Post the team that won your league(s) last year.

Recommended Posts

Just trying to get a better sense of the makeup of teams that won last year and looking for trends.

Did they all have a top 3 qb?

Top 4 RB?

Did they have 2 top WRs?

Just looking for trends....

I think this is an interesting idea, but recommend that people include number of teams, PPR vs non-PPR, and any differences from the "norm" as far as points (TD throws being 6pts vs 4pts, scoring bonuses, etc.)

i suspect a common theme will be teams that drafted early and got Ray Rice in the 6th or 7th before his hype topped him out in the 3rd/4th round.

also those who drafted or added Sidney Rice, Miles Austin, Steve Smith.

QB-Romo

RB-Sjax

RB-LT

RB/Flex-Maroney

WR-Randy Moss

WR-Wes Welker

TE-Jermichael Finley

:first:

-Drafted Aaron Rodgers but traded Rodgers, Donald Brown, Owen Daniels and Garrard for Tony Romo, Marion Barber and Cooley.

-Traded Mike Bell and Felix Jones for Forte then later flipped Forte for Welker after Forte went off on Browns  and made a bunch of little trades to get everyones backups.

I made one really really stupid trade where i traded Ray Rice for Steve Smith and Jonathan Stewart. Then traded for LT. I really needed a #2 WR when i traded Rice in week 3 :wall:

I picked 9 of 10 and won last year. Ray Rice was the big reason but I totally lucked out in free agency. My core team was:

QB: Brady

RB: Rice, Ronnie Brown, Wells, Jerome Harrison

WR: VJax, Fitzgerald, SRice (free agent), Megatron (free agent after an owner got fed up and cut him)

TE: Vernon Davis (undrafted FA)

K: Gostkowski

D/ST: Eagles

The team I drafted was actually just so-so. Adding Sidney Rice, Vernon Davis and Megatron made this a dominating squad.

I really hope to draft better this year so I won't need free agent miracles.

was able to draft rice (7th) benson (9th) schaub (10th)and celek (16th). those three guys help contribute to early draft picks of AJ, Roddy, Forte, Pierre, and 85.

every year in our league was won on pick ups and late round sleepers who had a great yr (dlo was on the winning team the previous yr)

10 team league, no PPR. 2 RB's, 3 WR/TE. I went most of the year with Matt Ryan and Carson Palmer as my QB's and even started Alex Smith in week 16. So I definitely did not have a top QB. I made up for it though with RB's and receivers.

I won my 14-team/.5 PPR/6 pt TDs league last year, with Steven Jackson, Randy Moss, Matt Schaub, DeSean, Dallas Clark, and Steve Smith NYC. All drafted. I won even though S. Jackson sat in week 16 because I was up against a guy with Manning and Wayne. That team also had Vincent Jackson, Benson, and ADP, but Moss bailed me out.

In my 16-team league, the winner had Miles Austin, Jonathan Stewart, Moss, PT, and a passable QB platoon of Cutler and Garrard. Kind of an odd model for success, though; he scored 6th of 8 playoff teams in Week 14, 3rd of 4 in Week 15, and then won on Moss and Stewart's crazy week 16 performances. Anyway you can get it.

Rodgers - Keeper

Mjd Drafted from the 3rd spot(AP and forte went 1 and 2)

Ksmith/Morris Drafted

Jcharles Picked up and got laughed at for doing so but we all know how that worked out

AJ traded benson and driver to get

S Smith Car Drafted

Gates Drated

Cincy Drafted

Crosby Drafted

The stars aligned for me with a good keeper, good draft, lucky pick up and a few good trades. rolled to a 13-3 record and squeaked out the title game.

Had a Dream Team:

QB Peyton Manning (2nd round)

RB Chris Johnson (Keeper)

RB Ray Rice (4th round)

RB Frank Gore (1st round/pick 7)

WR Donald Driver

TE Dallas Clark (3rd round)

Several Defenses ended season/playoffs with 49ers.

Various Kickers

PPR standard format

12 team league

1 keeper from previous year- must have been drafted 4th round or lower(in 2008 drafted CJ in 11th round)

Having a keeper can really change your draft strategy.

I will obviously be keeping Ray Rice this year.

Count me among the "Rice in the mid rounds"

10-team, PPR, 6pts for ALL TDs, 2RB, 2WR, 1RB/WR Flex

Picking from the 6 spot:

Rd1 - SJax

Rd2 - AJ

Rd3 - Colston

Rd4 - Welker

Rd5 - Schaub

Rd6 - Rice

Rd7 - McCoy

Rd8 - Bradshaw

Rd9 - Driver

I think I had Olsen and Carlson for TEs in there, before picking up Finley for the stretch. I got Charles on his bye week, used him when I had to sit SJax at the end. I played a D/ST rotation, ending with Bengals, Jets and Packers in some fashion or other.

The Schaub/AJ connection worked, obviously, as did lucking out with Rice, and having four of the top-18 WRs to rotate into the starting line-up with flex was nice, they gave me the flexibility to not have to play more than 2 RBs, which was nice when SJax broke.

