Adam 0 Posted December 21, 2010 A couple of weeks ago Raheem Morris was publicly flogging Blount for his goal-line ineptitude, indicating he might go with other ball carriers in that area. Anybody watched Tampa Bay since then to see if this is actually the case?
shovelheadt 72 Posted December 21, 2010 Not only is he not getting the goal lines, they pulled him on the last drive due to fears about his fumbling.
Matt Mueller 148 Posted December 21, 2010 Both of these may be true...but he's still a top 15 option @ home vs Seattle in a must win. No?

Didn't fumble this past Sunday, and was averaging over 7 yards per carry. And they pulled him for fumbling concerns?

And they pulled him for fumbling concerns? (Rotoworld) Bucs offensive coordinator Greg Olson said LeGarrette Blount didn't see the field during the team's final series in regulation because they were worried about ball security. Analysis: Blount has fumbled just two times this season, losing both of them. One of them came the week prior against the Redskins, though, so that was likely in the back of the coaches' minds. This, along with a lack of involvement on passing downs and occasionally being replaced by Earnest Graham in short-yardage situations, keeps Blount from taking that next step forward, but he's still a sure-fire weekly starter and needs to be in your lineup in Week 16 against Seattle. I'm wondering how much of this is just mind games. Looking at the play-by-play, Blount received 2 of the last 4 RB carries in the game for Tampa Bay. Here's what it looks like: 3:22 - Blount carries for 6 yards 2:37 - Blount carries for 3 yards 2:00 - Penalty on Detroit - 1st down 2:00 - C. Williams carries for 1 yard 1:55 - C. Williams carries for 2 yards 1:50 - J. Freeman carries for 4 yards 1:44 - Barth kicks a field goal To which Detroit responded by kicking a field goal, going to OT, and then getting the ball and driving for the winning field goal. Just judging from that stat line I would argue that if they leave Blount in they probably get a first down and win the game.

I'd like to think the coaching staff knows what they are doing but I'd rather lose a must win game rolling a Blount than smoking a Caddy.
phins2119 0 Posted December 21, 2010 I dont understand why it seems every week it is a hassle for Blount to get more then 15 carries a week. It's a joke to be honest. For starters, Blount didn't play the first few weeks, so thier is no way he can be beat up or mentally tired. Second, enough w/ the pity carries for Caddy--he is done--washed up etc, etc. And last, Morris is a moron. Seriosuly, how the fouck do you lose to the Lions at home??? I have been saying this weeks as a Blount owner; the only way Blount breaks 100 yds and scored a td, if it is from 30 plus yds out. I thought as a HC, his job was to put his best players on the field always. I wonder if Morris knows that yet.

I dont necessarily see it as an indictment of Blount that the coaches would rather have the ball in the veterans hands rather than the rookies late in the game. Also, concerning goalline carries...being a Blount owner i have watched my fair share of Bucs games over the last few weeks and it has been my impression that the Buc offensive line is horrible in short yardage situations. They often get manhandled and no matter who the RB is, are often encountering D linemen in the backfield. I looked it up...so far this season Tampa RBs have scored 9 rushing TDs. Only 3 of them have come from 5 yards or less. By comparison: Oakland: 11 of 15 rush TDs from less than 5 yds NewEngland: 8 of 12 rush TDs from less than 5 yrds KC: 9 of 11 Pitt: 7 of 10 NO: 6 of 8 I guess i could go on and on. I would say that a big part of it is that Blount is a complete non factor in the passing game. Williams has 61 targets this year, Blount has 3.
doggiestyles 1 Posted December 21, 2010 If the Bucs can bolster their offensive line for next year, Blount and the Bucs could be for real! Watch as the offseason progresses. I wouldnt be surprized if Blount ends up in the 5-10 range amongst all rbs next year.

doggiestyles 1 Posted December 21, 2010 He's shown promise but: A. Still isn't a factor in the passing game. B. Tampa has had a very generous schedule this year. In my opinion(which isnt worth much) they have the worst offensive line in football. I feel he would be an absolute beast with an great line. He missed all of the preseason with the Bucs. In his second year he will learn much more about pass blocking. This should result in more plays designed to get him the ball in space. Im looking forward to watching him run over opposing defenses next season. He wont be ranked very high in the draft next year. If Tampa can improve their o-line, he may be a steal. Low Score 0 Posted December 22, 2010 Remember also that the passing game that Caddy helps out with includes pass blocking. It's one of the hardest things for rookies like Blount to pick up. And it's not just hitting hard - it's making the read (and many times, you have to break for the block immediately at the snap to get there) and also knowing when you can release into the flats or through the line. This will come with time for Blount but Caddy gives them more flexibility there even if he isn't near the runner that Blount is.

Exactly, they gave it to Graham near the GL in the last game and he got stuffed as well. It's not Blount, it's the line/blocking. I, too, think they are trying to motivate rather than punish. He'll be in my lineup this week.
gridiron whirlwinds 10 Posted December 22, 2010 The only thing about Blount , is that he is not a good receiver out of the backfield....I have no worries at all about him being able to score from inside the five yard line. The kid is a beast that will only get better. He is the best Tampa has by a larger margin.

I ask because I'll have some keeper questions looming in a few months.

I would definitely make him a keeper......my only concern is he is not a natural catcher of the ball and he is hot headed and may loose his temper at any time........but he has talent, no question about that. Ron Dayne never made the plays that blount has made this year, in his whole career.
