mobb_deep Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 NOt a bad list. I wouldn't be surprised at all if GB won the SB. I think Miami and Carolina are pretty high and Baltimore is a bit overrated, with that aging D. Everyone always has Carolina being so good going into the season, but it never pans out. Miami has too many question marks at RB and how well Marshall and Henne will work together. I also think San Fran is a better team than Seattle, but that division won't see a team make it past round 1 of the playoff's regardless.
Cstriker Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 If i may turn your attention to peter kings 2009 SB picks and tell you to take his predictions with a couple of punches of salt. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/foot...tml?eref=sihpT1
Chronic Husker Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Seems about right! http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writ....html?eref=sihp This link belongs in the Norse Division thread, don. See guys, Peter King picked us!@#$!$!
shovelheadt Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Normally, it's all the homers at Bengals.com that are up in arms about getting 'disrespected' by the experts, but I'm gonna have to agree with them on this one. I agree they'll have a tough road this year, to have them one step above the Lions is laughable.
Dr Hook Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 I won't argue the GB at 1 pick but I think the Jets should be higher. I think they have made some great moves this year. Anyone in Vegas want to drop a pre season bet for me??? I will put a $100 on the Jets winning it all as long as the odds are there. The preceding message is coming from a Lions fan and should be judged with that in mind. This is in now way to be used as a betting guide and please don't try this at home.
Saint Elistan Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Seahawks--# 11 Yeah...kinda lost all his credibility when he got to that. If not earlier when he put Miami @ #6. Then he went and said that Detroit is better than Tennessee. Tis' a shame...I was digging a boost to my sig's superbowl matchup.
IGotWorms Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 I don't really like his reasoning on a lot of these rankings. He thinks the Ravens are #3 now primarily because of Boldin and Stalworth, even though he admits that Boldin won't stay healthy for the whole year and Stalworth is coming off a manslaughter rap?
Doozer Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 This list is a joke. Ranks GB #1 then goes on to say he doesn't know where the pass rush is going to come from outside of Matthews, and admits that 2 out of their top 3 corners are coming off serious injuries... and 2 out of 3 of them are on the wrong, wrong side of 30. How is that a recipe for the #1 ranking? He goes onto say that Ryan Matthews will have a great year because of their strong o-line... which is entirely false when it comes to run blocking. Peter King needs to stop watching and writing about sports.
surferskin Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 When Pete King is on your side of the argument, you better rethink your position.
redtodd Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 So before I go out this morning, let me embarrass myself by ranking the NFL one through 32. That's not being overly modest -- just realistic. I stink at this. In fact, my recommendation if you really want to find out what's going to happen in the NFL this year is to take a bye on this column. Last year, I really distinguished myself. Picked the Bears to make the Super Bowl. Picked the Saints 24th in the league, which was a point of some contention all season, right up to the moment 30 minutes after the Saints won the Super Bowl and Sean Payton walked up to his podium to meet the press after the game, saw me, and said: "Not bad for number 24.'' Before his rankings, Mr. King shares this bit of info. Nice source to use, Mr. Haas.
BRANDON ROSS Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 I don't really like his reasoning on a lot of these rankings. He thinks the Ravens are #3 now primarily because of Boldin and Stalworth, even though he admits that Boldin won't stay healthy for the whole year and Stalworth is coming off a manslaughter rap? That's too high, but Boldin isn't the reason. Dude, he had his face smashed in last year, and he still came back after a couple games. He'll be fine.
surferskin Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 That's too high, but Boldin isn't the reason. Dude, he had his face smashed in last year, and he still came back after a couple games. He'll be fine. That was two years ago and Boldin does get nicked every year. He's a tough guy but definitely falls in the injury prone category.
buffalobillsffl2003 Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 31. Buffalo. Drafting C.J. Spiller is the one thing a terrible offense did this offseason to get better. Unfortunately, he can't throw the football. Better go get season tickets before they're all taken.
donhaas Posted May 19, 2010 Author Posted May 19, 2010 Before his rankings, Mr. King shares this bit of info. Nice source to use, Mr. Haas. Don't get bitter...... get better!!!!!!!!!! 13! Lots of room for improvement for the Pats!
Mad Brad Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 When Pete King is on your side of the argument, you better rethink your position. This.... Cause we all know Peter King has the pulse of the NFL... MB
PackYourNut Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Don't sleep on Miami... They had both Indy and NO on the ropes last year. And we all know where those teams ended up. They upgraded their two biggest weaknesses at WR with Marshall, and at LB with Dansby. Then they upgraded the pass rush and OLB through the draft. They're a physical team on both side of the ball and should not be overlooked IMO. I think they win the AFC east.

