Far and away the best clay player ever.  And he's going to get so many on that surface that he may just surpass Federer.  Federer is still the best ever, all around. But the clay ones count too, so Nedal may just end up on top.

Best on clay of all time. You have a net worth of a couple hundred million for specializing on the clay court, not a bad life decision.

A reason why Feds is overrated in thr Tiger Feds thread.

2 other guys basically matched his major total in and just after his run.

Like Ive said, in tennis is is much easier for the best to win.

Feds is great obviously.  But all ive heard is just how crazy his run was.  How cam it be that crazy when 2 others basically matched him?

Just because 2 guys are great at the same time, it doesn't diminish one of them to being "just really good". Federer is an all time great. he has like 20 grand slam victories. I didn't look it up but the 10 or so he lost are probably to Nadal on clay in the finals. How many majors has Woods won? 15? Seems Federer had greater competition than Woods.

Didnt say he wasnt an all time great tennis player.  Hes the best tennis player.

But when 2 others do similar things it shows that it is easier for the top players to win.  The cream rises to the top much easier in that format.

Feds has a losing record to both Nadal and joke.

I don't think we should count the surface against Nadal...we don't against Tiger and he's won all of his on the same surface.

Does he have a losing record to Nedal if you take away the matches on clay?

I'm not holding it against him. His dominance on clay is one of the most impressive feats in all of sports.  I think he's a top 5 all-time player.

In majors, Federer has won a record eight Wimbledon titles, six Australian Open titles, five US Open titles (all consecutive, a record), and one French Open title. He is one of eight men to have achieved a Career Grand Slam.

Dude is still competing at the top level in a sport that often times burns players out in relatively short periods of time. I think his first singles grand slam was in 2003. 16 years at the highest level in tennis is a very different than 15 or so years playing a game where John Daly could win tournaments while smoking Marlborough Reds.

With that many years under his belt, off course he is going to get beat from time to time. Even the Patriots lose ever other year.

Hes great.  But ive always heard tennis is a youngans game.  Tell that to Nadal and Serena.  Old players are winning these days.

Im just saying he has peers.  Tiger didnt.

Tennis has always been dominated my 1 or 2 players each era.  There isnt parity in tennis.  Format doesnt allow it.

How many titles Serena have?

Not saying one way or the other, mostly bcoz it doesn't matter to me...... But these are some interesting stats. (from Wiki)

"They have played each other 39 times. Their most recent encounter was in the semifinal of the 2019 French Open. Nadal leads the head to head 24–15. Nadal leads 14–10 in finals. Of these matches, 13 have been in Grand Slams with Nadal leading 10–3.[18][19] Nadal leads 6–0 at the French Open and 3–1 at the Australian Open, while Federer leads 2–1 at Wimbledon. The two have yet to meet in the US Open."

"Of their 39 matches, 20 have been on hard court (14 of them in outdoor hard court and 6 on indoor hard court), 16 have been on clay, and 3 have been on grass. Nadal leads both on clay (14–2) and outdoor hard court (8–6), while Federer has the edge on indoor hard court (5–1) and grass (2–1)."

Woods had a crazy 5-6 years where he won 10 of his 15 championships. That sets him apart. Not the rest of his career. The rest of his career, He's Mickelson. Which aint that bad either. In the majors, for that the same time frame, they are about equal in top 10 finishes. I think it's 41-38 Woods.

But the victories are lopsided in Woods favor. I think their career earnings are about +20 million in favor of Woods as well. But I guess once you hit 90 million, like Mickelson has, why bother counting anymore.

It's hard to even imagine how many slam titles either Federer or Nadal would have if they weren't playing at the same time. Federer could easily have 6 of those French Open titles if he wasn't playing in the era of the best clay court player in tennis history.

Yea he would have more for sure if you take one of the 3 players with a chance to win, out.

Those 3 have won the last 10 majors.  15 out of the last 18.

Just doesnt happen in golf.  The field is much tougher.  The win rate isnt the same for great players.

Serena has like 25.  Feds 20.  Badal 18. Joke 15.  They are like a dime a dozen in tennis.

You're making my point.  Anyone can win in golf, it's not that hard.  it's near impossible to win in Tennis unless you're one of the goats

This. To stay on top in tennis, you have to maintain top physical condition. In golf, you could gain 25 pounds and not lose a stroke off your game.  Your comparing one of the most physically demanding sports there is with something 70 year-olds do at country clubs to relax.

And Woods lost to mostly all of them at one point or another. You generally don't see Federer or Nadal losing to so many different players that come out of the blue.

When did Federer lose to a guy that couldn't run 1/2 a mile without fainting, with 3 career wins

True.

Then again, the French had 128 in the field. The winner faced 7 of them, 5% by the numbers. Woods faced 100% of the field in each of his contests...If he were given 5 cupcakes and then only had to beat 2 top contenders each major, he might have 30 (maybe more) by now.......... Just food for thought.

Anyone can win in golf makes standing out like Tiger did that much harder.  You are actually making my point.

Yeah I honestly dont understand why people neglect math.  Or the format.  Im fine with having a debate about the subject but can we at least use simple math and logic about the 2 formats?