13. (148) David Garrard

10 Team, PPR. Here is what I drafted:

QB - Romo and Schaub

RB - Forte (pick 5, 1st Round)

RB - Larry Johnson

WR - A Johnson

WR - M Colston

WR - P Crayton

TE - J Whitten

BENCH

WR - M Austin

WR - S Rice

WR - MSW

I name those 3 late round picks for a Reason...I traded them for the following Championship Line-Up:

QB - Schaub

RB - R Williams (trade)

RB - J Charles (FA Pick-up)

WR - A Johnson

WR - Colston

WR - J Gaffney (FA Pick-up)

TE - J Finley (FA Pick-up)

I traded Romo, Austin, Whitten for Mike Turner 3 weeks before his injury...you know, for his best 2 games of the year.

THE POINT HERE: I backed into the playoffs and won the league with FA Pick-ups.

Your draft is only half the battle. Also, I went heavy on WR early with A Johnson and Colston...further proof that it's all about the RB's. Those who go stud WR will ONLY win if they get lucky with sleeper RB's.

Dude, no offense and congrats on your title, but any league where an owner would flat out drop Megatron must be filled with mental midgets.

The guy who won our league (12 team keeper with 3 keepers per team, $200 cap, non-PPR, and lots of roster flexibility, meaning you can start as little as 1 WR, 1 TE and 4 RB if you want, or 1 TE and 5 WR), won it with this roster and these prices.

QB - Aaron Rodgers ($14) - Keeper

RB - Cedric Benson ($2) - Keeper

RB - Matt Forte ($29) - Keeper

WR - Brandon Marshall ($15)

RB - Ray Rice ($25)

WR - Steve Breaston ($11)

TE - Owen Daniels ($15)

K - Stephen Gostkowski ($6)

DEF - Jets Defense ($6)

B - Carson Palmer ($17)

B - Packers Defense ($4)

B - Chris Henry ($9)

B - Josh Morgan ($7)

B - Rob Bironas ($3)

B - Brent Celek ($4)

B - Fred Jackson ($5)

This owner broke every rule in the book. Paid too much for defenses and kickers and left money on the table (he only spent $172!!!). He didn't really have any great free agent pickups either, but Fred Davis and Justin Forsett certainly helped. Sometimes everything just falls into place, you know? Every guy he got somewhat cheap, including his keepers from 2008, had great seasons, save Forte. Rice, Marshall, Rodgers, Benson, even Daniels before he got hurt were all great, and Celek was more than an adequate replacement.

QB: Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger

RB: MJD, Gore, Rice, Barber, Maroney

Finished 10-3 with a Bowl win.

You got Chris Johnson in the 2nd round in a 12 team league? I would love to play in a league where CJ lasts into the mid-teens.

Also, do you guys only play 11 weeks so everyone plays each other one time? What week do you finish the playoffs? 14?

In my 12 team league, we have three divisions. Everyone plays the other 3 teams in their division twice (6 games) and then you play 7 of the remaining 8 teams, finishing in week 13. Yes, you miss out on one team per year, but if you randomize the divisions, that tends to average out over time. It's much better to end in week 16 than week 14, no?

First post :D

Went 12-2. This was only the second time i had ever played FF.

8 team, 1 PPR standard yahoo scoring 1qb/2 rb/3wr/1flex/te/k/def

Draft:

1. (2) Michael Turner

2. (15) Andre Johnson

3. (18) Randy Moss

4. (31) Anquan Boldin

5. (34) Kevin Smith

6. (47) Aaron Rodgers

7. (50) Marshawn Lynch

8. (63) Bernard Berrian

9. (66) LenDale White

10. (79) Percy Harvin

11. (82) Derrick Ward

12. (95) Kevin Walter

13. (98) Ray Rice

14. (111) Visanthe Shiancoe

15. (114) Derrick Mason

16. (127) Matt Hasselbeck

17. (130) San Diego

18. (143) Josh Brown

Made 21 roster moves, second most in the league. A lot of them was just juggling defenses and kickers.

Key FA pickups: Fred Jackson, Steve NYG Smith and Brent Celek. Jackson especially was important as he gave me someone, servicable to use at RB2 when Turner was out.

Also used Jason Snelling, Mario Manningham, Justin Forsett, and Jamaal Charles at various point during the season.

Added Gostkowski at some point, i think maybe his bye week. I remember being shocked he had been cut, and then that he made it through waivers.

Certainly the key to my championship wasnt my drafting skills. I got lucky getting Rodgers in the 6th, and Rayrice in the 13th(!)

Almost the entire middle of my draft (between Rodgers and Rice) was a waste, other than Percy Harvin, who was pretty decent.

But with Turner being hurt, and the lack of quality RBs in my draft, i got pretty good at working the WW and playing matchups. Heck i even won a game during Rodgers BYE week with David Gerrard as my starter!

This was in the WCOFF. We draft after the Thursday night game. Johnson had a subpar game and slipped to me. You play everyone in your league once and then the "playoffs" start to get you into the post season play.

In a typical league I would agree it's much better to end in week 16, but they can't find an equitable set up like that in the high stakes format. Otherwise, some teams get screwed by having to play the better teams more than once.

I won my auction league for one reason and one reason only... Aaron Rodgers went ape-sh*t in Week 15 and scored something like 49 fantasy points. The next week I rode Jonathan Stewart to victory.
