Risky vs Safe

Recommended Posts

Do you guys play it safe or risky in the playoffs?

Example: I have Gates and Gonzales, Gates has been a slightly inconsistant 10-25 and Gonzo has been steady 15-20 (PPR).

I also have R. White going... which has helped alot this year because at the very least White or Gonzo gets me solid numbers (and sometimes both). I also have watched teams make an effort to shut down Gates, and when they do San Diego struggles (I assume Baltimore has seen this as well). I have a 15 point lead going into the second week of the first round.

Do you play it safe here? Or, do you go for it?

I know this seems like a tiny decision but this week is going to be close and I believe it is going to come down to this type of decision.

i say swing for the fences. I waffled last week between Witten and Antonio Brown at my flex spot. 25 points left on my bench later I'm pissed that I chose to be "safe" with Witten. It didn't cost me that time, but I'll remember it going forward. Go with your gut.

I think a lot has to do with your opponent. If you're the heavy favorite, you probably have other guys that are going to blow up (in a good way!). I'd go with just getting some steady points to add to your total. If you're the underdog, maybe risk it with a guy who's more boom or bust.

I try to mix a few safe calls with a couple "risky" ones.. guess it depends on if you think you can win with a bunch of 15 points guys or if u are going to need a blow up type game..

This is my strategy as well. If your loaded your probably gonna win unless injury or just the rare bad day so no need. But if your loaded you dont have to make those decisions i guess.

I have a damn good team but look at this team im playing this week. He is loaded atleast Andre Johnson is still hurt for him.

Player Opp.	Avg	Proj
Rodgers, Aaron QB GB @KC	33.5	28.2
Foster, Arian RB HOU CAR	19.5	23.4
McCoy, LeSean RB PHI	NYJ	19.6	14.7
Spiller, C.J. RB BUF MIA	4.2	9.2
Green, A.J. WR CIN	@STL	11.4	11.3
Marshall, B WR MIA @BUF	9.4	9.7
Gronkowski, Rob TE NE @DEN	16.1	15.8
Kasay, John K NO	@MIN	10.1	9.6
Bears DST SEA	15.5	18.8

I need a #2 RB with Forte down and have been trying to find someone to swing for the fences with and i cant. MOTHER %#$#@%$

I am not usually the smarta$$ who says is that a 4 team league but please explain how you could get Rodgers, Foster and McCoy on the same team? I can definitely see 2 of them, but 3? Is it a 2 person keeper or something?

Has to be a keeper. McCoy and especially Foster could have been gotten very last year.

Your also facing Gronk this week! Hate to say it, but you might as well go with any high risk/reward player you can. Your last name bettter be Tebow, because nothing short of divine intervention will save you now. Good Luck!

Who do you have for RB options currently?

Depends on what you need. For example, if you have Roddy White 10/135 2 tds, you might prefer the safer play since he already went off for you ...

Well I played it safe and went with Gonzales beside Roddy. In hind sight I should have went with Gates.

I am happy with the outcome because the Roddy/Gonzo combo got me 38 points in PPR. One of Roddy's touchdowns was meant for Gonzo, he admitted to stealing it in the postgame.

I am playing Rivers instead of Ben cause i play it safe.

Then i could start the high risk high reward K Smith , but i would have to bench either Beanie vs CLE or Felix vs Tbay, i am playing it safe here .

never bench your studs

+1 usually, they got you this far. While you may be enticed by the "boom," beware the "bust." HTH.

I dont see this as "never bench your studs". The Gonzo and Gates combo got me this far. Gonzo is in third place for TE's behind Gronk & Graham. He is having a great year. In hind sight I would sit him, but ultimately I think I made the right decision (w/o a time machine).

If I lose because of playing Gonzo over Gates I might second guess my reasoning

I think it just always depends on your specific situation. IMO, the more risks you take the better chance exists for getting those really subpar performances. But sometimes it pays off.

I am in a bad situation so far for my playoff game. I am playing a team that just barely made it into the playoffs and the team is playing hot for the past few weeks. And because of the early games they have a huge lead with Romo and White. The players they have left are not that great but if any of them have a good to great performance then I think I am definitely done. I have only played Witten and he did ok for PPR. At least they also played Gonzo and MJD. MJD did ok for PPR but without scoring any TDs his total was just average. But anyway, back on topic, because of this situation I decided to not play LRob yesterday and use Demariyus Thomas along with Tebow today. I felt using LRob was playing it safe because in the matchup with the Bucs I thought Romo had the chance to spread it around to all the WRs (which he did) and with Thomas against NE, Tebow has the chance to throw for some yardage and also rush well too. So far so good. LRob scored but in PPR he only had about 11 points. Thomas can easily top that, and if not then the diff in points should not be as much. In order to catch up with Romo and White I need better performances than what LRob had.

FF is part skill and luck. Usually luck plays a bigger role.
