We only had a grand total of two CC/DB Insiders last year, and it isn't even mid-August yet and we're already on issue three for the 2010 season. Well, it is our 10th anniversary of the Compiler and Draft Buddy at FF Today, so we find it a little hard to stop talking about these draft tools.

Hi again. If it is your first time using the Cheatsheet Compiler & Draft Buddy, thanks for trying them out. We appreciate it. If you've been with us for a while, thank you for the continued support.

If you missed Issues 1 or 2 of the CC/DB Insider, where we discuss all things about the Compiler and Draft Buddy (and Projection Pal), you can review them here:

-- New Compiler Version 1.2 --

The latest projection update went up early (and we mean early) this morning, and along with it, a new version of the Cheatsheet Compiler 1.2. There are not major changes to this one, so you can make the call if you want to download it or not. There was one error fix that many wouldn't notice, and one slight alteration to the custom field feature.

Each change is explained in more detail below. Draft Buddy is exactly the same so there is no need to change that from your current version 1.1. The download links for just the Compiler are here:

* Download for Excel 2007/2010

* Download for Older Excel

-- Compiler 1.2 - The Error Fix --

It seems the past stats on the DEF tab in the Compiler were wrong. Well, they were in fact correct, but got aligned with the wrong team names somewhere along the line. If you Compiled Cheatsheets on just the 2009 stats you may surprise yourself the Arizona Cardinals pop out amongst the top defensive units thanks to eight defensive touchdowns. That should be the Saints.

We're uncertain how that happened, but it is now fixed in version 1.2. If you don't put any allocation to the prior year stats, then you may never notice. The projections were always aligned correctly. Thanks to John S. for pointing this out to us.

-- Compiler 1.2 - Custom Fields Change --

The more we use the custom fields, and hear from customers how they are using them, the more we get jazzed about this cool feature. You can basically add anything you want to the Compiler which flows through from the custom fields on the position tabs to the “with notes” cheatsheets.

Well, one slight downfall in the past though was that any non-numerical data input in the custom fields would cause an error in the projected fantasy point calculations. That is now changed, so you can input letters, numbers, symbols or whatever you need to get through your draft. Even, for example, each player's fantasy playoff schedule. Read on…

-- Import Fantasy Playoff Schedule with Projection Pal --

Long-time customer Brett S. asked for this, and we thought, heck of an idea! We've created a special Projection Pal file for you guys and gals to download if you want to import the fantasy playoff schedule for each player into the Compiler. To get started, download this file.

In Pal, go to the QB Raw tab and next to the list of player names identify which weeks you want to import into your Compiler. In the yellow bar above those, use the drop-downs to mark them as Custom 1, Custom 2 and/or Custom 3. You can see the default is “Weeks 15-16” together as Custom 1. Any columns that should not be imported need to be marked as “Other”.

If you do import more than a single Custom field, you need to check them off on the QB Raw tab settings at the top. Then, with the Compiler also open in Excel (version 1.2), hit the Copy to Compiler button.

This data copies to the QB tab in the Compiler, and then you'll see it carry over to the “cs with notes” tab. You may want to shrink the font or widen the columns there to see the data better.

Repeat the same steps for the RB Raw, WR Raw and TE Raw tabs. We typically don't want to go too crazy with strength of schedule analysis when drafting players, but consider it just another piece of information you may find useful on draft day.

-- $5000 Survivor Contest --

Don't forget to join the CC/DB Survivor Contest. It is free for all CC/DB customers, and we're giving away $5,000 to the winner.

You can change your pick anytime up to the contest entry deadline, opening kickoff on Sunday of Week 1 of the NFL season. To join login with your username to access the Compiler, and go to:

* CC/DB $5K Survivor Contest

-- 3 And Out! Returns - CC/DB Customer Discount --

The unique, exciting and frustrating as all heck, greatest fantasy survivor contest every devised is back. That is, 3 And Out! of course, the fantasy survivor game where you pick 1 QB, 1 RB and 1 WR per week to exceed a pre-determined fantasy point total.

If one of your guys doesn't make the cut, then you lose that position in the contest. Once you are out at all three positions, then you are out of the contest. The last person still alive wins. Oh, and last but not least, you cannot pick the same player more than once!

We are giving away $5,000 to the winner. The cost to enter is usually $12.95 but every entry is discounted $2 for CC/DB customers. Plus you can still take advantage of the buy 3, get 1 free entry offer. It is a pretty sweet deal.

That is it for the third issue of the CC/DB Insider. We are now in the thick of things with pre-season games underway and many fantasy drafts just days or weeks away, or even in the books just waiting for the season to start!

MacGregor already drafted Lynell Hamilton twice. Argh! Well, better your 16th rounder than your number one. May all your injuries be to scrub players. Take care, and happy drafting!

Cheers,
