in recent seasons behind Adrian Peterson. There is a good chance that a team would be willing to give Taylor more money than the Vikings are willing to offer because his playing time in a place such as Chicago or San Diego would be greater than it would be in Minnesota.
