MNF Gets Political

Recommended Posts

Well, maybe, except for the part where he called Obama "THE ENEMY!" :dunno:

He's perfectly entitled to his opinion, but ESPN/Disney is also perfectly entitled to decide whether they want him front and center pitching one of their major products.

Is that anything like when Obama calls the Republican party the enemy?

Whoa! Do we get to fire Obama now?

Yes, I would think it's a lot like that. Clearly it wasn't just an example of polar opposites, which is the suggestion I was replying to.

Feel free to fire Obama, if you have the votes.

It's time for a change anyway. Maybe Hank the III should get a shot at the theme song. :music_guitarred:

"So I'm here to put the balls back in football and take the ga out of the game..." :music_guitarred:

Some dood on the mange bored just told me I have a lot of pent up anger and that maybe I should find a good Christian Church to go to.

Your angeris pretty low on the list of why you should seek the counsel of the lord, sweetie. ;)

The more important question is "who invited Hank Williams to give his opinion on anything?"

Ummmm, FOX News of course.

Simple. Anything MNF is a bigger story than anything relating to Hitler or Obama.

Well, barring last night's matchup, MNF is certainly more interesting than anything in politics lately.

In an appearance on Fox News' "Fox and Friends" Monday morning, Williams referred to a June golf game with Obama and House Speaker John Boehner on the same team, against Vice President Joe Biden and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, as "one of the biggest political mistakes ever."

Hyperbole much, there, Hank?

I would consider other things, like maybe the Bay of Pigs, Watergate, stuff like that, to be a little bit more serious than a couple of guys playing golf together.

I figured it out, finally, and I'm just going to start calling RP Hank or Junior from now on.

Anything to label a large swath of people by some tiny extreme fringe element... All in the hopes that your failed ideology might be given more creedance...

Its pretty pathetic.

Obama playing golf with John Boehner was like Hitler playing golf with Netanyahu.

more like booker t. washington playing golf with stalin (except the white guy is the black guy and vice versa)

I honestly don't get the uproar. Isn't he really just saying that they are polar opposites?

This. :dunno:

He made an analogy to say they (Boener/Obama) were polar opposites. Why are all the headlines saying Hank used a slur against Obama? When I read the headline I thought Hank dropped the N word or something. Then I read the comment where it was a simple analogy. Talk about over selling a story.

Be careful people. If it's pouring outside don't say it's "raining cats and dogs". PETA may call your company and then your company (because they have no backbone and wilt at anything due to pressure) will have to repremand you for slurring against animals.

We live in the United States of the Offended. Everybody looks for something to be offended about. Entities like ESPN are so scared of public perception due to the pussification of America that they cave to any and everything non-PC.

If by a large swath of people you mean Hank Williams Jr and Recliner pilot, you're right.

I always considered a swath to be more than two.

There is no uproar. Fox gave him an opportunity to make an ass out of himself, he did, and his employer didn't care for it and let him go or suspended him or whatever they did.

There are no protests, nobody's picketing ESPN demanding his ouster. You guys are the only ones tripping about the whole thing.

It was on the home page of every major news website I've went on yesterday and this morning (not sure if they are still up). MSN, Yahoo, CNN, etc.

Yahoo's headline was: "Hank Williams Jr. uses slur against Obama!"

The whole thing is stupid. The man made an analogy and the media sensationalized to where ESPN (no backbone) actually reacted to the sensationalized story. Dumb all the way around.

Of course, calling the golf game being "the worst political mistake ever!" isn't sensational at all.

Well it was worse than Neville Chamberlain and the Munich Agreement, but not as bad as Lincoln's decision to go the theatre.

I focking love you assh0les. I just read three pages of this and it has me

Just my $.02, what Hank said is a bad analogy, but it's not racist, not a slur and ESPN is completely overreacting. However, it's not a free speech issue. We have a right to free speech, but it doesn't protect us from consequences.

I was expecting complete and utter devastation with you coming at me with "Hank" or .....Brrrrrrrrrrrr..........heaven forbid "Jr".

what a relief! :overhead:

I understand that you can't threaten people, least of all the president, and other such potentially dangerous uses of speech, without consequences. But this comment seems rather benign to have caused such a reaction. Would anyone even have heard what Hank said if ESPN hadn't overreacted to it? I wouldn't have. Probly not many would have, and of those who did, so few would care as to be negligible. ESPN turned it into an attention-getter, for no particular reason, and I agree with you that to screw with a football tradition for political reasons is just asinine.

Clearly, I'm no particular fan of Hank's either, but I'm just sayin'...

Go back to the mange bored elf!

Anyway, it seems like they've been looking to dump hank for a while. Don't I remember horrible Brittney Spears and Joan Jett versions of the MNF song at some point?

And like I tell my students... the first amendment only applies to government action. If you exercise your right to free speech by telling your boss to eff himself, he will exercise his by saying "you're fired."

I teach paralegal courses, writing, political science, and history, and occasionally business law courses too.

I keep my politics out of it. Its about the information, and their opinion, I just facilitate discussion. More often than not, I end up playing the "right winger" to balance out discussion.

And I teach at a college.

I just found out why Hank Williams Jr. is prone to doing dumb stuff like comparing the President to Hitler and choking waitresses that refuse to kiss him. And it's not the reason you might expect, like he's a dumbass Teabagger or an idiot redneck.

He's a Steeler fan.

Which, naturally, qualifies him for retard status.

I swear to God this is like the sampler platter for FFT. You have a tiny hint of football-related content, the rest is politics, name calling, attacks, Phillybear, KSB blaming the media, and the night posters. If Giants Fan tells a story, someone asks can size and this thread turns into the posting of random youtube links, we'll have it covered.

I agree. This thread was like the handbook of everything that is the Geek Club. I officially nominate it for Thread of the Year. Although it was started by Axe Elf and his head may actually explode from recognition like that.

But you're right. We need GFIAFP in here to seal the deal.