Pats and Jets will get all the pub while Miami sneaks off with the division.
R8RMick Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Peter King is a tool. How does he still have a job in football? We may as well listen to picks by Len Pasta-Belli...
dreadlocks34 Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 In a similiar matter, Don Banks after last preseason was the same way with the Packers basically saying the preseason made him believe they were the best team in football. That worked out well. The Vikings were one play from being in the Super Bowl and King now ranks them behind the Seahawks and a dozen spots behind GB. Good stuff for a usually very accurate predictor (see Carolina two seasons ago as his NFC choice.) At least he pokes fun at himself from time to time at his horrible takes.

You guys had your chance, Favre focked it up when he could have crawled into Longwell's field goal range but threw the bonehead INT. End results: Hypocritical Vikings fans gargling Favre's grey-haired nuts non-stop after saying he sucks for 17 years.... Vikings stuck with Tavaris and no future.... Packers #1 team in the league with the best young player in the game..... Vikings bandwagon empties out; Packers are team to beat for the next decade.... Favre enters the HOF as a Packer.... Vikings fans say he actually does suck but aren't convincing with Favre jizz still on their chins... Rodgers wins MVP; Viking trophy case is still empty Vikings fans act like they never cared anyways.... Attendance at Gay90s skyrockets.... The End

kmbryant09 Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 So let me get this straight...his quotes regarding the Indianapolis Colts: "I see no reason, either in the competitive level of the division or in the Colts' slippage, for Indy to regress" -This is a team that nearly went undefeated, and finished #1 in regular season standings. -Even based on post-season results, they finished #2, ahead of every team in front of them on this list. -They get back one of the best defensive players in Bob Sanders, and a healthy Dwight Freeney, and their #2 WR in Anthony Gonzalez. -Bill Polian is one of the best drafters/talent evaluators in the business, and I assure you this draft class will have a major impact in 2010. Yet he has them ranked #4?? Packers' fans - you should be worried about being #1 in this guy's book.

WhiteWonder Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 As a Pats fan, I am much more afraid of Miami than NYJ. hmm, I would like to ask why? I think the Dolphins will be pretty good this year but it seems to me (and yea im a Jet fan) that the one thing the Pats still have going for them is the passing attack and the Jets secondary is scary. I could easily see the Jets imploding. As a life long fan, I hate alot of the flashy moves that we made for the simple fact that it makes 2010 seem like a do or die season and the reality is, this was a 9-7 team last year that just happened to play very well in the post season. But the truth is this secondary is beastly. Revis, Cromartie and Wilson? Kris Jenkins will be back clogging the middle. And even when you look past the flashy names like Holmes, Tomlinson and Taylor.... the Jets still boast one of the top offensive lines in the game and a young RB who looks like the real deal.

Unless Brady is like the old Brady, (And with a hobeled Welker I don't see it) - I see the Pats 3rd this time around easily. The Jets Def looks amazingly good!!! Secondary will shut down. Sanchez in year #2 and with S. Holmes. Not sure about LT/Green yet, but I'm sure LT has got something left in the tank and with that Oline. Miami will be very good too though. Marshall will be huge. And that QB is very underrated and good.

I think they will implode (although I could be wrong, of course). They've added a lot of malcontents that other teams just didn't want any more. Rex Ryan thinks that he can just put anybody in the locker-room and that the team will stay together through the force of his personality. That's hubris and I think it will bite him in the @ss. Otherwise I agree that their defense (particularly pass defense) is very good. Their offense isn't that great though. Sanchez will have to step up his play bigtime from last year and I don't see that happening.

But its kind of funny because I think Belichick is the same way in the sense that he thinks he can win with anyone (regardless of talent level) because he is so arrogant with his system. Jets have added guys with off field issues but really not anyone who was a locker room malcontent. Which is why it surprises me a little that people are quick to ask what will happen to team chemistry if they lose a few games. Because I don't see how this team or these guys would react any differently than any team that starts to lose after high expectations.

I could see the Niners stepping up and being the class of the West, but people have been talking about that for 4 years now. If San Fran can't distance themselves from the pack it could be really ugly.

FeelingMN Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 IF you are feeling MN...will you still be a Viking fan next year when they are in LA? Lots of folks seem to think a stadium will get pushed through next year. We'll see. But there's a growing sentiment that doesn't want public dollars used to finance the deal.....friggin' teabaggers. And next year's budget deficit will be larger than this year's....plus a new Gov....and new legislators. It'll be pretty tense. But if they do move...sure, I'll follow the LA Vikes. Why not. It's not the end of the world....it really isn't.....probably because I have more things going for me than being a football fan.
