NPNG 4 Posted August 26, 2011 Have my auction this Saturday. We have been auctioning now for 6 or 7 years. Start QB,RB,RB,WR,WR,WR,TE,K,Def. 1/2 ppr, $100 cap. Easy to mock a draft but not so easy for an auction. Let me know what you think. (for comparison purposes, top RBs usually go for $30-35; top QBs 20-25; top WRs 20-25). QB - M. Ryan (Atl) $4 QB - R. Fitzpatrick (Buf) $1 RB - L. McCoy (Phi) $23 RB - M. Ingram (NO) $13 RB - K. Moreno (Den) $9 RB - R. Jennings (Jck) $1 WR - V. Jackson (SD) $18 WR - M. Williams (TB) $13 WR - M. Manningham (NYG) $8 WR - S. Moss (Was) $4 WR - J. Jones (GB) $1 WR - N. Burleson (Det) $1 TE - G. Olson (Car) $1 TE - J. Cook (Ten) $1 PK - M. Bryant (Atl) $1 Def - Detroit $
Fantasy Noob 10 Posted August 26, 2011 Having fellow drafters that are experienced in auction helps to hold the price down to a great degree. I like budgeting based on position, and ranking players in tiers. You should pay attention to who is doing the studs and scrubs versus who is doing value as well. It sounds like with that much history you should have a good idea of other drafters trends. I would say you want to do what everyone else is not doing, if they all go Studs and Scrubs you go value and vice versa. The worst case scenario would be if you go value and more than half the other drafters go value too, you could end up in bidding wars over sleeper, lower tier guys. Good luck! Bryant (Atl) $1 Def - Detroit $1 First off, the # of teams in the league is critically important. If that's a 10 teamer, that's a middle of the pack team. If it's a 12 teamer, it's solid. If it's a 14 teamer, I don't think you're actually able to get most of those players at those prices and you'll have to rely on bargain hunting. A few more thoughts - I wouldn't count on Olsen and Cook for $1 if you're in a league with savvy guys. Also, I don't think there's any way you get Matt Ryan for $4 (think more like $6 or 7). I'd also expect someone to put a $2 bid on Rashad Jennings, especially the MJD owner. I also think there's a chance Santana Moss goes for a little more than $4. Obviously, you might be able to pick up a dollar here or there on other players. Also, whatever you do, do not put LeSean McCoy up for auction early. It's a surefire way to have him go for the high 20s or 30. Human psychology is a funny thing. Also, if top WRs really go for what you say, I'd consider finding a way to make a run at Calvin Johnson for $20 (instead of Mike Williams).

This was the SOFA Auction League draft - a fairly well-known experts league with 12 of the top sites competing. http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/tools/draftrecap?leagueId=458329 This was a full-point PPR draft with one flex spot. The Football Guru 222 Posted August 26, 2011 I'm afraid of your RBs after McCoy and don't think you get Ryan that cheaply. Mine? Remember, this is a $200 cap league. I'd argue that only FantasyFootball.com has a better set of RBs and he has very little at WR or TE. McCoy, Forte and Hillis are each 50-catch (or more) backs and only Forte figures to lose any kind of real work - and that's only as long as Barber stays healthy. And Ryan at $10...I was expecting to pay as much as $15. Let's remember that he was a 3,700-yard, 28-TD quarterback last year without Julio Jones and a healthy Harry Douglas. I don't know why he can't go for 4,000 and 30 this season.
Laurence Maroney's Nuts 2 Posted August 26, 2011 If I can nab Matt Ryan for 8$ (scaled to my $200 league cap) in my auction draft tomorrow, I'll be  Looking to grab Big Ben or Ryan myself...

That was my plan going in to this auction and my plan for all my snake drafts next week - Big Ben or Ryan. (Stafford if both players don't make it to my sixth-round pick, but ideally as a QB2 a couple of rounds later.) I'm with you, though, $8 would be a steal for either QB. Quick question, Maroney...is your auction draft an online money league? I want to find a decent website that I can do some money league auction drafting. Dude, we have the same plan - I want Stafford as a high upside QB2 behind them -- Hoping to nab Big Ben/Ryan + Stafford for ~60% of what people are gonna pay for Brees/Brady/Rodgers... My auction is live-in person, so can't help you on that website search, unfortunately.

My auction is live-in person, so can't help you on that website search, unfortunately. Get outta my head I think one bit of auction advice I can provide is to find that Ryan/Big Ben type of player at each position, particularly at QB and TE (in other words, the player who is the best bet from the non-elite to ascend to the elite category) so you can land one more RB2 or RB3. I understand that isn't exactly a newsflash for veteran owners, just reinforcing it for the newbies...Considering I finished second in this league with a draft that featured Steven Jackson, MJD, Roddy White and Boldin as my key pieces last year, I'm psyched to have four WRs and three RBs that could all end up in the top 20-25 at their positions this time around. Getting Ryan and Fitz for a combined $12 and three pretty fair TEs (two healthy ones anyway) for a combined $6 allowed me to grab Collie as my WR4 essentially, so if he gives me 4-5 games - so be it. If he gives me 15, I should have two top 10 WRs. No worries on the website search, I may look into next year if I really hit the jackpot with my teams this year. Felt really good about Stafford and my entire receiving unit. Left $3 on the table. Would have felt real good about my team if I could've gotten a 3rd RB who was a starter. Came close on Hightower and Green-Ellis.
